I am 31 years old, and I have seen live from Club Babyhead days, even CBGB days, and with most bands, after years of touring it takes it toll on most bands and they lose their enjoyment of what they once loved. Last night I was amazed. Live was loving life as much as they were a night I saw them with Vic Chesnutt at Irving Plaza on a promo tour for Throwing Copper. Chad Gracey, who I always enjoy watching, was unreal, perfect but still head down concentrating like the drums are all that is left in the world. I was a little surprised about how many songs they played off of throwing copper, but buisness
sense is smart to rekindle fans with live. Their new songs were great as well, so powerful and fun actually. The highlight of the show was right before "I Walk The Line" Ed quoted Simon from when "shi*head" from American Idol played the same song. I do not think many caught it, but it was hysterical. The song was absolutley beautiful, I was so happy to have gotten to hear that live. Well I might have messed up some of the order on the set list, but it is close enough. Another great show, and thank you Live, was a great birthday gift to me.

The concert last night at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, RI was great! While waiting outside for the venue to open, we saw the band come in for sound check. As they were leaving again Ed said they would be playing new songs and I asked if they were going to play Wings. He said they had to practice it, but would play it during the May shows. I’d really like to
hear it in concert. The doors opened at 6:30 and the opening act, Ari Hest, took the stage at 7:30. The venue was an interesting old theater with a multilevel floor so people in the back were higher for better viewing. I think Live came on around 8 - 8:30, I don’t really remember, time seemed to speed up due to the alcohol consumption. The sound wasn’t the greatest; the guitars were REALLY loud so you couldn’t hear what Ed was saying. Since we all knew the words it wasn’t a big deal, but you really couldn’t hear him. The highlight was they CHANGED the setlist! They played IRIS!!!!!!I haven’t heard it in concert
since 1994. They also played I Walk the Line, which I hadn’t heard since 1999. Both were awesome and the band really seemed to enjoy them. Run Away, Turn My Head, and Love Shines were dropped and Ed was solo for Overcome. I’m hoping they keep Iris for awhile, as well as I Walk the Line. The band looked great and seemed to be rested and in good spirits. They came out into the theater after the show to talk with everyone. It was a little rushed because the venue turned into a dance club at 11:00 and everyone had to leave. We did talk to Adam for awhile and he mentioned the album push back. Something about when it’s the right timing for radio stations to pick up songs and how they don’t. It’s all a little fuzzy. I just remember mainly asking if he would be playing in NYC on May 10 and discussing how to make that happen. I am honestly the worlds worst at remembering the order of setlists, so there might be more songs and in a different order. But by and large that’s it. They switched things around, played Iris and I Walk the Line, dropped songs, said the album would be out June 13th, and seemed to have a good time. I know I did.

I am an avid fan of Live, and have scooped up all their albums as soon as they come out. I finally got a chance to go to my second Live concert this past weekend in RI. The last time I saw Live was seven years ago in VT. First I would like to say that these guys still put on an amazing show, their talents are unlimited, and you certainly get your moneys worth. Unfortunatly as the concert progressed, I realized that this was no where near as good as the one I had seen seven years ago. The band was no trying to showboat, particularly Ed. Despite the disturbing antics the crowd was not overly enthused. I think the guys need to get back to their basics, they still play the best music, produce the most amazing albums, and I still love their music; however, the crowd loved Live even more in VT becuase they put forth the best damn show any of us had ever seen, with their music, not by taking off clothes, and showboating around. One of the things I distinctly remember is that the show seemed to go on forever, it was awesome, they easily jammed over two hours, where as the RI show barely passed 1.5 hours, and that was including a 20 minute break.z

Anyway, I was somewhat disappointed with the band that has come to be my favorite group ever, and I hope that this was just a fluke, and that the band still puts out the best shows ever. I am greatly looking forward to the new album coming out June 13. Hopefully it is as great as all the others have been. Live always puts out whole albums of great music, where most groups have one or maybe two good tracks, and the rest are fillers. I hope Sony does not effect this wonderful aspect of Live that has made them my favorite and most recommended band.

P.S. Come Back to Vermont!! There are a lot of fans here that feel somewhat neglected due to the overwhelming number of concerts in Europe, and too few in the U.S.
