On Friday, WaiteratCliftons suggested we bring back the old Live "Song of the Day" threads since we've had an influx of noobs and it might be interesting to discuss each song again on the new board.

So I'm going to tentatively start the threads again and see if there is any interest in them. If so, feel free to post ANYTHING you want related to the current song of the day -- interpretations, memories of the first time you heard the song on album and/or in concert, questions, comments, media files, or anything else you wish. If not, hold your tongue and I'll happily stop posting new songs. surrender.gif

By the way, I'll be RANDOMLY choosing a new song every day (basically whichever song pops up first on my iPod, which is always set to random).

So the Live Song of the Day #1 is: Shit Towne.

Discuss.

well, when i fist got throwing copper, it was really just for lightening crashes...
but i bought it on cassette, which is obviously a lot harder to skip around to other songs.

so i'd try to speed up to lc, and would hear the end of iris. so that grew on me until i started to speed the tape listen to the whole song. same for top. and i listened to more and more of the first side of the tape until i would just play it all the way through -- the dam at otter creek - all over you.

after a while, i decided to give side two of the cassette a try... which started with shit towne. and man, was that song an awesome surprise. i just remember the raw energy in every facet of the band. ed's voice, everyone's guitars, chad's drumming... it was such a solid performance.

obviously, it wasn't long before i was playing the entire tape, both sides.

I was hoping to hear "Shit Towne" at the L.A. show on May 24th, but unfortunately the guys didn't play it. It became one of my concert favorites after I heard it the first time live. I really like how the band extends (for a few seconds) the part where Ed sings, "The mailman visits each of us in time"; the few times I have heard it in concert, Gracey threw in a couple extra beats after that line, and Ed stretched it out to "time - time - time." Does anyone know what I'm talking about? And did they continue to play it that way during this tour? (I noticed it came up in setlists a few times...)

This is one of my favorite songs! It reminds me of my childhood.

My favorite lines are

the crackheads live down the street from me....the tall grass makes it hard to see beyond our property. Gotta live gotta live gotta live

This is one of Live's best songs ever!

I love this song. It's one of my favorites too. I don't think I've ever seen it in concert though.

"We don't bother anyone, we keep to ourselves, the mailman visits each of us in time"... guitar.gif

I'll always love Shit Towne! You have to bounce to it...just before the ..."gotta live, gotta live, gotta live...in SHIT TOWNE!!!" yay.gif

My biggest memory was at Musikfest in Bethlehem, 3 years ago on my birthday. During the entire concert a guy was screaming "SHIT TOWNE!!!!!!!!!!!!" I can't even remember if they played it...I don't think they did. LOL!!

Glad these threads are back!! Keep it going.

Shit Towne is definitely one of my favorite Live songs...it was absolutely awesome when they did it at the NYC show on May 11th. I think it was toward the very end of the set, and it kinda provided an amazing last rush of energy before the balladry of Dance With You, which closed the set. It was a highlight of the show, for me. Overall, Shit Towne kicks my ass.

shit towne...haven't we all been there at one time?

Back when I used to go to a lot of Live shows, they used to play this song all the time, eevry single night, and I got quite bored of it. That being said, it is one of my faves off of TC, maybe a close second to Waitress which I have always loved.

Hey, question, edstipe: Do you count all the b-sides / rarities / non-album stuff? (Born Branded, Cheetah, Susquehanna, The Beacon, Depper, Still Aroused, etc.) Because you should -- there'sa lot of good stuff that never made the albums.

By the way, I don't exactly remember whether they extended that "time" part of the song at the NYC show, but all I remember is the song kicking major ass.

This is a real rocker of a song. My favorite part is the bridge.

Is this song to be taken literally as it is? Does it mean Ed isn't very fond of his hometown?

I think this song shows their personality and sense of humor.

And that Ed can play a good guitar solo guitar.gif

Great song to start with. I think "Shit Towne" is a song most everyone can relate too. It doesn't matter if you live in the most exotic place in the world after awhile you become bored of your surroundings and it just turns into this every day repetitive shit town.

I remember when I got TC I was like 13 maybe 14...I was worried my parents would throw it out if they saw the cd case haha.

Also "Shit Towne" never seems to get old in concert. I remember the York Fair show when Ed said he would never play this song again in York if......" I can't remember how it went something about putting a big Live mural in downtown York. Great stuff.

Well back to my life in my "Shit Towne".

"Gotta live, gotta live, gotta live in our town."
