OK - You've asked for it!

QUOTE(Badman @ Dec 9 2008, 11:19 pm) *

The board is terribly boring... please Hoodie, make a random poll thread or something. I am not even kidding, this board really blows about now.

Now that we've had time to digest Radiant Sea and Live at the Paradiso I'd like to ask which album has the better live tracks. Obviously Live at the Paradiso has more, but if you were to listen to songs individually which one would you be more likely to pull from?

It isn't even close for me. Live at the Paradiso hasn't left my CD player since November 11th. It gives you an actual concert experience.

I never listen to Radiant Sea outside of the two new tracks.

That's the Gruenspan one, right? (I think that's what I have it listed as in itunes...)

But yeah, you're right. Personally, I prefer some of the songs from Radiant Sea - Live at Paradiso gets points for being an actual concert (albeit cut), but there are better versions of almost every song somewhere else.

Radiant Sea gets the slight edge, though there are some bootlegs which are better than both albums.

I 3rd this opinion... Gruenspan kicks ass. Radiant sea was better than paradiso though... it's easy to see that. PoD... I alone... it was all so much better. Radiant sea had a little bit of improv stuff and gruenspan had so much. Paridiso was a rip except for Turn my head. That version is better than the album version.

That's funny.... Gruenspan's Turn My Head is still my favorite versions! Something's funny about the Paradiso version, I can't really explain it.

What the fuck are you talking about. It's not even close to a concert experience! The tracks are reordered, half of the concert is missing, and all of the songs are faded in and out to blend the chopping.

It's RS from one show!

Live from the Paradiso flows much better than Radiant Sea does, and for me, it really captures the concert experience you get at a live show. The audience also is very intense and you can feel the band feeding off of it. Its just a great CD.

The "Den Haag" and "Gruenspan" shows are different. The first one is in Holland and the second one is in Germany.

You guys are mislead. The Paradiso album is not a concert album, it is a compilation from 2 completely separate shows mixed up and reordered. I wish it were a concert CD.

It says right on the inside of the album book (right above Pat's head) "Recorded on June 30th and July 1st at the Paradiso in Amsterdam." Same venue - different shows mixed into one. I don't see how a common venue makes this any different than RS except for the fact they tried to fool you with mixing..

Bottom Line - both albums are cool.

Common tracks

I Alone - Better version on Radiant Sea
Lakini's Juice - Better version on Radiant Sea
The Dolphin's Cry - Better version on Radiant Sea

The concert was filmed from the July 1st show. I still stand by my opinion that Live at the Paradiso has a much better flow than Radiant Sea.

Actually you're not right in saying it are two shows. Yes, you're right in stating what is described in the booklet (recorded june 30/juli 1), but I'm quite sure that hasn't anything to do with the audio. Don't you think you would notice, watching your dvd, that with the footage of still the same show (video is all from july 1) that the audio doesn't match the video? By that, I think 'recorded june 30/juli 1' is said because of the shots of the audience, as I am on the dvd, but I was only there the first night...

Aside from that, I don't think you need to have all the songs of a show to have a concert experience while listening to the songs you DO have. I agree with Nick I also have a concert feeling. It's not about being complete, it's what you feel and hear in every single song again.

I've watched the dvd numerous times now, and the video footage is definitely from 1 show. You see the crowd many different times during every song, and the faces in the crowd are in the same place with every shot. Even if the same people went both nights, it would be quite impossible that they stood in the same exact place both nights. lol.gif

And Ed is not lip-syncing on any shots either.. that's a given. So I'm almost certain the dvd is from 1 show. Now that I've watched it about 4 times, I know how the audio goes with each track. I've listened to the cd over 10 times, and the cd is definitely the same exact recording as the dvd.. meaning 1 show.

I understand your point but that WASN'T THE QUESTION BEING ASKED Nick (and everyone else with this logic). I asked which album has the BETTER live tracks?

This was not about which album flows better. Obviously Paradiso does, they designed it that way.

This thread is about, song for song, which has the better live tracks. I think the songs on Radiant Sea carry more energy and sound like better quality recordings.

If I were to give a collection of songs to a person who had never heard Live, in an effort to convert them into being a fan, I would go with Radiant Sea any day!

If you believe otherwise that's fine. I didn't ask, however, what flows better!

By the way, if we're adding live shows, I'm a HUGE fan of the SS Riverside show. Fucking ROCKS! rockin.gif

I finally agree with Hoodie on something......Radiant Sea is so much better, it's not even much of a debate. Playing the Paradiso concert Cd, numerous people who've visited my home have all made the same remark. "Sounds like a band I heard play a long time back at a pool hall/bowling alley."

Anyhow, HAPPY HOLIDAYS to each and every one of you...even you Hoodie. thumbsup.gif
