i still hold out hope for the guy. If he took a minute to see what old school live fans thought of his album, he'll realise that we all thought Zion was a superb reminder of days gone by, and will have promptly written this new album with that in mind. He still has it it would seem, just a matter of avoiding his pathological tendency to indulge in poppy cheese!

I don't know if Ed will release an actual album, he just said music. I guess we will have to wait and see as it unfolds.

yesterday on the treadmill, my ipod shuffled STD from TC, immediately followed by STD from Paradiso, following by Stand from Alive. Individually, I like all of those recordings.

hearing the difference between TC and Paradiso was shocking. I've heard it talked about, and of course I've noticed it, but there have only been a few other times I've heard things back to back, and I think because I wasn't expecting it... holy smokes. And then to have it followed by an incredibly pop song from Alive!

it made a few things happen inside my brain. the only one that pertains to this thread is this thought:

I hope that Ed's soph solo effort (ignoring SFBM as probably his first real solo effort) comes on as strong as Live's soph effort did. not that I think Ed is capable of creating another TC - that's not a feat likely to be repeated.
But I'm hoping, fingers crossed, that he will find his balls and his big boy voice and create something I wouldn't be embarrassed to get caught listening to.

He's not angry, that's ok, he doesn't have to be to make good music. But like Wam said, Zion has given me hope. That song is awesome. If he can create something that comes from the same place Zion came from...
well. fingers crossed!

whatever Ed has done and how deep he may sink, the fact he records something new with the very same voice that once (very long, long, long ago) was used on TC and SS, is always good news. Too bad most of the times it ends up in disapointment, but a man that created songs like Ed did, will always have something special.

Hmm yeah. Zion is very decent. But that song was written in 2009, in a period he was still with Live (it was even meant as a Live song), and I'm just a little scared he has already changed too much from that moment. The whole Alive world tour and the things he told since, give me the impression that he really thinks the Daugtry-esque music is the way too go.
But maybe I'm wrong and new Live will inspire him to do his f*cking best this time, and rocks every single new song he'll write. well. my fingers are crossed too

I agree with you. I think his music has been disappointing. But there is always hope that the next thing he does will be great. And it would be more disappointing to me if Ed stopped recording his voice altogether, because I do love the way his voice sounds, even if I don't necessarily like the music and lyrics to which it is applied. I won't run out and automatically buy his next album as I have in the past, but I would be thrilled if I come to learn that it rocks and sounds amazing. Then I would probably buy it and listen to it, trying not to think about all the things about Ed that I don't like. Sound confusing? That's because it is. I guess I haven't come to terms about my thoughts and feelings about Ed.

Let's see if he's got the balls......he certainly is saying so much with the working title of his new song. "I Am the Truth" ....more about 'I' again.....its funny, some here heard that song but we don't get any info.....the cult is closed.
