Billboard has just posted an article regarding the CD/DVD:

Live
July 08, 2008 , 11:30 AM ET
John Benson, Cleveland
After years of talk, Live recently recorded a June performance in Amsterdam with plans to release a concert DVD/CD package this fall.

"The venue we wound up in was this place called the Paradiso, which was actually an old church," frontman Ed Kowalczyk tells Billboard.com. "It was just a fantastic venue, and we saw some of the footage and it's just sort of a transcendent looking place. Obviously being a church it already has that vibe going for it, and that coupled with the energy of the audience and the way they lit it, I think it's just going to be extraordinary."

Kowalczyk says while the DVD/CD track listing hasn't been determined, the band's set list included material from all seven Live studio albums, as well as its popular cover of Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line."

"There are some surprises in there for sure," Kowalczyk says. "From what I saw in the truck, the way they documented the emotion of the fans, I'm hard-pressed to think of a another recent concert movie that I've seen, except for maybe U2 with the 3D thing, where they captured the essence of the fans response and reaction so profoundly. I know that's raising the bar by comparing it to U2, but I think I'm right and people will understand when they see it."

Live plans to a few new studio tracks to complement the CD portion of the DVD release, which is currently untitled and tentatively due out in October. The band, which is now shopping the project with labels, hopes to tour throughout 2009 in support of the concert release.

In the meantime, Live is touring this summer with Collective Soul and Blues Traveler through mid-August before returning to Europe in the fall for a month of "Night of the Proms" dates. There also appears to be some solo talk from Kowalczyk, but he's keeping his plans close to the vest.

"I've been messing around, and it's nothing I can really talk about because none of it is done yet," Kowalczyk says. "But I've been branching out and doing some stuff on my own to a greater degree than I ever have. I'll leave it at that. Watch for my bald head next year in a couple of different spots that you might not have expected."

Wow, based on this article an actual studio album in the next year or so seems doubtful.

yeah, although there were some cool news facts in the article (new songs!, Ed moving in new directions, the guys being impressed by how the dvd footage was), it scares me that Ed is really thinking of doing some solo stuff. Also a few new songs in the dvd/cd package, means that a new proper studio album is further away than ever.

Ed can do whatever the fuck he wants because he no longer has good song writing talent. He still has great pop hook writing talent, but so do commercial jingle people. I'd be ECSTATIC if Ed were just Live's singer anymore and the real band did the writing.

I'm surprised that Ed did not mention the DVD at Red Rocks. If it is really coming out in October, you'd think they would start promoting it now and playing new songs in concert. I'm also happy that they are looking to work with a label. Even a small indie label is more cost effective than going it entirely on your own.

A year of solid touring in 2009 sounds good as well. Daughtry has a new CD coming out next spring, I'd love to see the bands hook up next summer.

Ed going solo scares me, but as long he just uses it is a temporary creative outlet before Live returns with a new studio album, I think it'd be fine.

This sounds like either they don't think the setlist is known or they're going to make a chopped up CD/DVD like Radiant Sea.

I'm really interested in the new material mentioned!

Ehh, the article didn't really make it sound like he was going "solo," just doing some stuff away from LIVE. David Banner, anyone?

Maybe some work with Daughtry again?

What happened when they last collaborated together? I don't think any of Ed's work even appeared on Daughtry's album.

Another possibility could be Stuart Davis. Why doesn't Ed actually utilise some of his connections from the Integral Naked organisation he belongs to? Last time I checked Billy Corgan was involved. On second thought, that's probably not a good idea...

Does anybody know where I can buy that Stuart Davis track that featured Ed? I checked the Stuart Davis site but there's no option to download an individual track. Is it on iTunes?

Here's an idea, how about the full show for the DVD?
A CD can hold a maximum of 80 minutes so unless it's going to be a multi-CD release then a lot of the tracks performed at the show are going to be cut. I always welcome new tracks.

Btw, I wonder what new studio songs will indicate? Songs that they're gonna record in the near future? Or maybe have been recorded earlier this year. Or maybe it will be just again some old b-sides, just like RS and BI. They never played those songs in concert, so I wonder if they will exercise the new DVD/CD songs...

By that, promoting the DVD/CD with a tour (and finding a label), maybe we get the first new proper single since The River. And by that they can choose to release one of the new songs off it, or just release a Live live single for the first time ever (cuz that reprents the whole thing a lot more: something live live).

Does it really matter that much if the songs are new to all of us?

From that article it sounds like we're getting some brand new tracks on the CD, alongside recordings from the concerts and of course the main DVD. That's pretty cool.

Ed says "in a couple of different spots", so it seems like he's just going to be collaborating with a few people, and that's fine I guess.

Still, it sounds like a new studio album is faaaaaaar faaaaaaaar away. Like, 2010 at the earliest.

yeah, well at least it matters to me.

'there's a big diff between 'new' TC songs (for example), than new NEW songs that will def. sound more like SFBM than all the existing outtakes. Not that I expect some TC outtakes, smile.gif but ya know. Nobody knew that the V outtakes from RS were recorded back than, and they were registered only in 2007.

Holy Shit!!! I've been saying all along that Live should record new music live for a while and have been told it was retarded. Watch Out!
