Tomorrow I will have had SFBM one week. On the day that I got it , I posted that I did not like it and was very disappointed. I am now eating my words ! I love it and I can't stop listening to it. Go figure - that will teach me to not be so impulsive with my opinion next time. Thanks to everyone for encouraging me to keep listening. I came very close to putting it back in the case and pitching it in the back seat of my car. That is what I did with BOP and I did not listen to it again for 6 months. I have a suspicion that SFBM may sneak right up to the top of my list of favorites but I won't be impulsive again and say that right now. shrug.gif

It is so amazing to me that the majority of Live fans that have listened to SFBM either had a negative or somewhat lukewarm reaction to the album after the first listen or two, but, after many listens, have grown to really love the album. For some reason, the nature of this album is such that it grows on you and opens and reveals itself to you after many listens. So many people's opinions have changed about the album and songs on the album. I dare say that this is my favorite Live album right now and I never thought I'd say that after my first listen.

Who here likes SFBM more after many listens than you did after you first heard it?

I am particularly curious about whether Dan's opinion has changed. Dan posted his initial reaction to the album after he first heard it and I wonder whether he likes it more now than he did then.

[By the way, have I missed something or has anyone else noticed that many of the negative posts and flame antagonists have been quiet for a few weeks. It's been pretty nice around here lately!]

I like it more and more every time I listen. Each time I pick up on some subtle background instrument or vocal. Sophia makes more sense if it actually means wisdom. It completely changes the song for me. Each song has some unique quality IMO.

I totally agree! I played it several times during my first few days with it, and was about 50/50 on the songs. Then I put it down for a few days, and found I couldn't get it out of my head. I'm liking it more and more.

I believe Sophia represents wisdom, truth, or love - something spiritual - not actually a person. From what I know of meditation, some levels or feelings of meditation can feel like water dripping down your head onto your shoulders, etc.

I thought maybe that's what he's referring too - orrrr, maybe I'm just thinking too much.

I agree completely. In fact, with all new Live albums, I'm kind of lukewarm after the first few listens anyway. For this album, I liked it better on first listen than previous albums. And it only gets better.

There is another thread on this too, "a week later..." I think it's called.

Sophia is used as a name for a person but its Greek literal meaning is "wisdom" anyway.

i've had the album for probably around 2 months now and have listened to it several times (and still do) and it just isn't growing on me. i have pretty much the same opinion now as i did when i first listened to it. it's just ok. it's nothing that i would make everyone listen to and say "hey! you have to hear this new Live album!!" i wish i could say that about it but i just can't.

I got to be honest.

After hearing bits and pieces of the album online, mainly 30 second clips of 5 songs from MLB.com I was getting excited to hear it.

Then I bought it and put it on my iPod and listened to it with headphones.

The first time I listened to it, I almost cried. I was depressed. I couldn't believe I waited all these years, and for this.

Fast forward a few more days, a few more weeks, and a lot more listens, and I can honestly say, I love the album.

I think there are some really good songs on the album. I enjoy listening to it.

On a the negative side, I would say there are some better versions of some of the songs floating around, especially from the Palladium (Cologne, Germany) concert.

Which makes me really wanna hear this stuff in concert. When do the boys come back to the States?

Certain songs have grown on me like Night of Nights, Mystery, and Wings, but other than that nothing has changed. I did say awhile back that Show was my favorite track, but now I can't stand that f'ing song.

However, I need to kick my own ass because I'm singing the intro to the River "LA DA DA DA, LA DA DA DA DA". That's not cool!

Wings and Mystery in particular, live at The Fillmore, changed it all for me. It took me a while to get it, but SFBM is a beautiful, uplifting spiritual album.
