And yes, this is Live-related because Live is one of the bands in this bracket.

Get ready for some teeth grinders...

Btw, the video for the RHCP was mistakenly posted as the video for Stone Temple Pilots. There's actually a few screw ups with the videos.

That was fun! The only gripe I have is that a couple of the bands (namely U2) had major success before the '90s, so including them isn't really fair.

There are some very unfair fights in there. smile.gif

lol That's why I included videos. I knew some of those bands wouldn't be well-known, but this was also about just spreading music I've heard/been a fan of. I mean, I don't expect King's X, Primus, The Presidents, or Hum to win at all... but maybe some people might dig their music or even think back and say "damn, i haven't thought about that band in a LONG time..."

But... I just had to be a dumb ass and screw up and post the wrong videos for STP and Stabbing Westward. Now the whole poll feels like a failure. facepalm.gif

If I'd gotten those videos right they would've been these:

Hum was amazing. Definitely one of the best bands on the 90s. Here are some more of my favorites:

Nirvana
Archers of Loaf
Helmet
Sunny Day Real Estate
June of 44
The Jesus Lizard
Pearl Jam
Quicksand
Deftones

The last quarter of the bracket has some serious heavyweights.

I know Presidents. But some of those bands are really local-local-local. on the other hand I discovered 7Mary3 about a week ago. Funny enough.

with the exception of King's X, all of those bands in the bracket were really mainstream and had a ton of radio play. I'm surprised that folks wouldn't be familiar with them. I suppose if you were too young during the decade then some might be unheard of, but these bands were pretty much staples of modern rock / alternative radio stations during the 90s, at least in the USA.

I think it depended on your geographic location. Bands like Hum, Failure, Cracker, and King's X got little to no radio play where I live. In fact I don't think I ever heard Cracker, and I know I never heard King's X, on the radio. I found out about Cracker through this compilation cd that they were giving away or selling at Taco Bell. Remember the "Do Something" cd? Their song Low was on that.

Look at the flag under my avatar.

Do you know what country it belongs to?

If not, let me tell you one thing: it is Russia. Everything mainstream in the US was so rare in Russia, that you can hardly imagine. When I was 13, I went to my first good grunge fest. There were about 200 people there, moshing with the bands, stagediving, crowdsurfing etc. Those were the days. I saw a lot of people in great tshirts that said Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains. T'was 1996. Since then I tried to find some pirate tapes with Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. They have been my fave bands eversince.

But any of those bands whch got a ton of radioplay over in the US or even Europe... well, some of those still say nothing to me. You can not imagine how much I fought to get through to the music I liked. But the victory is won. If I have not, I would have not been here, making friends with the guys from different places all over the world, crying when my fave band gets together again. No. I would have been spinning some Backstreet Boys Cd I bought at school and be happy

yes, I know what the flag is. smile.gif It stinks that the music was so limited there. I am sure it is much easier now with digital music being more prevalent.

That said, though it is obviously hard or was hard to get much music selection in some countries, calling those bands "local" is a bit of a stretch. They had huge popularity in places.

At any rate, I hope you are able to find good music these days rockin.gif

Whatever locality they had back then, they're certainly not local anymore. Nothing is, really. Take the the opportunity to get acquainted with some of those bands. You might like them. thumbsup.gif
