Great write up. It's such a reversal of the type of news you typically hear about rock bands and their "extracurricular activities".

I wish them all the success in the world with the investments they're making. I hope they achieve everything they're aiming to achieve in York and then some.

I've transcribed the article...

*************

Think Loud, York Proud.
by Kelly Smedley

Patrick Dahlheimer, founding member of the band Live and current director of Think Loud Holdings, makes a hometown investment.

Despite traveling the globe to perform for millions of adoring fans, Patrick Dahlheimer still calls York his home. The former bassist for the multi-platinum band Live, and a current member of the band The Gracious Few, has invested a good deal of time and money to help revitalize his hometown and surrounding municipalities.

Dahlheimer's passion for making a difference in the community that raised him is evident in Think Loud Development, a development group consisting of him and fellow band members. Together, they are redeveloping the former Maple Press/Bi-Comp building near Sovereign Bank Stadium, a $10 million renovation project that could bring an additional $35 million in tenant build-out. The building is slated to house a technology-firm campus as well as a recording studio and a headquarters for Think Loud.

Q: As someone who grew up in York, how much has changed over the past few decades.
A: I've seen York grow at it's own pace, seemingly a natural one. In the early '90s, there was a focus on downtown business, commercial and entertainment development. It held its tide for about a decade. Development then seemed to push outward to the suburbs. Chain restaurants and mass retail spawned most of the growth and did well for the country. I think in the past six or so years, I've seen a push to revitalize or rebrand downtown York. Independent retail shops, galleries and brew pubs are becoming a regular sign in our city landscape. It's exciting to be part of it as a "Yorker."

Q: What's the current status of the Maple Press/Bi-Comp building renovation project?
A: The building is under construction as we speak. Plans were approved about two months ago, and we are looking at that project being completed by September 2013.

Q: What are your biggest challenged in developing that property, and how are you handling them?
A: Our intention in developing the Bi-Comp building was to create office space for a few tech companies and house Think Loud Development headquarters. All of the city and country agencies we have dealt with have been more than accommodating in every way possible. Mayor Bracey and her staff have been an instrumental part in our investment in York.

Q:Are there any other York County development projects slated for the near future?
A:Think Loud Development is looking at several other projects for 2012 and 2013. There are plans to redo one of the iconic buildings downtown, but we are not there yet. We have several land lease deals in place, and we continue to develop our ROC 1 building in Reading.

Q:Has Think Loud's recent naming of a president and two assistance changed the dynamic within the group? Has it affected any of your development plans in York County?
A:The growth of Think Loud is the way my partners and I generally run business. We set the goals, help create the platform and then allow the real brains to come in and maintain the ship. I have to have some time to play the bass!

Q:From a businessperson's perspective, when makes York County stand apart from other areas? What should someone know about the area when considering whether to develop a business here?
A:Beyond having a county and city government that support growth and welcome new business, for me it's an investment in my community. If I am going to call this area my home, then why not become a positive factor? I only want to see the best for York.

Q:Where do you see York county five or 10 years from now and how to you fit into those plans?
A:Hopefully it will be like The Jetsons, but I'm not banking on it. I think York will continue to grow at its own pace or be pushed by those who are willing to try. I see myself as one of those people who are willing to try.
