Yeah...the song itself is great, but mostly everybody opts for the live recordings because they sound a hell of a lot better than the studio version floating around, which is why you don't see it very often. I forget where I got a hold of it...maybe LiveNet back when it was alive. It sounds worse than "Hold Me Up" to begin with, and then it has a ton of pops and clicks that are really aggravating. So I'm looking forward to this recording of it.

It's such a shame that the majority of the outtakes that we have from back in the day are in such bad condition. Any improvements would be awesome! happy.gif

This tape is definitely the source of the versions of We Deal in Dreams, Hold Me Up and Susquehanna that have been floating around for years.

I haven't given them a thorough listening yet, but here are the differences I've noticed.

We Deal in Dreams - This is the same bass-driven version that leaked years ago, but it's the correct speed. (The version floating around was way too fast.)
Shit Towne - This version has the full guitar ending as opposed to the fadeout of the album cut.
Waitress - I've noticed some alternate vocal recordings and the ending is different.

There are probably other differences, but I haven't picked the tracks apart yet. Awesome stuff, though. Thanks a lot, Ike!

I traded for this tape a long time ago during the old SOY email digest days. I forget who I got the dub from, but whoever it was may have been the source of the original digital captures of the b-sides. I didn't do any tape transfers back in the day.

As for the content, there are some noticable differences between this and the original.. here's what I picked out over the years of listening to the tape. This may not be everything, though.

Dam at Otter Creek: Production on the vocals is much different. Sounds like Ed is through a megaphone (this vocal distortion is not the fault of the source.. it was meant to be this way)

We're dealing dreams - correct in that is this Bass/Drums only version and it is the non-chipmunked verison smile.gif

Iris - backup vocals are quite different. I needed to listen through headphones to notice this one

Hold Me Up - same as verison floating around.. but (I hope) better quality

Susquehanna - unfortunately there are some irrepairable damage points near the end of the tune, but I hope this transfer beats the one I D/L'd a long time ago. OF COURSE, this had to be the tune of the worst quality on this dub I have sad.gif

Shit Towne - Guitar outro vs. fadeout

Pillar of Davidson - Don't know on this one...?

Top - Stick-clicks.. and to me sounds like more guitar tracks in the verses and in general

Stage - some studio noise before the track starts. Some varied guitar to my ears.

All Over You - Honestly, I think the only difference here is the stick-clicks to intro the tune

Ike The Man is working on getting me an unaltered version, so once I get it (hopefully sometime tonight or tomorrow) I will be posting it to the site for everyone to download.

Found a disc with a bunch of live b-sides I downloaded years ago just now... got a decent version of Supernatural, doesn't sound like it was recorded live, but then apparently it was never recorded in the studio... it might be exactly the same as the one everyone has, but if anyones interested i'll send it to you. Just PM me...

There's a good quality acoustic recording of Supernatural that didn't come from the MTV unplugged. It's good stuff. These, and a few electric live recordings, are the ones around I think. I'm not aware of a studio version either.

I had a soundboard version of Supernatual up from the 1995 WXPN sessions awhile back - I think that's one of the best versions currently out there.

BTW, I got ahold of the unaltered files from Ike - they don't sound much better than the files we already have, so I'm not sure if you guys still want me to put any of them up or not?

I said up front that the quality of this material is questionable at times. Not my fault or the fault of the transfer methods I used. I used top quality, professional equipment and the best post-production audio software on the market today (Pro Tools) to do the work. It is what it is because the SOURCE is questionable, but an improvement over what was available before. Just want to make that really clear.

aww man i feel so irritated right now omg.gif

i just rented the 'Mallrats' dvd JUST to see the one deleted scene that apparently had Lift Me Up in it, and my god ... only the first 5 or so seconds, such a tease!

..but, this does mean that there is a proper high quality studio version out there, am i right?
it sounded much better than all the version's i've seen, even if it was 5 seconds

hehe maybe we should plug the people who made mallrats on where they got it whistle.gif
