Btw, I believe Maynard isn't even that involved in the writing process of the album... might be wrong though

No, you're right. The band writes most of the music without maynard present, and then maynard adds the vocals to that afterwards. That's how it's been with lateralus and 10,000 days, at least. He was a bit more involved before then. It's pretty cool to listen to a lot of their songs knowing that the music was written entirely in and of itself. As much as I like maynard, it's cool to think about the music being written for itself.

interesting....and for as little of the art of writing music I know, I like the idea of the music coming first.

in comparison to what gracey said in the most recent podcast, he doesnt pay much attention to the lyrics that ed writes or sings, just the melodies. and that last bit was a huge paraphrase and is imo indictive of why i dont care for their latest work.

and for those who want to shred my thoughts in regards to whether or not i am a fan, I am a fan in my heart and mind and that is all that matters. I enjoy reading the various opinions and even the flaming, but I TRULY HATE IT when others berate posters for their lack of being a TRUE fan, whatever the fuck that is.
