Episode 133 - Chad Taylor

This is a long episode. Over 2.5 hours. Chad Taylor sure likes to talk. Taylor did end up talking a bit about the cease and desist letter as well as about Ed Kowalczyk.

Chad has started a new band called "Chad Taylor's Mercy Revival". He actually posted a performance of Honest Man a couple of days ago on his Instagram account. I assumed it was Chad singing (though it didn't sound like him). It's actually an unnamed person.

Chad's new band recorded 20 tracks (number could be wrong) in one day. These include Live, TGF as well as original tracks. An album is in the works as well as a tour. Details are yet to be revealed.

Chad also mentioned that he is in control of Live's unreleased works as well as countless hours of recording sessions.

I’ve only listened to about half of it so far, but it’s still… something to hear. Especially knowing it’s yet another colored version of their story. But even so, it still gives you a new glimpse into what happened over the years and adds a few more puzzle pieces.

I had to laugh at the way Chad T said Ed showed up like, “the label wants me on the cover of SFBM.” And the way they talk about The River now — absolute gold. Back then we were all already thinking, “there’s no way CPP actually believes this is good, right?” and now it turns out they were thinking the same thing at the time.

I was a bit shocked hearing that already on day two of the Throwing Copper sessions they were saying only CT should still be taken seriously, and that CG and PD basically didn’t matter anymore — or did I misunderstand that? It really seems like things were never fully right in this band, even up through TDTH, and that does take a bit of the shine off how I’ve viewed them all these years. A big part of the 2016–2020 reunion also sounds pretty sad behind the scenes, if their stories are to be believed.

I also don’t get how Chad T was suddenly so surprised when he got the “master” CD of TDTH and realized “all his songs had disappeared” from the final product. Had he really been so detached that he didn’t see it coming? He does say he understands Ed’s reasoning and the choices he made to give the album a certain sound.

Chad is absolutely convinced The Turn will return someday… we’ll see. What I’d actually prefer is for them to put their energy into releasing (and where needed finishing/mastering) all those TDTH rarities.
