A place to actually discuss the new recording, since it's the first actual recording of new Live we've heard. Obviously, I really have no power to enforce the non-argumentative part, but I hope folks will oblige as the actual musical discussion is non-existent in the other thread.

I am excited about how great the band sounds, what a ballsy rehearsal! New lead singer sounds great, sounds like Chris to me. I think it'd be nice for him to dial back the Ed-mulation a little (I know others don't hear it/care/agree but I hear it mainly on the verses), but I think it's undeniable that he can carry the songs and do them well enough to make the songs enjoyable in a live content.

What it is really going to ride on is the new material. This recording for me shows that the new lead singer can do what's needed to perform the old songs, but will the new songs be good? That's really the only unknown for me right now. As I've said before, I'm not crazy about hearing the old stuff, but it's a necessary thing and I think it'll do.

The intention is to sing the old songs with the old time passion. Then embark on a series of new songs.
I am liking what we've heard with AOY and can't wait to hear the other re-records.

It doesn't sound like the shinn guy to me but then again, i have only heard a couple of his songs. I should probably listen to more.

You definitely should hear some more Shinn! The Unified Theory album is tops, and the Everything is Energy album is pretty good too. He is definitely singing with a different style here, but he does some different things on his newest album as well.

I also think it is him because they haven't announced it yet. His solo album comes out at the end of January, and I imagine he wanted to get it out on his own before the Live thing either distracts from it or sends more people to check out his other material. Otherwise, why not make the announcement?

OTD, I sincerely hope they give us new music instead of re-records. I know it's coming but the re-records are unnecessary to me beyond this. Unless they are songs we haven't heard yet of course, but I would consider those "new." Like, if New City or Wash the Blood Away showed up on the new disc I would be pumped out of my skull.

Do you think they will go out on a tour with him "if" it's him? Hmmm. I'd at least check them out.

I like the new recording, I think it's great. Brings an authenticity back to the music which has kind of been lacking in the last decade. I also think the singer will probably find his own groove moreso as time goes on and he feels his way into the group etc.

And I think they should definitely tour. Anybody who turns up ignorant of what they're seeing has no excuse. Fuck those you can't please - worry about satisfying those you can and all that.

I like, I like, and I like. If they ever come to England I'll be there.

I like the song. I think some of the things that are different are not different in a bad way, mostly how he pronounces some of the words. Some probably feel otherwise but I don't mind it. It isn't "Hey look at me sing this!", I think it is just him singing it.

I have a feeling we will get some less popular songs in concert which will be nice. Plus newer material at some point. Hell, you can fill a concert with one CD worth of songs. Alter Bridge used to do it after their first CD together.

So I wouldn't worry about any shows feeling like one long karaoke session *restrains from saying that is what an Ed show feels like...but fails to restrain* because they can play new songs and obscure Live songs sprinkled with a few of the obvious hits.

I think that might be more interesting than the old Live pretty much playing Awake every concert.

They did, they would mix in a few of their fave songs and cover them.

This recording was a great way to build momentum for next year. I really hope they release a couple more of these rehearsal sessions as well. Maybe a rehearsal video would be a great way to introduce everyone to their new lead singer. To actually have new LIVE material coming out soon is crazy and I cannot wait to hear it. I wonder if the lyrics will be a collaborative effort too?

Give me some of the lesser played songs. I can't recall really seeing Good Pain played all that often, let's unearth that diamond.

I like the new AOY as well. I think its impossible not to make some comparison to the original, given that we've all heard it a million times and know what its "supposed" to sound like. That being said, I think CCP really nail it and ? sings damn good - especially toward the end.

I'm not interested in new Live putting out a cover album of old Live stuff, but to hear them tear through some classics (with a new energy) in concert would be awesome. After seeing and hearing CCP in TGF, I have no worries about their ability to craft some kick ass rock. I can't wait to hear more!

Funky - you should have made this a "non-teasing" thread as well, as OTD continues to drop his bits of knowledge... laugh.gif

I think it will be hard to initially accept old Live songs with a new singer. They are just burned into my memory as sounding a certain way. Not that they have been performed that way in a long, long time. Because it was Ed singing I think I was able to find something in his performance that could remind me of his great past. There wasn't much left, but it was still Ed. I think what will seal the deal is new music. If they can perform a show with a good deal of new music and sprinkle in some old stuff, I think I can quickly forget about Ed altogether. I think this singer is up to the task, at least vocally. We'll see what he can come up with lyrically. Maybe the band will get involved in that process too like TGF. Would love to have Jerry Harrison on board too.
