I'm a bit frustrated by the need for instant gratification when it comes to music. I feel at times like the fans would prefer a fast food menu rather than a five-star meal from scratch. Conversely, I strive to not over think or overproduce my efforts (it's a delicate balance). The information and interactivity of social media can often times get ahead of an artists actual ability to produce new, relevant material. Somehow, the actual time and energy it takes to write a song, record an album or tour the globe is lost in the convenience of instant communication. So sure, I'm always excited to share with you the various projects and artistic endeavors I am working on. This doesn't mean that they're ready for public consumption. Just like in a five-star restaurant, it's best to start with drinks and appetizers. You can't simply walk in and sit down, expecting the main course to be delivered. I am hopeful that you will remain patient and faithful as it's going to take some time to realize the vision I have for this sonic repast. - CT

Rarely does a five star restaurant have a glass wall between you and the kitchen, but at McDonalds, you can look past the cashier and see the burgers on the grill in a puddle of grease. Social media is such a glass wall. Not conducive to the process of a 5 star restaurant.

While I agree with CT and see where he is coming from I must say that at this point I am starving and it won't be long until I die of hunger.

Hilareous post.

Let's continue the metaphor. The five star restaurant was a five star restaurant 20 years ago. You made some great memories there. Special occasions and so forth. Then it went through a decade-long period of serving terrible food. It went under new management. People stopped coming there to eat. Then it closed down. Now it has reopened with the original management. The original management has invited you in to the restaurant and asked you to sit down. They tell you it will be as good as it was 20 years ago. It will soon be your favorite restaurant again. Then they began cooking in the kitchen. They offer you only a basket of bread and water. You wait over 2 hours for service. But it hasn't come. Instead, the chef just keeps yelling out to you from the kitchen behind a closed door about great these entrees are going to be when you get them. And he occasionally walks out of the kitchen and waves small, unrecognizable morsels of delectable food under your nose. Your mouth is watering. Your stomach is grumbling. But still no dinner. How long do you wait at the table before you complain about the service and the lack of food? It is almost midnight. Dinner time has come and gone. Your just being teased. The only reason you stayed was because this was your favorite restaurant 20 years ago and you want to make new memories. Does the chef not understand why the patrons should complain about the lack of food? I agree with Word Dreamer. I hope we don't all starve to death before we get served.

Chad should realize this.

Ok, now that we've gotten the whole "blowing the metaphor up into king sized irrelevance" thing out of our system...

No one is starving from lack of music, bro. And we've all got the choice to come back for the music when it comes out. Let's not forget that Live used to take a little longer than bands typically did between releasing albums anyway. The time between MJ and TC was three years. The time between TC and SS was three years. Time started shortening after Ed started writing most of the material himself. Time between SS and TDTH was two years, TDTH - V was two years, V - BOP was two years. Keep that in mind. Quality is worth the wait.

Btw... it's a beautiful, sunny day where I'm at.

I bet if I went to a 5 Star Restaurant and asked who the new head chef was, they would just tell me rather than serving me food that he may or may not have cooked and leaving it up to me to guess whether its the original chef or a new chef who cooks very similar to the old one.

And I bet that when the new music comes out with the new singer and it's awesome... that no one will even remember this restaurant metaphor.

At this point I don't care who the new singer is...no reason to care until we've actually heard him and can determine whether the music is awesome. My point is, I get that things take time, but if in fact the video clip posted is a new singer, just tell us. If its Ed, just say its Ed.

The argument about whether things are ready for "public consumption" ends when you release them to the public. In posting the video clip, the material was offered for public consumption.

So just say who the damn singer is and then take all the time you need to write and record the next album.

Sometimes, a metaphor or a parable or whatever is the best way to make a point. This is Chad's metaphor, not mine. But Chad used the metaphor to state that the fans are over anxious because this is 5 star cooking that they are whipping us for us. I tried to extend the metaphor to demonstrate that what Live is doing to the fans has created justifiable complaints. And no, none of us are literally starving. But I would like my favorite restaurant to give me a good reason not to get up and leave and go to a different restaurant. Sure, I had lunch at Chris Cornell's restaurant. This isn't the only place I eat. I am looking for a reason not to become one of Lady Gaga's little monsters instead of a Freak 4 Live...

If this was a restaurant all these responses would be ridiculous. The restaurant isn't even open. They've announced it will be reopening and given us a few tidbits of info about what to expect. Now everyone is banging on the front door 24/7 demanding to know who the chef is or they won't come back when they open.

I might add that there were actually 4 chefs that came up with the menu and although there may have been a head chef, all 4 of them worked together to create the great food that the restaurant originally put out. Now they are trying to find another head chef that can work together with the team to cook the original food as it was first created and create new food inspired by the original menu. If this actually was a restaurant I'd be excited and patient enough to stand by as they worked behind the scenes.

I'm afraid you can't even get a reservation at this restaurant. They wouldn't let you in the door. When this restaurant opens, you will have your face pressed against the glass wishing you could get in. Or more likely, you will be picketing on the street out front.
