Howzit... Long time lurker (actually since the 'hiatus'...) and enjoying your posts a lot. Would like your opinion...at the time of Live at the Paradiso, was the magic gone already? Or only later? I saw Live 'live' on 15 and 16 June 2000, and each gig thereafter in Johannesburg...but I really think Live at the Paradiso captured the energy...unless they (ed?) were acting?

That show(s) sucked. There are so many bootlegs out there where the shows are way better.

It definately sounded like SFBM era Live.

Howsit... bout time we had another SA person out here on the boards!

Recently, in response to an open letter sent by us to Chad Taylor, he mentioned something along the lines of Paradiso managing to capture LIVE's energy and all the positive stuff that summed up the good times.

I have to agree with Hoody here, there are definitely much much better bootlegs or pro-recorded performances out there than Paradiso! Search thru the multimedia section to find many of them! For the rest, check on YouTube... some gems uploaded there.

Finally, welcome to the boards!

Yes I read the reply from Chad...and referring to him specifically, I remember a few times during the show where he was standing there with a big fat smile, seemingly really enjoying himself, something that was missing from shows nearer to the 'end' (from what I read here, never actually seen footage of later shows and obviously couldn't attend any). Maybe 'energy' was the wrong word to use... shrug.gif

Live shows were full of energy and awesomeness until the very end (maybe apart from a few very last shows that took place after the Pinkpop-incident).

There's no doubt Live pre-2003 was still better. Especially to a better Ed. But LatP 2008 was still damn good (IWTL for example was without a doubt the best performance I heard of the - many - recordings I have). And Ed's voice was maybe not used like in the 90ies, but his voice that night was really in top-condition. I doubt the energy that C, C and P brought in LatP was less then (let's say) a 1995 show.

Video-technical LatP is one of my favorite concert DVD's I have (and not because it's Live, ofcourse).

I liked some of the things Ed did with his voice better in earlier Walk the Line versions than the Paradiso version. I think the very first recording of it is one where in the chorus he is screaming but his voice just doesn't crack at all. It's rare when he gets high and holds a note, but when he does its pretty cool. He obviously just seems to think he can do it all the time.

When they did Walk the Line in Melbourne in 2004 I think he used some of his voice that sounds like the part in She when he gets down low and sings "I never knew, I never knew", Ed singing deep is the way Ed should sing. But the Paradiso version is one of the better songs from the Paradiso recording.

This might have been asked when Paradiso was released but:

1) Why are there songs not on the CD that are on the DVD?
2) Are there songs that were performed that weren't on either?

I thought Paradiso had some great moments and some moments where you go do the dishes or something (Wings).

I wish they started the show with something else. If you take the top 16 songs they have I don't think you would find Simple Creed anywhere close. I know it is a faster song and all that but play Stage or something.

Simple Creed should be the first song they ever play in any concert anywhere - everytime.

I guess a CD is limited to 80 minutes, while you can fit more on a DVD.

Yep. I can't remember what the songs were but according to some people at the show Ed messed up the lyrics and that might have been a reason why at least one of the tracks was omitted.

Edit: More info can be found here re: tracklisting.

Disagree 100%. I've seen them plenty of times but the 2 best openers were the TC tour and the SS tour. Dam at Otter Creek was a killer opener, and Rattlesnake was another killer opener.

Dam at Otter Creek is a good opener. Not a huge fan of starting out with Rattlesnake. I just don't think it offers the punch in your face that you need to open a show.

The last show I saw Live perform they opened up with SC and it got everyone's attention, even those who were not there to see Live.

There's only one big difference between Rattlesnake and Simple Creed. One of them is actually a good song, the other has a total abortion of lyrics.

Rattlesnake was the perfect opener, because it was the slow increasing build, which paved the way for them to take it up a notch with Lakini's Juice as the 2nd song of the set.

That worked in 1997. This is 2011. Rattlesnake just doesn't have that effect when it's followed up by Mystery.

You need a kick in the face before Ed starts excersizing his falsetto.

That's the point, don't play shit music like Mystery. Don't lower the bar. Simple Creed just lowers the bar. It's a shit song, seriously, Puppy Scruff?! It's complete crap.

Rattlesnake is a great building song, has some great guitar parts, and it builds for the eruption that is Lakini's Juice.

Yeah it is 2011, Live is no more.
