hey guys im totally bumming. i made sure to get the perfect taping spot for LIVE last night and for some reason the bass was overpowering. so much so that it distorted my recording. my bush and chevelle recordings turned out great. but Live... well... not so much. im a little hesitant to even share the full thing (i dont like putting out shitty recordings), but if you want it, let me know. facepalm.gif

Alright I'll be that guy.....Ed has no balls any more. He still sounds like SFBM Ed with his stupid "child" and other nonsense thrown in. Was excited for the reunion but he has been castrated. Give me The Gracious Few instead of this. Don't hate me, big Live fan. Just thought he wouldn't sound so cheesy for some reason.

Really? Was it just the added words that bothered you or was it his voice? Because I have to say that after seeing their rehearsal the other day I thought he sounded really good. The whole band did. I mean, I'm not expecting Ed from pre BoP years but I honestly think he sounds better than he has in years.

Ed sounds great. It's not even fair to expect him to sound exactly the same after all these years.

Said Chris Cornell once--“Clearly, I’m not going to be able to sing this way forever,” he said. “I think people get too hung up on singers and their range, sort of like they’d expect Michael Jordan to get out on a basketball court and play like he once did. It’s physically impossible.”

I found this quote the other day and saved it because I so agree. People get way too hung up on voices. Be grateful we have all four original Live members together and enjoy the music & shows.

Ed's voice was absolutely crucial to Live being the best. If suddenly Chad's guitar or Gracey's drums started sounding weaker and wavering, that would suck too. All that's left is nostalgia and hopefully some new fair songwriting.

I get it....and I don't expect that....but these songs weren't meant to be sung with a big smile on your face and throwing in "child" and "lord" at every break. I'm not saying Ed should have the angst he had years ago, it's just the way he sings and his stage presence is now just screams cheese to me. Again, this is coming from a Live fan since the mid-90s, someone who even enjoys V quite a bit. I can't express very well how I feel about it, but while I am happy they are back, it's just not the same for me. I will still go see them, of course, but to me, they are a nostalgia act at this point. I would seriously rather have a new TGF CD. That album had balls and was better than anything Live's done since TDTH.

Trust me, I couldn't stand solo Ed. I'll never forget the day I clicked on his video for "Seven." I wish I could forget it. It was cheese and embarrassing! So, I get your point there. However, there were people who dug it (the Christian Contemporary crowd I always figured) and so good for them. The way I look at it is, artists go off and do their side things and can easily return to their bread and butter. Like, Steven Tyler sang country for a while but is back tearing it up with Aerosmith. Tommy Lee is first a rock drummer, but has his hip hop DJ stuff. It's quite common.

Are you referring to the vids from last night? If so, you couldnt really see Ed's mannerisms. It was too far back and the lights too blinding. I only heard him throw child into Dolphin's Cry. I thought he was awesome at their NYE show.

So Ed doesn't sing like a pissed off 20 year old who's in the middle of the grunge era, mad at the world and trying to make it? More like a established guy who is mid life and settled with a wife and kids who are now getting older. Very strange.

Again, not looking for that, but somewhere in the middle. His style, IMO, has changed pretty drastically compared to his contemporaries.

I was there last night and the show was a triumph, felt like a celebration of their whole career. The band's arrangements were great and Ed performed with real emotion and was not corny at all. His voice might not be exactly as it was 20 years but he sounded really good to me. Never thought I'd get to see Live play in front of that many people who were engaged with the show again, I was blown away.

Really glad to hear all the excitement about the performance. Haven't watched anything myself yet, but just reading this makes me want to make it to their show out here in Michigan in July.

I just got back from Ohio where I saw Live at Rock on the Range. I really payed attention to what the crowd was saying around me and here are a few of my thoughts of that and the set...

-Before Live went on, many of the people around me were trying to remember the names of songs, the lyrics, etc. It was pretty obvious that Live was not at the forefront of everyone's mind going into this show.

-When Live started with All Over You, everyone pretty much lost the amnesia and there was a TON of singing.

-Throwing Copper material seemed to get a better reaction than anything else (for obvious reasons.

-Ed was not screaming or making angry faces at sound people. He seemed legitimately in the moment and happy to be there.

-As already mentioned multiple times, I Am A Highway got a huge reception. They really did perform it flawlessly. It was probably the best cover of the weekend short of The Pretty Reckless doing Like A Stone.

-Ed sounded decent, however I do have one complaint: He seems to favor the high range of his voice and did a lot of runs...often to the detriment of the song. I love the lower range of Ed's voice. It's not a matter of capability, he just needs to do it.

-I was hoping for a new song, but for the festival experience, going with wheelhouse songs worked well. For the remainder of the weekend, I would hear the crowd bring them up here and there. They definitely left an impression, which is exactly what they needed to do.

-All in all, a great time with a decent set. I look forward to more!
