QUOTE(kizarsky @ Sep 10 2010, 9:57 pm) *

I am a long time lurker, and have been big fan of Live for many years.

I am just not into TGF's style of music. Kevin is a poor substitute for Ed K. in my opinion, and the music is just not my thing.

On the other hand, I actually own and really like Ed's album Alive. It is just more in line with my personal taste in music.

Fair enough. At least thanks for having the guts to reply. smile.gif

Kevin is not a substitute for Ed. This is TGF. Not Live. But I respect that you don't like this kind of music. I think that this album will be more to the liking of people of the testosterone persuasion and not so much for people of the estrogen persuasion. Frankly, I would be concerned if my woman liked this hard hitting heavy rock. (Just kidding - don't call me a sexist)

This is a no brainer. The album is great. I want every person who voted that it sucks to identify themselves and explain why.

Well I certainly did vote it sucks, 70's rock coupled with mediocore pop/rock songs is just a weird mix for an album IMHO. Kevin Martin's voice also tends to grate on me after a bit, as he did with Candlebox(save for a few songs). This sounds more like Candlebox than Live, and for me that is a problem.

The album is in your face from the start. It impacts you, and you can flat out feel the passion behind the music and the lyrics. This music isn't just for show, its a god damn statement.

I'd like to quote Shaun, as portrayed by Simon Pegg, "Get fucked four eyes."

I respect your opinion expressed here. I don't agree when you say it is a "retread" and it is not "original", but if you don't like the style, flow of the album or Kevins vocals - I can totally respect that. I will be perfectly honest here - I think the music is beyond reproach, but I sometimes think to myself that these songs might sound better with a different vocalist. Kevin's vocals are more of an acquired taste or a niche sound. But, like coffee and liquor, although I had to acquire the taste, I am totally addicted to it now.

Maybe you could make a distinction in the poll between 'It sucks' and 'Not my cup of tea'.

There is quite a difference between those if you ask me.

Did you actually listen to the whole album? That is what the poll is about.

Agreed. I was kind of hoping for a similar change in the latest "Alive" poll as neither polar option really applied.

Also it could be made more clear that it is for the full album and not "do you like this band" because I think there has been confusion about that.

I don't have the album and I voted that I think it's great. I've heard most of it now thanks to the Amazon link in the other thread. A couple of horrible songs more isn't going to deter that opinion, and I'm sure the 3 or 4 songs I haven't heard aren't going to be horrible to my ears.

Who's got.the record?

I'm assuming the people who have commented on it - but I'm sure that's not the case.

This thread (and really most of the board) is starting to remind me of a political election where people would blindly support and vote for a candidate, or against a candidate, based soley on party lines without even knowing what the candidate is really all about.

If you haven't actually heard the entire album, multiple times, then you should really shut the fuck up and base your comments on reality when you hear it. Only at that time is your praise or critisism worth a damn.

Just because you've seen a few clips of a hot chick, or heard about her from others, doesn't mean you've actually taken her for a ride.

As I did with Ed's album I'll give it a ton of spins when I get it and actually digest the music before I start posting any opinions on it. If I did it any other way I'd be making a fool out of myself!

For someone who doesn't like 70's rock to begin with, you certainly write your review with another hint of contradiction. Like you do care for the genre. I'll give you one 1/2 star for writing 'IMHO'.

It sounds nothing of either band. Take the ed' turds out of your ears.
