When i first bought BOP i loved it. I'm not as keen on it now but i still think its better than V. Atleast lyrically. In all these posts about favorite albums i've noticed BOP near the bottom.

Why do ya'll dislike it?

i think you'll find that if you observe the live community over a long enough timeline, you will realize that there are SOOO many different opinions on pretty much everything regarding the band.

i personally dig BOP

i mean, in my humble opinion, Sanctity of Dreams, Run Away, and Bring the People Together are three of the absolute WORST songs live have ever put together.

but then again, She and Lighthouse are two of the absolute very BEST.

and Out to Dry is one of the best surprises the band ever put out. before that song, i never would have imagined myself enjoying any song that was even close to being 'country'.

Tracks 5-11 are really fun to listen to consecutively.

Oh, and the only annoying thing about Heaven is the 'daughter' lyric. in a song that's done by what's supposed to be a rock band?? no, thank you.

In any case, there are plenty of people who like BOP. most just aren't very vocal about it.

i like it, but not nearly as well as their other stuff. it actually took me a while to get into it. i think the songs CT helped write on it are the best. i also think ed is doing way too much of the writing now. i say get the rest of the band more involved and turn up the rock factor!

I absolutely love Birds Of Pray. Those are some of the most rocking and introspective love songs ever. Lighthouse absolutely rules.

I'm not crazy about Bring The People Together and What Are We Fighting For? They seem to have been added on because of the war, and they don't fit with the rest of the album. I delete those two. I do appreciate the sentiment though. I'm as against the wars as much as anybody. Don't even get me started on that!

Oh, I like the DVD too. thumbsup.gif

The album has no identity. Pop in any of their other albums and each track has a sound that jumps out at you as being a part of that album, but BOP seems like a random collection of uninspired, completely generic songs. SFBM may be just as simple and perhaps even more pop, but at least it has a unique sound.

BOP was, sadly, the first Live ablum I heard. Sad not because it's a bad album, but because it took me so long to find Live. I love Heaven, especially the opening couple lines...for some reason when I heard it for the first time, Ed's voice stood out and sounded really cool/different.

Sanctity of Dreams and BTPT are the only songs I really, really don't like. I actually like WAWFF... nod.gif

Overall, it's probably a notch below SS, TC, and TDTH, right beside MJ and V.

I love BOP. I'm sure you'll here plenty of bitching from the 1995 Throwinn Copper greatest album fans, we always do on this board. Some people don't want change, they want all I Alone's or White discussions on the albums. Anything that sounds soft or pop is weak. We need Lakinis Juice on every song. Give me a break. BOP and SFBM is different and progressive IMOP, and good for them. Don't settle for the 90's alternative rock band, those fans will hopefully stop going to shows shouting for all TC songs.

I love BOP - I think it's a great album and did from the moment I heard it. I'd put it as my 4th favourite Live album and not far behind TC, SS and TDTH.

so you dont like Horse?

ahh, i can't believe i forgot about horse. i enjoy the song, but then again, i've always enjoyed throwing copper to such an extent, that i wonder if i cut some of the songs any slack. believe it or not, i wasn't very impressed with i alone when i first heard it, but now i like it for the mere fact that it reminds me of the time in my life when i first discoverd this band and their amazing music.

horse is cool. but i like 'out to dry' a lot more. i've probably sought out to listen to horse less than five times. i of course have heard it a lot after the whole cd ran, but seeking it out... skipping directly to that song, that's a different story.

out to dry, on the other hand, i purposely have listened to that one often.

When listening to BOP, I somehow feel that the band was not very confident. It was like they were trying to deliberately steer away from the gung-ho album that was V.

That said, I like BOP better than V, and I can manage to listen to it from start to finish, without skipping tracks (like I do when listening to V).

I'm quite tired of hearing the argument that people who don't like BOP and V don't like change. MJ, TC, SS, and even TDTH all rocked in 4 different astounding ways.

If I may describe each, MJ was raw and basic in a charming way. TC was in-your-face. SS was slow and dark, while TDTH was profound and intense. I can't see how one can like these 4 without being open to change.

Sanctity of Dreams, Life Marches On, Bring the People Together, WAWFF all seem like filler tracks to me.

Heaven and Run Away are consistently good to me. I have to be in the mood to listen to the others.

Still a better album overall than V, imo.

I couldn't name my favourite or least favourite Live albums for the simple reason that all of their albums have songs that I love and songs that I dislike very much. But emotionally, BoP has been the most important album to me. When I bought it few months after it's release, most of the songs just fit perfectly into my situation in life then. Not necessarily based on lyrics, but the sounds and rhythms, the feeling it gives out.

Having said that, I'm still not blind to the weak points on this album, but rather think that even though different from the past, this album was a positive way for Live to evolve. It has many killer tracks that I would've loved to hear live, and overall it has a strong and calming feeling to it.

It wouldn't be natural for a band with such a long history to remain in the past, putting 7, or 17, alike albums out. You can have 7 albums like TC's if you wish, just get 7 copies of it.. Every band makes some mistakes on albums, but they either fall from them, or become renewed and stronger, like I think Live has.
