SHINEDOWN AND LIVE TO HEADLINE JULY 8TH
April 27th, 2017

The final headliners are here for the 2017 Common Ground Music Festival and they are Shinedown and LiVE on Saturday, July 8th.

American rock band Shinedown have built their name on rock songs both brutal in power and epic in scope. Now, with their last album, Shinedown (Brent Smith, Barry Kerch, Eric Bass, and Zach Myers) veer away from that densely layered sonic palette and take a more direct approach. Featuring lead single “Cut the Cord” — a blistering track that shot to #1 on Active Rock radio — Threat to Survival finds the multi-platinum-selling band achieving their most powerful sound ever and offering up their most important album to date. They have sold over ten million albums worldwide, and have had eleven number one singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts, the third most of all-time, behind Van Halen and Three Days Grace.

The band LiVE had a string of hit singles in the mid-1990s including "Lightning Crashes", which stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for 10 consecutive weeks and the Modern Rock Tracks (now Alternative Songs) chart for nine weeks from February 25 to April 22, 1995. The band has sold over 20 million albums worldwide and reunited in late 2016 to tour with a stop in Lansing on Saturday, July 8th.

Saturday, July 8th will also feature Festival fan favorites Here Come The Mummies, The Legal Immigrants and more to be announced! The remaining lineup for Sunday, July 9th is also here and it features Twista, SahBabii, Waldo, Tugga The Rapper, Rosco P, and Diamond Jones.

Single Day Tickets for Saturday, July 8th go on-sale to the public on Friday, April 28th at 10:00 AM. Tickets can be purchased online at www.commongroundfest.com.

I'm bummed out. Will be out of town that week and it probably means they are skipping Arts, Beats and Eats. Holding out hope they hit MI twice.

Lol Shinedown and Live. What a pairing.

Have to be honest, don't really know Shinedown. Why LOL?
Merica
I'm a big Shinedown fan. They're my two favourite bands. Shinedown are mainstream rock in that kind of group with Seether, Breaking Benjamin, Halestorm, Black Stone Cherry etc. It just seems a bit of an odd pairing cos they're different types of acts, but obviously this is a festival. It's not like they're co-headlining shows together or whatever.

I'll be at the show tomorrow. I'll let y'all know what I think. I may take a puff of Old Toby beforehand, so hopefully I'll actually remember it.

Any new songs performed at this concert?

Same setlist with Run to the Water, and Ed performing Heaven solo acoustic.

I was at the show. I thought they sounded good; I just hope they can start to alter the setlist a bit in the near future.

Random thoughts:

1. I'm not a fan of festivals.
2. There were a lot more Shinedown shirts than Live shirts in the crowd, but a surprising amount of people knew the words to at least one Live song.
3. The show felt short.
4. Waiting 20 minutes for a festival Porta Potty sucks.
5. I like Heaven acoustic as a break in the set.
6. I like the layered guitars with the dude from EKsolo.
7. Easily the most marijuana I've witnessed at a Live concert.
8. Weather was nice.

Was Ed in the beginning even aware of the fact Chad Taylor sang along? Lol. Or was CT joking by doing this?

It's really weird to me Ed did a solo Heaven. Why not the full band? Why play a song that Ed basically wrote himself during the era of tension with the band instead of a song like Beauty of Gray or Turn My Head? It's especially weird to play this kind of adult contemporary song at a festival headlined by Shinedown. The whole thing just feels odd.

Or even yet, why not play one of their new songs? Why do they continue to just sit on the "5 or 6" songs they supposedly have? shrug.gif

A few things they've done and haven't done since the reunion absolutely befuddle me.

Heaven is a great Live song, and a pretty big hit for the band. I'm glad it is back in the setlist.

Shinedown has plenty of Hot A/C songs, Heaven fits fine with them.

Have to admit I' m not on Ed playing solo stuff. I can understand Overcome in Dutch land because it was a huge success there. We can't say the same a out Heaven in the US, for a rock crowd.

They could totally throw Heropsychodreamer out there, or The dam at Otter Creek, or Sparkle, or TBD, or Freaks or whatever, but Heaven is a confusing choice for this kind of show.

The shows sound good so far, and like Voodoo said, why not throwing a new song now? It's time. It could give them momentum if it's good. They miss an opportunity the same as when they toured Summerland in 2013 with an album that came out more than a year after that tour.

Wish that Gracey recovers fast...sad injury.

You just made me wonder what they're going to play for the GnR crowds in August?! Heaven would go from confusing to a mistake. August has quite a few big opportunities for setlist surprises.-- Lollapalooza, Allentown, and the GnR shows. If they don't bust out Freaks, Heropsychodreamer, TDAOC, or a kick ass new song at one of these, I'm going to go from being minorly annoyed to PISSED.

Like I said, it wasn't a completely Ed solo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kIe0nGzCw8 See? eyebrow.gif We only have to get worried again when The River makes it back to the current setlist. Actually, I think the band doesn't look back in anger on songs like Heaven. But sure as hell they could have chosen other songs!
The thing I still find dissapointing is that, when they go for an accoustic song, it's never with the whole band. That seems ages ago! (Apart from the TGF and CS era's)

uggg, no. It isn't a great Live song. It may be popular, and I'm not saying its a bad song, but it isn't a good Live song, and it shouldn't be included in such a short set. It's a good Ed song. Heck it's a good pop song.

My thoughts exactly.

They may get along well now, but sadly I don't imagine any good new material coming out of the group now. I think that musically we are going to see a continuation of where they left off with Ed, which is disappointing.
LiveForNow
Whether Heaven is a good song or not, I think Ed up there solo sends the wrong message. CCP is pretending Chris never existed. There should be a similar distancing from Ed's solo career during the reunion period. But Ed up there with an acoustic guitar is basically what he did during the break, and to be reminded of the break/Ed's solo career is not the right message to send.

Is there a good reason why Ed would perform Heaven solo instead of the full band?

Hopefully, the reason is that CC&P did not want to play it because it sucks.

True, but to let him go and play it if that's the case is not better for CCP.

I'm just happy my favorite band is still out there playing music. Hopefully Live becomes a staple summer concert tour band.
