I was checking Amazon and the Sony music store. It seems that Songs from Black Mountain is now being released by Red/Ink Epic instead of just plain Epic records(which the Fray and Natasha Bedinfield among others reside)

Does anyone know what is Red/Ink Epic is? Is it a smaller branch of the Epic company? Maybe thats why promotion for Live's album has just about died.

Red Ink is distribution, not a branch of Epic. Live is still on Epic. And by the way, stop complaining about record lables and how they work until you have an idea of how they work. If you knew anything you would know that Epic doesnt have any branches, they are a branch themselves from sony.

By why do only some of Epic artists have Red Ink distribution? What is the difference between that and standard Epic distribution? Oh and until Epic proves me otherwise, I think they totally dropped the ball regarding Live.

Also I know that Epic doesn't have to prove anything to me, but I don't have to stop knocking them either. They did a piss-poor job getting the single airplay. And if "The River" wasn't a good single, which I think it was, they were the ones who picked it regardless. So the fault lies with them.

See that's the thing, you think it was .. I think the fault lies with Live cos The River was absolute trash.

RED Distribution (the official name) is a company owned by Sony-BMG and distributes albums for 42 different labels.

Bands don't pick the singles.

Its as good(and better than most) songs on Hot A/C radio at the moment. However, if the song failed to pick up thats fine. Mystery or Night of Nights would make a great single if pushed properly. Right now, it seems Epic just wants Live off their label.

The facts are:

1. Epic signed LIVE after the album was created
2. Epic picked the first single

The fault lies there.

I don't blame Epic for wanting Live off their lable, if they came to me with SFBM I'd have said "lol"

If they came to me with SFBM I would be pushing it like crazy.

Why? so it can fail? This album isn't going anywhere and was never going to.

Because it rocks. And who cares if it's not going anywhere?

Many bands have an album or two that don't go anywhere.

I wrote Mark from AllAccess about exactly what RedInk Epic is and this is what he had to say.

"As far as Red Ink/Epic goes...that is a distribution arm of Epic. They nurture a lot of
the younger bands on the label. It might be good for the band to be the big fish in the
smaller pond...like when they were on RadioActive/MCA. Who knows how all those
label politics go?"

Well maybe Live could do okay on this smaller label with less expectations? At least the CD will be released in the US.
