I didn't say that I was.

One could argue that 3 of the 4 is better compared to 1 of the 4 though.

yeah...but with the voice of Martin? No No No No shock.gif

QUOTE(Pokey @ May 7 2010, 10:09 am) *

It took me awhile to process what you meant by that. But all I'm saying is that it's silly to only want to go to a gig if you can be promised to hear all the hits.
For example, I'm going to see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in July ... I wouldn't say I'm a super fan, but I like what I have heard so far. My knowledge of them is limited, there are 4-5 songs of theirs I really really love, but I'm not going to be put off by the fact that they may not play those songs. They might play songs I don't know and I might really dig them and get into it. Nick seems to act like people need to be assured that they can sing along to all the songs on the night to be able to go and have a good time .. I just think that is an incredibly close minded view and attitude towards music.

When Live hit Starland in 2009, the crowd was dead for the first half of the show, which contained: Hold Me Up, Gas Hed, Top among other obscure songs that hardcores have been dying to hear. Once Live played their hits the second half of the show, the entire crowd ate it up.

The hits are what gives the show energy. The more energy the crowd has, the better the band usually performs.

The people who will buy Alive or TGF's album will be miniscule to the people who already are very familar with the hits of Live and Candlebox. Not playing the hits will suck the energy out of a concert(ask the Counting Crows).

Obviously I'm not gonna win this one, so you just keep on listening to the same 17 songs over and over if that's what makes you happy.

The reason the crowd was dead for the good songs at those shows is because it was 2009 and the only fans left were Nick and 1,000 50 year old women who don't know jack shit about LIVE and how great they used to be.

I think that's mostly because their longtime, hardcore fanbase had already stopped coming to shows, Nick. That leaves the people who are there because they know Live sang Lightning Crashes and they had nothing better to do that night. I noticed the same thing at the Meadowbrook show in June 2009. Most people just stood there except during, IA, STD, LC, WD, etc..

The only reason I went to that show was because I had heard they pulled out Gas Hed and Hold me Up. In retrospect I am glad I got to see them one more time. But my days of seeing every show I could had been over for a while.

Now it's all about Widespread Motherfucking Panic!!! rockin.gif

Sorry to single this out, but it's making me all cross-eyed.

If a band has a well written song and is into what they are playing the crowd will feel that energy, hardcore or not. No one knew who the hell Live were back in the early nineties but people paid attention when they got on stage because they played their asses off.

Though, to be perfectly fair, more people have jammed a stick up their ass, or jammed the one they have farther in it seems these past years. At many of the recent concerts I've attended people have been real uptight, even in or near mosh areas. Booze helps alleviate that problem but I still wonder why people put down the cash for a concert ticket and then act like they're at a freaking board meeting.

Regardless, the hits aren't the be-all, end-all for concert energy. The band, especially the lead singer, can keep the crowd pumped and into the music even on obscure songs.

Not only is this song incredibly predictable, boring and lame...Ed also looks like a washed up has-been. What's with all the "Wooh!"s he does during these songs? Nervous tic or something? Maybe he's realizing what a massive failure this is going to be?

QUOTE(Nobody Knows @ May 7 2010, 5:03 am) *

Yes, the lead singer can make a huge difference, but also vice versa is true.
A lead singer is nothing without his band... most of the time when a former lead singer starts an own solo career it fails miserably.

Please tell that to Mike Doughty, formerly the lead vocalist of Soul Coughing. He sells a lot less records and makes a lot less money than he did with SC, but he's happier. That should be all that matters.

Also, Mike's solo renditions and renditions of SC songs with his newer band are quite good.

Nick, see my sig file with the concerts.................This is why the later crowds cheered for the newer shit. We're made our voice clear.

We all said enough is enough. This is why the rest of the guys had ammunition and the balls to leave.

Headlining big sheds / arenas to smaller clubs sometimes not the headline. We can argue forever. Enjoy Ed's music. I respect that you do and I'll leave it at that.

Go see my post on the Like I Do Interview and if you hear the fan say to Ed, "I am not a fan of the band, but if all the songs are like that one, I'd buy the record". This tells you what could of been if we had more colalboration and less one voice.

Yea lets all give credit to that random dudes comment and also act like we know how the song was made.

Chad Chad and Pat are innovative, sound musicians...they come up with great parts.

But Ed wrote most of Live's songs. I doubt more "collaboration" with Chad Chad and Pat would have produced many more songs as good as like I do. Chad Chad and Pat will compliment anyone skilled enough to wield the trio.

Ed would have a hard time with his fading voice and new direction to keep Live rocking. Kevin has a good voice (half the time), and he has heart, but I don't think he has the songwriting talent or the verve to bring out the best of Chad Chad and Pat. He doesn't have much originality in his possession, and he is not convincing to me. He's alright filler. A good work singer.

I think you will see that your last paragraph will be proven false. His solo album shows tremendous range. Also, let me offer this gem from their last CBox album:
