Our take: Live should come together
Updated: 08/02/2012 08:10:07 AM EDT

Members of the band Live performed their first show in about three years on March 12 at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center. (Chris Dunn)
How sad it was to read recently that the members of the rock group Live are embroiled in litigation.

Action Front Unlimited, a corporation formed by the four original band members and which owns the band's trademarks, filed suit against former front man Ed Kowalczyk, claiming he is misleading fans by branding himself as "Ed Kowalczyk of Live."

Well, he is Ed Kowalczyk. He was in Live. He was the lead singer and a major songwriter for the group.

Whether promoting himself as such now violates the terms of contracts or business agreements among the members will have to be determined in court.

But what a shame it has come to that.

This is the second suit against Kowalczyk. A 2010 suit by the three other original band members - still unsettled - claims he owes them money from an advance and royalties.

It's just disheartening to see childhood friends who achieved the greatness of a classic album like "Throwing Copper" bickering and suing.

Original band members Chad Gracey, Patrick Dahlheimer and Chad Taylor, are doing good things in York with development projects - and still continuing Live with a new lead singer.

It would be so great to see them reunite with Mr. Kowalczyk who, let's be honest, was a huge part of the band's success.

They're much better together than apart and feuding.

Unfortunately the writer does not know the entire story, nor is the writer brave enough to put their name on the piece.

I think this post of Nick's should be merged into the other thread he started since it's pretty much the same topic.

JMHO.

They are much better together? I assume he didn't listen to SFBM.

The 1,200 fans rocking out at the Strand didn't agree with this guy.

You actually don't know the exact quotes in any statement of the article. To take any of it as basis of fact is ridiculously short sighted. I posted the article because it would start discussion, but I don't attest for its accuracy.

What's the point of posting this? It was Nick that made the call that no one knows the whole story, OTD corrected him that some people know more than others ... it's just a fact.

Speaking of which, Nick doesn't like Live without Ed, we get it. Congrats.

The writer of this story is either naive or a friend of Ed's who is trying to help him double down on his quote in that stroy that was posted yesterday. If Live is better with Ed, then how do you account for BoP, SFBM and Alive, and how can you even make that statement without even hearing or seeing Live with Chris Shinn. I don't think that I am going out on a limb here when I say that Live's upcoming album will be better than anything that Live could do with Ed today or has done in the last 10 years.

Ed sucks at music. There's no other way to put it. He was good at one time, but that was over 10 years ago. He used to be inspired, now he's just singing shitty christian junk. Even in interviews you can get the feeling that he's faking it.

Point is, Ed is a horrible musician and human being and he's better off sucking god's dick than messing with Live again. Fuck Ed and fuck his shitty music.

So why fucking post it? What does anyone here care about someone's opinion who knows even less about the band and situation than we all do? This is about as credible as me getting my neighbour's cat's opinion and posting it in a thread. You seem to think that because it's someone on a website that somehow this holds more weight than anyone else's opinion? You just come off looking desperate posting anything you can possibly get your hands on which mentions Ed in a positive light because somehow this validates your own opinion.
We all know how you feel, and we don't care. Fuck off.
