I'm kinda expecting a BOP sound but some goodies on tour that brings us back to vintage LIVE!

A BOP sound would be a disappointing step down after TGF and [Album Redacted].

I would think it should be better than BOP anyway, because back then things were taking a turn for the worse and CCP weren't fully engaged like they should be this time.

Musically I'm expecting good things. It's the other stuff I'm worried about.

Musically I think it should be good. I mean, when you look at Siren's Call and By Design .. those are actually interesting musical pieces even without Chris making them amazing. There's nothing musically interesting on Ed's solo albums and nothing on SFBM. The closest to interesting music from Live has been perhaps Like I Do, or maybe Purifier at a stretch. But Ed's influence is the key factor. Look at what two different vocalists/lyricists did with the same music which was Believe/Honest Man.

Looks like Ed's solo album #3 material will in some way become LIVE material now!

that is worst case scenario!

They need to do what was done with Star Wars. George Lucas was a revered and respected genius who defined a generation with his original trilogy. Then the prequels came along and made him and the entire saga into an embarrassing laughing stock.

Cut to 10 or 15 years later and it was decided by the producers to listen to the hardcore fan base and go back to what made the material so loved to begin with. Similar themes and tone, greater focus on practical effects over CGI, and a more adult orientated story and characters. The result was overwhelmingly positive and successful (perhaps a lack of originality being the only drawback but after such a skull-fucking of the material they needed to go a bit safe for the first film) and the series is back to its former glory and people are happy, more or less.

I wonder if Live are trying to go in this direction. Actually going back to try and recapture that magic that they once delivered. We've seen CCP have already done this and being capable of "doing things like they used to be done" to paraphrase, so maybe Ed can too. I know this can be taken as not being original and re-treading the past (George lucas called the force awakens a retro movie), but I think it's more about an attitude to the music or approach, rather than trying to sound or be just like they were before. Ed might approach the music with the intention of being a little more mysterious and interesting with the lyric, even if his 12 year olds won't be able to decipher the message instantly, which it seems to have been his style since he became a father.

I hope CCP haven't just said, "fuck it, we can make more money with Ed, yeh let him bring his han solo material to Live"...

Not necessarily; part of the "deal" could very well be that Ed is still allowed to pursue his Jesus music as a solo artist. The reunion could be happening knowing that Ed #3 will still be released.

Hopefully its better than #2, pun fully intended.

My hope is that touring Throwing Copper cover to cover for a couple years inspired Ed to try and recapture some of that style. I can't imagine we'll see anything close to the early days, but I'm hopeful for something with a little more edge to it.

Some of his performances were fine during this tour. He needs to add depth toma song like TDAOC, but strangely I saw some good footage of Stage. So he still can sing. But how will he do it?

He definitely can still sing. His voice has aged a lot better than many of his contemporaries and I thought the Pinkpop performance of TC was pretty darn good. He'd definitely not his younger self... But neither is Shinn.

But my point is more that singing stuff like Stage, Shit Towne, Otter Creek, White Discussion, etc. day in and day out my hopefully inspire him to try to write in that vein again. It may even that tour that lead him back to Live in the first place.
