Are you serious? I like Live, and probably always will, but putting them on the same level as any one of those artists is quite simply ABSURD. You've listed a bunch of musicians who, in some way or another, have made an imprint on the face of the very meaning of music. I'm sorry - Live is a good band, but their level of respect and influence within the industry are absolutely nothing compared to those artists listed above. Talk about crazed fanaticism.

I already admitted that I changed my mind. What more do you need? I wasn't wrong for having my own opinions, but now I have heard different opinions and thought about it some more. So, I changed my mind. That in itself implies that I'm ok with being wrong.

I admit to being wrong all the time. I just forgot that everything has to be spelled out to you. You want me to say "you're right and I'm wrong" so you can feel superior or whatever. Well, I've said all I need to say, and that's it.

I have to agree here. I love Live as well. They're definitely in my top 3. But, they're definitely not a legend or anything. Wish they were!

I bring in a (i've got to admit old) lyric:

People: what I want to say with bringing this line on is this.
We maybe just THINK too much when we listen to Live, and maybe forget to FEEL when we listen to it I guess.
How the song is made technically does not matter to me too much although I had music lessons in the past and I know a few things on music theory.
What I feel about it is more important to me.

About the lyrics: you can still tell from it how important love is and how bad hate and war are (if you did not realize that already) but Ed just tells it in a way which is more quiet and calm and with less difficult words.
He is not angry anymore, but if you listen to "Home" then you find out that it still bothers him that there is war, you will hear the tears in his voice, he is still sad about it.
That's what I hear in it.

The problem is that the emotion of the music is not random. It is caused by the objective manner in which the song is written. And while the current boring, thoughtless music that they're writing is still going to stir up emotions in some of the more shallow music listeners, it is not written well, and because it will not written well, it will not be as effective as it could be.

Hell, fucking Britney (however you spell it) Spears has some hard core fans, but that doesn't mean she's making quality music.

And so again: you can like it all you want, but that doesn't mean it's well composed. And the fact that it's not well composed is what causes us (both intellectually and emotionally) to dislike it.

Live spent 3 weeks RECORDING the album. Not creating or writing the album. Secondly LIVE didn't delay the album 8 months, Epic did. I think you're being disloyal to the facts.

I don't want Live to stop making music or break up. They are one of the very few bands that I feel give me my money's worth in concert. They are the only band that I can't take a bathroom break during the show, for fear of missing one of my favorites. I like all of their CD's and hope to get another at some point. This message board has been overrun with negativity for way too long.

The band just needs a break, they've been touring non-stop for over a year. Ticket sales will dwindle without radio airplay and if you play the same areas more than once per year. Live need to rest up and refocus their energy to work on a new album in 1-2 years. Most importantly, they need to distance themselves from the band killer known as Epic(Fuel, Juliana Theory anyone?).

I apologize for posting the wrong facts, but it doesn't really matter whether Epic or Live delayed the album 8 months. That's not the point I was trying to make. There is always something to improve, and the fact that Live didn't change one song in eight months is proof that they are lazy or don't care about their album. O right, I forgot! They added strings to Mystery, which made the song even worse than the original.
I agree that the band needs to take a break, but not because they have been touring for too long. I mean, being a successful rock band is one of the best jobs out there. It's not like singing in front of fans that love your music is an arduous job. Sure, traveling to different venues around the world can be frustrating (not that I would know), but they are doing something they love. They should take a break to focus their energies on a better album and 1-2 years is not a long enough break.

I've seen live 13 times. I love their music, except for this latest effort, which I think stinks.

I found Birds of Pray to be a bit weak.

But... it's not up to us for them to quit. I'll continue to listen to the older albums and check out their next piece of work, if and when it comes to see if I like it.

Bands change, sometimes you like that change, sometimes you don't.

Otherwise everybody would like Live and even like the same songs best!
But because music is random everybody has a different taste.
Why else do you think that this subject causes so much emotional discussion?

For you it's maybe the louder, the darker, the more angry the more complicated written the better!
But for me I've got more with happiness and sadness and love and sometimes I prefer loud and sometimes quiet and sometimes I like lyrics which are direct and sometimes lyrics which aren't.
And I can appreciate as well a song which is performed with a whole band or even an orchestra as a song which is performed with only a piano or one guitar and as long the music and lyrics touch me.

According to her fans, she does.
For some reason they feel touched by her music but I can't stand it.

Let me tell you a story to explain you my point of view:

Last year I was with a whole group on holiday and there was always music around, every kind of music was played as well music I love as music I hate.
One evening they started to play a song by a Dutch singer whoose music and voice I absolutely can't stand.
But the man I was talking with that moment started to cry.
I asked him what was up and he told me that he always enjoyed the songs of that singer and that he had always listened to and sungen along with it together with his best friend.
But his best friend had died.
But it was as if the music gave him a bit his friend back during a song of that singer.

Well, then I sat there with all my music theory, my own taste and with my hate to the songs and the voice of that singer.
Not knowing what to say or do.
But the emotion of that man was so pure.
I always relate most to songs I feel something for because I recognize something in it (emotion, life-event, dream).
And on that moment I learned that there are people who have that with music which is totally different from my taste and not to judge that.

So, in my opinion: music is random.
