I am a huge Live fan. I have enjoyed every CD (except V, which I can't even listen to bomb.gif except for Simple Creed) but I'm finding that the band has lost originality. I tried making a CD of my favorite songs recently and had trouble placing songs in order since every song is about love or includes water in it in some way. I miss the fun songs cry.gif like Waitress and Shit Towne, they are lacking from newer live CD's. Instead we get songs that include earth elements, are about love over and over again, and sorry attempts to protest the war in some way. I would appreciate a new live CD that did not include songs about love, and had nothing to do with water cry.gif (streams, rivers, ect.) or the sun, and did not mention the war (those songs especially never even seem to be very good at all) (p.s. I am not stating this as any type of comment on the war). Unless Ed can come up with lyrics on original topics that are radio worthy music.gif in the U.S., or that make me want to turn up Live and rock my speakers again rockin.gif , maybe live should hang up their hat and do greatest hits tours ever so often. guitar.gif

The newer Live seems stale and old before I even replay the CD.

Hmmm.. so why are you here again?

I mean, I don't know. Name another band that has been together for 15 years that didn't change their sound a little? Hard to think of many decent bands thats been together (actively) for 15 years.. with all their original members.

Yeah, I too kinda want to hear some of the rough, guitar ladden, darker side of their music. But after listening to all of their albums, I can see their progression. Its interesting to say the least, but its just them maturing. You're not going to get the same passion from a mellowed out guy in his mid 30's as you did from a fresh 19 year old.

I don't think they should call it quits. They're also far from just doing greatest hits tours. They still have fans salivating to see them play in a town near them. They had a crappy lable which treated them badly. I think if they get a little heavier with the next album (which they've given hints toward) and get decent backing, they can come around again.

Just dont be so quick to judge my friend.

And as far as no songs about love... wtf.

Im sorry you feel this way. however it does stand to fact that if songs arnt about love or war then all we have left is some kind of pop idol music which represent premiscuity, indifferance and complacancy.
if bob dylan wrote songs about just do what your told and be happy your alive great movements would never have happened. perhaps you should listen to the to the pussy cat dolls and wonder if your girlfriend did look like an exploited whore. Sure alot of fans arent into the white light sound that LIVE are making but id rather listen to protest and songs and songs about over whelming love than to some generic music that exploits women, indorses violents of any kind, and all sounds the same. I stopped listening to hip-hop and rap when it became generic and stopped being about fighting for equallity. Public Enemy did more for African Americans than Martin Luther King Jr. but Tupac and Snopp draged a great movement into the gutter and made it about sex, drugs and gang violence.

ROCK will forever be about love, ANTI-war and protest. You may have just out grown the band but that happens. I used to love the offspring and Greenday but they have become old and generic like the RHCP.
Just remember the stuff you like and pray that they make an album you can crank up again.

And on the Water theme. ED has always stated that water is the most powerful element and thats why it feature so much in his lyrics. and if you think about it you can remove all the elements with water land erodes, fire is quenched, and air is unbreathable without it.

these are my thoughts on the topic not an attack on you. just remember why you love early live and enjoy it. no one can make you like something your not into.

I beg to differ. Henry Rollins will give it to you just the same regarless of age. No fame no love no president will ever be able to silence the rage that drives Henry Rollins.

Judge my comment if you will but remember MLKj was about compromise. public enemy were about reenergising the new youth who grew up with out a strong role model.

it was one of the great black pather leaders that said it is time to stop using the pen it has no strenght it is the fist that will liberate black america from the white politicians who seek to oppress us.

I read and learn. to many people care less about has actually taken place then what history tells us.

The white panthers were the violent group along with the weathermen. yet the black panthers took most of the heat.

sure... so the dam at otter creek isnt bout water? songs like WATERboy for example.... ? just to get things straight

and ofcourse a song like I alone (I alone LOVE YOU) isnt about love, right? Turn my head....?

and White, Dicussion for sure aint anything political.... ofcourse.... cause that would prove you wrong, and we wouldnt want that to happen now, would we?

maybe you should dig up all the albums and pick your favs that dont include love or water.... let's see how many ya have left then...

god, I hate being cynical early in the morning.... omg.gif

Honestly, what are you thinking posting something like this on a Live fanboard? I'm all in for that freedom of speech thing, but don't expect too much support here...

Btw, happy belated birthday +Ed+!! smile.gif
