With the Olympics recently over I was wondering how people from other countries view the event.

Here in the US NBC has tons of coverage. I always say I'm not watching any of it and I always find myself catching a rowing match or a game of beach volleyball.

I really had little interest, it's a whole bunch of sports that I never really follow, so I find it hard to pretend I care about them once every 4 years. Australia had a shocking Olympics though, mostly with a real love of finding bronze and silver. There were bits and pieces I enjoyed, but the coverage here made it hard to really get into. Channel 9 who had the free to air TV rights here this year did an abysmal job, any time you began getting into something, they'd just switch to something else, seemingly having ADD when it came to covering events. The one thing I did find myself getting into a bit was the basketball and they just had a nasty habit of disrupting games when they were getting good to go to some rowing event or something where Australia would be coming second last but the commentators would be screaming like we were about to beat the world record by 8000 minutes or something. Not to mention the commentary we got was just deplorable here also. Seemed like a poor effort all round.

What the Olympics were really about for me was spotting the hot female athletes, now that is a sport I can win a gold medal at for the next games nod.gif

Aired around the clock on several channels.

Never took a look.

The best part of the Olympics was that there was always something on.

Foxtel (cable TV in Australia) had 8 channels available so there was a good choice of sports to watch. The lucky people of the UK had 24 channels (one channel per event) but I was able to stream these online via an app (720p 3Mbit/sec streams) via my PC --> TV so the choice was endless.

Though after the 2 weeks it does wear you down... My highlights were the football, archery, mountain bike riding, synchronised swimming and canoe slalom. Stuff you don't usually sit down to watch...

I suppose I'm in the minority. I was all into the swimming and sprinting events. I paid a little attention to the gymnastics, but I'm not really into that stuff too much unless it's the high flying stuff on the uneven bars.
