As most of the regular posters on this board are aware, I'm a big supporter of recordings of independent origin (ROIOs).

I believe that tapers (video and audio) perform the valuable task of documenting events that would otherwise be lost. Fans who cannot make the concert will be able to experience the performance and people who attend can relive the show.

I've seen my fair share of taping policies and in my opinion Candlebox's is one of the best. Here is an extract:

QUOTE

Audience taping is permitted at all shows, whether audio or video. Candlebox believes that the taping and proliferation of such live recordings promotes fan interaction and is an invaluable grassroots marketing tool.

There are, however, a few simple guidelines that the band insists be followed. With responsible recording, use, and distribution, fans will continue to enjoy the privilege of taping Candlebox live performances. These guidelines are as follows:

* When Candlebox opens for a band or plays in a venue that does not allow taping, the taping policy of the headlining band or venue supersedes Candlebox's policy for that evening.
* No recording gear or electricity will be supplied; be sure you have all the necessary equipment. Soundboard feeds will not be provided.
* Please be polite while taping by keeping in mind the crew and concert-goers around you. A fan's show experience should never be disrupted by microphones or stands.

All taping must be for personal and non-commercial use only. No profit is ever to be made from live Candlebox recordings! You are permitted to trade shows with other fans for an equal amount of media. 2-for-1 trading is considered profiteering and will not be tolerated.

In the interests of making any such recordings as openly accessible as possible to all fans who may be interested, Candlebox requests that all tapers upload their recordings to the Live Music Archive: http://www.archive.org/details/etree.

The full policy can be read here: http://www.candleboxrocks.com/tour-officia...ping-policy.php

Sure YES and YES!!

Living far away and not being able to see my fave bands live, I would DEF support the free taping policy during the gigs!

Otherwise many overseas fans would not be able to enjoy the music to the fullest.

Absolutely yes! I really hope that this is the case for TGF ... I love when bands have this. My favorite is Ween who even link a fan run "Brown Tracker" torrent site on their main website encouraging people to upload and share there. It's never going to detract from ticket sales, listening to bootlegs is awesome but it is no substitute for actually being at the show.

Unfortunatly I don't think I'll be taking advantage of it in the sense of recording because I just dont have anything worthwhile recording with .. although surprisingly I used my iphone at a few gigs recently and got some nice recordings .. but they've been acoustic shows, easier to get a clean sound from rather than a full on rock show with more noise.

i must say i only dig live recordings of shows i have NOT been to. When ive seen the recordings of shows i have attended it kinda diminished the experience. sometimes not being able to relive the experience through an inferior medium makes the original experience all the more special. I remember in the 2000 olympics during the opening ceremony when the atheletes were walking into the stadium in their national groups, many of them had digital camcorders throughout the entire parade. When asked what it was all about, i recall the replies being "this is a once in a lifetime thing, we want the memory to last forever..". But they never actually "experienced" the moment, they had their eyes plastered onto a 3 inch viewfinder, just so that could watch it 10 more times for the next 40 years.

"but the beauty of this vision has long gone, just like yesterday's sunset. It's been perverted by the sentimental...and mistaken for love"

Anyway im rambling, yes to both godammit!

Whoever votes no is getting an ass kicking!

Unless they have a really good reason, of course...

If it was Ed I'm sure Nick would disapprove.

Can I just say that when I read this I had a weird moment of going "wow that actually is really beautiful, I wonder where it's from?"

It's funny when you hear songs over and over through out the years sometimes the words become so second nature that you end up not focusing on them so much or in a way "taking them for granted". So when you see them written down sometimes it's a reminder of just how great the words actually are. Went and listend to Iris straight away after reading that and just enjoyed it in a whole new level than I reckon I have in years smile.gif

You really want to have some fun? Listen to Iris, then go listen to Heaven. It'll make you throw up in your mouth. HAHAHA.

Um, yeah...totally Aitkens. I get the reason for the switch to soft/happy/drippy/sappy.....but as we know the hard core fans never were down with this. the newer fans embraced it, which is fine in the grand scheme of things.......but they fell off the face of the music landscape with the direction change led by Ed.

They lost a TON of fans with the change in the music, aka Ed's hostile take over.

Nick: Well Heaven was a single whilst Iris never made it as a single. Heaven sold more individual copies and there for is the better song smile.gif

Honestly I try not to listen to new live and old live together for this exact reason. I still do like songs here and there of the new Live, but it's just so far removed from what I fell in love with.

Iris .. with that relentless pounding drum beat, those lyrics, the passion and energy..

Anyways, didn't want to derail this thread from it's original purpose, just made me think after seeing it written in Wam's post.
