I wouldn't put Smashing Pumpkins in with Grunge, and I don't see how Ten is one of the best albums ever. Good debut though.

Yeah on second thoughts I spose the Pumpkins don't fit the aesthetic everone was on about.

Ten...just one of my favourites music.gif

Pearl Jam by far. The best live band of the bunch, and owners of some of the most "definitive" songs of the grunge era ("Black," "Jeremy," "Yellow Ledbetter," "Daughter," to name a few).

It doesn't hurt, either, that they are the only one of the bands you listed that is still around. Although the power of their music is most evident in their live show, their latest record proves that they can still make some fuckin amazing music.

I love all of the bands on the list, by the way. Anyone who wants to diss Nirvana should go listen to their MTV Unplugged performance -- better than any other Unplugged ever made, including Pearl Jam and, yes, Live.

Kurt Cobain stated quite a few times before his suicide that the band was going to be leaning more in the direction of the Unplugged performance on their future records -- more of an R.E.M.-ish sound, according to Kurt himself (he was a big fan and friend of Michael Stipe's). It's too bad he robbed of us a chance to hear what that would have sounded like.

Nirvana is for angry 10-13 year olds.

Hmm I believe I was 17/18 when 'Heart Shaped Box' found it's way on many a CD of mine.. While not angry, I was very, very high..
I'm honestly surprised I even remember who sang that song.

Dude - you know I love you to pieces, but are you kidding? There are about 800 times during that show where it sounds like the music is about to crumble and fall apart. The tempos die out, the notes don't sustain, Dave Grohl looked like he was asleep for 1/2 of it ...

All good choices but I have to go with Pearl Jam on this one. However, Scott Weiland is an unbelievable front man, saw him with STP and Velvet Revolver. He looks like a strung out noodle on stage. LOVE IT!

pearl jam? pearl jam? pearl jam? this the same band that released an incredible debut then curled up and died? eddie vedder is one human being that i would love to get my hands on. talk about the ULTIMATE communist dickhead. but regardless of my personal opinion, i will listen to music if it is good, but IMO they have been a joke since the goat album. i will allow that what little i have heard off the new album sounds good, but pearl jam? FFS

Try listening and/or watching it again, this time without being strung out on drugs AND/or alcohol.

About a Girl, Jesus Doesn't Want Me For a Sunbean, Where Did You Sleep Last Night, etc. are some of the most beautiful renditions of songs ever performed on the MTV Unplugged program.

The Nirvana performance was the absolute epitome of what MTV Unplugged should have been -- bands ditching the usual, ho-hum, tedious performance in favor of something daring, new, and beautiful.

I agree with you on everything except the communist dickhead part.

Wrong. They are complete communist dickheads and it is extremely obvious in their music. Anyone with any sense of music could see that.
