Morrissey bans Morrissey-solo.com owner davidt from concerts for life
by
Published on July 13, 2011 04:38 PM

Morrissey has taken extraordinary action against the owner of a fan website by banning him for life from the singer's concerts.

The former The Smiths frontman declared war on Morrissey-solo.com after owner David Tseng refused to prevent members from discussing the star's private life or criticizing his career moves.

The singer stepped up his campaign against the forum last month by taking to the stage during a show in England wearing a T-shirt printed with the words: "F**k Morrissey-solo.com".

Tseng was shocked when Morrissey's security guards ejected him from a concert in Copenhagen, Denmark on Monday - and now it's emerged the Suedehead hitmaker has banned Tseng from all of his gigs because of his "poisonous" website.

A spokeswoman for the Morrissey tour tells WENN, "Mr Tseng via his poisonous website has caused so much intentional distress to Morrissey and Morrissey's band over the years that Mr Tseng is not welcome at any Morrissey shows."

Pokey: you're a fan of this nut job... Do you know the history behind this story? Do you post on the morrissey-solo.com forum?

I guess I can come out of fansofLIVE semi-retirement to throw my 2 cents in.

Yeah I post there, but the place is a mess. It's simultaneously very strict and also more lax than here. The mod bans people on a whim and let's other much worse things slide. The mod is not David Tseng though.

Story goes DavidT was in the Morrissey good books for years, he basically had the only Morrissey site online in the wilderness years of 97-04 when he had no record deal and kept the spirit alive online. He gained personal thanks from Moz for that. he was even credited on an album as a thankyou, then allowed to be an official gig photographer for a time - think a Jimmy Lang style role.
Then over the past few years he's been quick to post any rumors as "news" for some reason. There's a lot of Moz-hate on the board (think along the lines of Ed Kowalczyk here but more intense). Morrissey is a bit of a diva and began taking notice of this and publicly denounced the website. But what really kicked things off was DavidT somehow getting ahold of private emails between Moz and his manager and he posted them online as news. He was quickly approached by Morrissey's lawyers and they were removed. He also seemed to foster and push any articles he could about Morrissey's alleged racism (which in itself is complete rubbish and Morrissey just recently win a court case against the NME when it was found out they edited an interview with him to make him sound racist). DavidT also was found to have started a rumor that Moz wasn't paying certain people in his touring party. This was met with more lawyers and public lashing by the people who were supposedly not paid saying it was complete nonsense.

The way it's written in most articles is Moz just chucked a hissy fit over forum users being allowed to bad mouth him but it went a lot deeper than that. There's definetly some personal issues going on.
Some people applaud him for it and others hate him for it.
Personally I know he can be a diva, banning the guy is an extreme step but you can't say it was for no real reason or that DavidT is the totally innocent party. It's pretty harsh, but that's Moz, he can be beautiful and he can be brutal. I have stayed totally out of the politics there, for all my love of his music I don't really get invested in his private affairs that get flaunted. His extreme and somewhat misguided views on vegetarianism and such.

Just a whole lot of drama and all I want is a new album. Reminds me of another place and group I know! uhoh.gif

Thanks for the background info. There's always 2 sides to the story and I can see why Morrissey doesn't like the guy but to have him dragged out of a concert is pretty petty. Maybe he can get away with that sort of thing in Denmark but there would be lawyers lining up around the corner if he tried that in the USA.

Not so sure. I would categorize it under the same light as any stage performer getting a heckler thrown out of their performance.

Not 100% sure but I think DavidT lives in America, or at least did live in America, so with there being a current US tour I remember someone posting something on the forums stirring it up about it being shit about to go down, but then heard nothing more about it.

I was more curious as to exactly how you police this kind of thing. If someone else bought the ticket for him so his name isn't linked to it, wear a cap, grow a goatee or whatever. Would there actually be a spotter at the door for every gig just on the look out for him? From what I recall in Denmark DavidT publicly announced he was going to the show, which is a fair tip-off.

As I say, all I want is new music from him, and new music from Live and or TGF. So I think with saying that I'm gonna crawl back into my hidey-hole for awhile, I can't do the arguing over ridiculous stuff anymore and all I was doing was helping fan the flames so hopefully we get something soon! Not, "soon".

There's actually some video him this happening to him recently, someone yelling abuse at him the whole night when he ends up turning on the house lights and having the guy ejected to massive applause. The best line was when the guy tried back peddling and saying "But I love you, I love you!" to which it got the response "Well you can still love my outside".

Was the guy heckling at the actual show? If not, I don't see it as being the same thing. I'm hoping that the guy got a refund either way.

If you go to an show you shouldn't be heckling, just stay home - unless the show is a totally poor performance (maybe something like the singer is drunk and slurring) and your ticket deserves a refund.
