Review by the Edge Family of Wirral, Merseyside
Just returned from the Manchester gig. LIVE were fantastic as usual (we've seen them in Manchester six times). The crowd went mad for them and gave them a really outstanding welcome. Ed was on top form, the band absolutely brilliant. We love LIVE in England. They must come over more often. A good mix of old and new material and a bit of Johnny Cash. Please return to England soon as possible, I'm sure they could sell out more dates.

This was my second Live gig, and I definately agree with the previous reviewer, they should come to England far more often!! The band themselves were absolutely first class, sounded superb and were all on top form. Highlights for me included when Ed mirrored Chad T's stomp at the end of Lakinis Juice, Mirror Song, the singalong at the end, and when Pat tripped over the wires coming back for the encore ;) The only gripe I'd have with the whole thing was we got a much shorter setlist than the last couple of times! Rattlesnake/Simple Creed was dropped as the opener, and we got no Shit Towne :( Overall though, brilliant! Come back soon guys!!

Why are LIVE not massive in the UK? It must be one of lifes great mysteries, that can only be attributed to the inept performance of the record label. This band have everything; great tunes, a fantastic frontman and an exceptionally loyal fan base. It's no coincidence that whenever I come to see LIVE, I meet lots of great people who I wouldn't mind keeping in touch with in the future (Daz, Caz, Stavros, Kiddy and the guy who got my t-shirt for me and who I met again at Glasgow's ABC the next night). As for the show, it was an avalanche of big rock numbers with the subtlety of a few ballads and the odd sing-a-long thrown in for good measure. The venue was very small with a capacity I believe of around 750!! In other words, wherever you stood in the hall you had an excellent view. The heat in the place was akin to a turkish bath, with Ed commenting on it a couple of times. The setlist was quite clever in its' planning as it seemed to pick up pace throughout show, just as you thought there was nothing left in the tank. They rolled out classic after classic and seemed to turn up the tempo and heat with every song. Ed throughout the gig seemed concerned with his voice and was continually spraying his throat throughout the night. On a couple of occasions he actually failed to hit the high notes and seemed to play safe thereafter with the rest. Chad Taylor said after the gig that Ed had a sore throat for the first time in years and that he was freaking out with it (Ed left very quickly after the gig, saying very little). Highlights of the night for me were Lakinis Juice (with the 'twin stomp'), Mystery, Sofia, Heaven and Dance with You. One disappointment though was that I would have dearly loved to have heard Rattlesnake and Turn my Head again. Thanks to Ed and the guys for spending time with us after the gig and being really friendly and obliging with autographs and pictures. And they say you should never meet your idols...Bollocks!! Again like above... 3 years is way too long guys and I'm getting too old to do two nights in a row again. Get the band on 'Friday Night with Jonathan Ross' and watch the UK erupt at what we've been shouting about all these years. Until the next time "I wanna dance with you".
Review by "secret simadhi" of England
As usual a very good gig, they always look as they really enjoy what they do as opposed to a lot of other bands that just seem to go through the motions. The support band were quite good did'nt catch there name but reminded me of Placebo. Live played a good mix of the new album and older stuff the majority from Throwing Copper, I was slightly disappointed they only played one from Mental Jewelry which is my favourite album. Highlight of the night was "I walk the Line" with a surprisingly rocking chorus! A unusually hot night in Manchester ended with Ed thanking the crowd and saying "if you keep calling we'll keep coming" which is something I'll defintely be doing!
Review by "Concrete Bullet" of Leeds, England
Very hot night, but an excellent crowd showing Live that their following is growing in the UK. Excellent set with almost every album represented...was Secret Samadhi in there though? The opening band were called Dharma (I think), but i didn't see them at all. Already looking forward to the next time Live grace us with their presence in the UK... maybe they'll come up to Leeds.
