Who is Rush?
Looked it up. There is an Australian TV show and there is a Canadian band and an American movie...which one? I'm thinking tv show because I know how those Dutchies and Belgians love Home and Away!!!

Never heard of them. But will look them up. Are they good? 1968? Old band!

He's never gonna come back if you keep teasing him.

It's not teasing, it's affectionate ribbing tongue.gif
I liked the kid, but I honestly couldn't ever truly get a grasp on what his actual opinions were though.
Not that i'd really care one way or the other which they were, but it was confusing when he'd say one thing then something totally different.

I kind of miss him, too. He seemed to have the heart at the right place.
heynow.gif Ahem, what? Who is this guy?!? Ok, introducing time eventually ...

Hello Live community,

or should I say family? That's what it almost is to me, with all the good and the bad. Is that scary?
My name is André, I'm a long-time follower of the board and may have posted some time ago. Maybe around 2004 or something, but I don't expect anyone to remember the few posts I did. Because although I'm a communication designer my focus is on letting a design communicate. Words not so much. That's the reason I lurk most of the time and am frustrated when I cannot participate in one of the fun discussions here, because I was too lazy to properly introduce myself. I was raised to be polite ...

Although I pretty much open to anything genre-wise (German Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop, some Prog), Live is still the band I'm emotionally attached to the most. Since TDTH, which I discovered shortly before V, I'm in love with the raw emotional power and sometimes wild energy of their back catalogue. And although I know what music is out there and Live objectively is not the most creative or technically skilled band, I feel a uniqueness in the music that just works for me. Favorite track is still "Where Fishes Go", which is a good example of a track I've never heard before from any other band. But hey, that's just someone talking about something he loves blush.gif
Other than that I like the moodier stuff like TBD or Ghost the same as White Discussion or Lakini's Juice. The most recent song painting pictures in my mind is Don't Wait. Yeah, I want all the B-Sides of TDTH as soon as possible!
I've seen the band four times (Brussels 2003, Leuven 2004, Munich, Cologne 2006) and met them last year when touring with The Gracious Few. Nervous as I was I still managed to mumble a few words to them, asking Taylor if his leg was better, telling Gracey why he inspired me to start playing drums and telling everyone what a great show they've put on. Things they might have heard a thousand times already, you know. I'm happy to share two pics with you.

IPB ImageIPB Image

I'm not much of a lyrics guy as long as they sound profound or at least interesting and not generic and predictable. This priority may shift a bit in my mother tongue, but in general it's the symbiosis of words and music and less the pure meaning of lyrics. Secret Samadhi would've been a difficult case for me otherwise.

As you can see, I cannot be much of a fan of their more recent work. Still I've talked myself into liking a lot of BOP, if not necessarily sonic wise. Too polished. SFBM tried hard in achieving the same, but I barely listen to a single song of it anymore. I've forgotten about Alive already. The music doesn't inspire me enough to see over the preaching. I'm not religious, still like a few Christian concepts and ideas. But I cannot stand missionaries.
I read a lot on this board so I think I'm very informed about the big topics here, the lawsuits, Chris Shinn, new studio albums and sadly, because very unnecessary, Nick. From an distant view it's very clear that both parties here are very stuck into their positions and the history of this ongoing quarrel is showing in many of the posts. The frustrations about past arguments influences the way some people go into these discussions. Often the information itself is buried under agendas and a year-spanning dynamic of defending and attacking. It's interesting and sad at the same time. Still, for fans of the band +Live+ it's the best place to be (although Fish is very much earning a spot of himself. His profoundness of and passion for the band is making his website a must-read)
I want to thank Dan for running this board and, in my opinion, in a very calm and thoughtful way. It's still freedom of speech. A lot of people don't like, what Nick says, but that's not a reason to ban him. No matter if it is an agenda, born out of any motivation or if it is bad for both parties. I think it wouldn't shine a good light on the ideas of Live if banning would be the tool of choice to deal with those things. It's you who make these discussions, so deal with the consequences.

Ok, wow, that's a long read and I'm sorry. Please don't quote this in full smile.gif
I just want to finally state a few things: I am more than enthusiastic about Chris Shinn (I loved Unified Theory back in the days) and although I will miss the uniqueness of the older Ed, I have to get over it and be open to the uniqueness of Chris. It's not a replacement. It's a continuation of the story of Live. The Gracious Few's idea was something different and I liked it aswell. But I'm still relieved that Live goes on in a way that most probably won't hurt as much as the past years. What can I say, I'm just looking forward in being a more active part of the board in this exciting time!

Dankeschön fürs Lesen!

True, but I didn't go between liking a band and disliking it all in one day though, and then back again.
He had a good heart though, everyone gives everyone else a bit of shit around here, it's what people do, i don't think anyone was seriously having a go at the kid like is done with a couple of specific people. Funky has a thing for my Mum for example, I'm not just going to up and leave for that. He just got called on something and spit the dummy. I doubt OTD meant any actual aggression behind it.
So if you're out there AOM, come back mate hi.gif

Hey Pokey hi.gif Good to be back! Although it doesn't feel like I was gone, since I've still read mostly everything written here. But I just saw that you joined in the year of 2006, so I must've stopped being active later than 2004. I guess after SFBM. Strange coincident...

Edit: Ok, I guess everybody joined then. Must have been the beginning of the new board facepalm.gif

haha yeah this current board started in 2006, I initially joined the old board in 2002, but I think there's a couple of 2001 originals still floating around from time to time.

Hi PhoenixDecay - you sound like you fit right in around here. Just don't show any allegiance to Ed wink.gif

Opinechik, I listened to Rush on itunes - I don't know any of their music! Sometimes I'm just clueless to who sings stuff but never heard any of it before.

Hi Jayda! Yeah, I will seemlessly blend into the collective lol.gif
Well the whole story around Ed is very complex. After listening to the results of their efforts in this millenium I wasn't very surprised by the things Chad Taylor tells and I'm still waiting for his book, which will be coming out approximately 2037. But I'm not taking all which is said on trust. It's just not all black and white. Like I don't judge CCP for having their conflicts with musical integrity, friendship and money, which hold them together as a group of people releasing subpar albums, I won't judge Ed for doing the things, he is said to have done. Everyone made their mistakes and all the following has it's origin in that. Or maybe in the record company which forced them to release V and whatever else they forced them too ... Emotions have the habit of piling up. Like in a relationship, where all your unverbalized mistakes are in full view at the next fight. And Ed wanting to do his thing is a valid motion. You don't have to forget that the organic feel of the group before V was lost after the record company stuff. I guess the whole thing could have been handled a lot better, but who am I to judge those dynamics, which actions I just know by those two parties telling them.

If I had to take a side it's of course CCP's. Just because I like the music and from a subjective moral position I understand them more. But that's all. Sorry for saying those things in this thread, but it's still introduction smile.gif

I don't remember chiming in, although I definitely thought the same thing. I'm guessing it did hurt his feelings but y'know, he was going on about people leaving and then left himself so I dunno. Either way, I think all would agree the door is wide open for welcoming him back. I think OTD was just trying to get a grasp on where he actually stood on things because his responses were pretty confusing.
