+LIVE+ came to Hartford, CT last night for the first time in almost 6 years. I've been a fan of the band for a very long time and have a LOT of their live recordings, but I had never seen them in person. Seeing +LIVE+ is completely different than hearing them on a bootleg.

The doors opened at 7 and Zox came on at 8:15 and played for an hour or so. They weren't too bad for a warmup band. +LIVE+ didn't come on stage until 10:20 and the "way-more-than-capacity" crowd was getting pretty damn restless. The crowd even started to boo as they were getting frustrated that the band had still not come out a good 3 hrs. and 20 minutes after the doors opened (and a full hour-plus after Zox had exited). Why they came on so late I'll never know. Fortunately, as soon as they came on and pounded out "All Over You" they won the crowd over.

The boys really rocked the house at the Webster Theater in Hartford last night. The overflowing capacity crowd was totally into it and Ed and the boys fed off the energy of the crowd. Ed had a particularly strong vocal night and seemed to really enjoy himself thoroughly. I was blown away by how much the crowd was into the show. For some reason, I had not expected everyone to be as "into" the show as I was, but they were. Whenever Ed stopped singing, the whole audience sang their asses off and picked up where he left off. The whole band seemed to be genuinely appreciative of the enthusiastic crowd.

The setlist was pretty comprehensive with several songs off the new album (The River, Mystery, Sofia, Show, Love Shines) and an awesome encore (Turn My Head, Run to the Water, Shit Towne, The Beauty of Gray, White Discussion, and Dance with You). How appropriate that they played "Shit Towne" in Hartford. What a perfect description for the dump that is Hartford. Every album was represented except for "V," which I guess the band is trying to forget (though I personally like several songs off that record too).

Ed mentioned that "if the album gets pushed back yet again, I'm going to go to the record label with a baseball bat and take care of things" (or something like that). He also went on a rant about how much he DESPISES American Idol and told everyone to boycott the show and that it (American Idol) will be the "downfall of American civilization." He said to stop watching it and go out and buy the new LIVE record instead when it comes out on May 9th. I thought it was kind of interesting how he kept plugging the new record, and telling everyone it was coming out on May 9th and to go out and buy it. In fact, he said go out and buy it and then tell your Hartford friends how awesome the new record is. He literally plugged the new album three times or more.

The whole show was great, but one minor criticism I have is the constant change of guitars was very distracting to the show. It seems like the roadie was on stage as much as Chad Taylor as they had quite a few issues with the guitars. Between fixing guitar problems and changing guitars, the roadie was constantly on stage. What's really funny about it is that I really did not actually hear the guitar problems from my vantage point, though it certainly seemed to piss of Chad Taylor. In fact, I thought the sound in the Webster was fantastic.

They ended the concert with "Dance with You" and the audience participation made the song and the night very special. I hope someone was able to capture it on tape for posterity!

Last night proved that +LIVE+ is still a powerful and viable band after all these years!!

This show was AWESOME! It got started late, Live didn't come on stage until almost 10:30, the crowd was getting a little restless, they even started booing. But they forgot all about it when LIVE came on. They opened with All Over You which got the crowd going and it never stopped. The show was sold out, which was very good to see because I want them to keep coming back to New England! I see them again tomorrow in Worcester!

I am a huge fan of +LIVE+, dating back to the Mental Jewelry days. I am happy to say that I have had the great fortune of seeing them 7 or 8 times over the years. There is just something incredible about going to a +LIVE+ concert... you leave the venue feeling full of love and hope and unified with every single person around you. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case at The Webster Theater in Hartford, CT. The crowd was restless, bordering on belligerent because it took Live a little longer than usual to come out on stage. There was actually booing coming from the audience. I couldn't believe it! There was something very different about this crowd that I have never experienced at a +LIVE+ concert... some kind of negativity...

As I was walking to get a closer view, I was met with an elbow to my stomach. Attached to the elbow was this rude chick who started yelling at me, "Where do you think you're going? You're not getting in front of us.. go another way!!". And the opening band hadn't even gotten on stage yet!! Then as we were all waiting for +LIVE+ to get on stage, the guy behind me was shoved into me by some drunks who were trying to force their way to the front of the crowd... Whatever, it's a concert - that happens, but two girls ended up getting into a screaming match and I tried to reason with them telling them not to fight because we will all be listening to our band soon. Out of nowhere, this dude pushes me with both hands and starts screaming at me to shut up and to leave his girlfriend alone. I don't know if it was the crowd or the venue, but the place was definitely NOT filled with the pure electricity and positive feelings that you experience at a +LIVE+ concert. Of course, once Eddie K. and the boys appeared on stage, the negativity had dissipated. On a positive note, the show itself was incredible as usual. Last night's show in particular seemed to be much more sensual, and I'd even venture to say sexually charged, than other +LIVE+ concerts I have been to... no complaints here!!

Looking forward to my next +LIVE+ experience (hopefully in the NYC area!)

I also had a chance to go see LIVE in Hartford. It was awesome. I have been to many shows since 94 but never have I had such a great experience as I did sunday night. We were in the first row up against the rails. The band was only inches from my face. They put on a great set and Beauty of Grey was awesome. For their final song they played Dance with you which was my wedding song. They were great and Ed even undid his pants and let his ass hang out, that was mostly a treat for me rather than my husband. And to top it all off I cought one of Chad's drumsticks. It was the best show. I will never forget it! I just want to thank the guys for making such awesome music and for continuing to share it with the world! I can not wait to see them again and again and again! I can not wait for the new album!
