I seriously doubt that the guys had a million different vocalists beating down their doors to sing on this album...

Sadly, probably, true.

Through touring, labels and social events I'm sure they could get enought commitments for an album.

I'm sure they could get the guys from Blues Traveler, Counting Crows, Collective Soul, Candle Box ( lol.gif ), just to name a few to lay down ready to go vocals for a song.

They could even have Ed lay down a track. I'm sure he would help.

It would require some effort, but I don't think it would be that hard for them. Then you could tour with one person.

This would provide and automatic connection with numerous fanbases and probably add a lot of additional interest to the project.

I'd imagine that would cost quite a bit of money, I agree it would be fun but there are no signs pointing to such a thing so I don't see why it is worth discussing.

QUOTE(Pokey @ Jul 22 2009, 12:35 pm) *

I dunno .. I can just hear similarities, maybe not specifically matchbox 20 themselves, but that style but more rocked out. Like matchbox 20 is pussy vocals, this just comes off as pussy disguised in rock vocals or something .. I dunno, he hasn't got a bad voice, like it's not cracking and he's hitting his notes so thats all awesome, its more just a personal preference thing as opposed to saying he's a bad singer.

Also Nick, saying he's going to do a half arsed effort because of the way he worded a throw away comment in a nothing interview is jumping the gun a little. Maybe this whole thing is a side project for CT too, he really is loving his Harvest Moon and im sure will do more of that stuff so its not like this project will have his 100% attention either.

Either way, Martin is a thousand times the better singer thyan Ed is right now. To me, Ed sounds like he's ready to front an all girl band, or the Backstreet Boys, take your pick.

Dude is a solid singer, with the agressive quality we've been missing with Ed since SS. Going to the last show, although not a bad one, confirmed for me that Ed's voice has just gone to shit. The band was great for Waitress, but he nearly ruined the fucking song. I'd have done a much better job up there singing it and that's pretty pathetic. Ed just makes me laugh now, so sad.

Really? From the more recent acoustic performances I've seen from Ed, he seems to be doing quite good. The voice is generally lowering and there's a hint of blues/gospel in there. The only thing I've heard that I didn't like was the use of "oh lord" and "child" at random times, which makes me boil inside. Voice wise though... I dunno... doesn't seem too bad to me?

Singing just with an acoustic guitar is a lot different than singing with a full band behind you. I do think the current sound of Ed's voice is more appropriate for acoustic performances than shows with the band.

For example, watch the beginning of I Alone on the Paradiso DVD, it sounds awful or at the very least completely unaggressive.

For an acoustic show, how strong really does his voice have to be? "Pulling if off" for that type of show is not the same as bringing it on strong for a stadium concert. Just my opinion.

If you don't have a powerful voice, an acoustic show can be a horrible experience for the audience. Ed with only a guitar pulls off a more entertaining shows that most full bands. The guy really is an amazing performer.

A stadium show can have a ton of bells and whistles to carry weak vocals. Also plenty of big band concerts now use vocal tracks to help the singer out.

That said, both are difficult to pull of and Ed has done an awesome job of bringing it to both types of shows for quite some time.

--thanks for saving me from responding- i would add that its not just the "strength" or powerfulness of the voice that makes or breaks the acoustic show, but also the singers sound/pitch etc.. his voice sounded GOOD, really GOOD at the acoustic shows..

Yeah I saw Ed's solo show here in Atlanta and was pleasantly surprised about how much fun it was! I really didnt know what to expect. Im kinda thinking if we can get more Ed solo shows and some shows from the new band for the next two years it will not be as bad as everyone may think. But I would like to still see another LIVE show and album. My last show was in Orlando at the house of blues back in January of 07. Fortunatley if that is to be the last time I saw LIVE it was one of the best shows I ever saw from them and that was my 15th concert attended dating back to 1999 Rockfest in Atlanta when I first became a big fan!

I don't think it is that Ed's voice sounds bad, its that since the V era his vocal style has not really fit the rock music behind it. I still think he sounds great, its just that the style doesn't fit anymore. Thus, the solo acoustic tour being great makes sense.

In studio much can be done, with a lot of takes and tinkering.

Purifer sounded great in concert, the few times it was played as well. The bridge in Forever sounds good, but its lower in concert to fit Ed's range.
