Shinedown Update from Brent
04.11.2008

Hi everyone.

It's been awhile since I've posted, but I wanted to reach out to all of the Shinedown fans myself and let you know what's going on firsthand. We just heard about Jasin's recent troubles in Jacksonville, and our thoughts and prayers are with him. A lot has happened this past year and there have been some changes within the band that we've been meaning to tell you about. I love Jasin like a brother, we all do - he'll always be family and we hope all of the best for him, but, at this time, he's no longer with us in Shinedown. This all went down awhile ago, and I'm sorry to break this news today. I realize that this isn't the best timing, but with stuff like this, there really isn't ever a good time. We just felt like we couldn't wait any longer and had to let you all know. We've brought an old friend into SD - Nick Perri. Nick's an amazing guitarist and we've known him forever from our days on the road with Silvertide (many of you were probably at those shows and remember him too). We also have a new bass player - Eric Bass. Just a fantastic musician and all around great guy - we can't wait for you to meet him. And you will very soon - we're hitting the road next month. I'm also happy to report that the new album is finished and we're so excited to share it with all of you. Its called The Sound Of Madness and will be out this summer. Please stay tuned to the website and radio stations out there... the first song is coming soon. Lastly, I just want to thank you again for all of your support. You're the best fans in the world and the reason we're even here. Without you, there is no Shinedown. Don't ever forget that - we definitely don't.

Brent

Oh man, I love Shinedown so much, I think I might cry. I really don't like it when bands change their line ups, especially not after I get to know and love them so much. First Brad (bass) left, and now Jasin, it'll never feel the same again. This totally sucks big time.

I am still unbelievably psyched for June 24th when their next album, The Sound of Madness, comes out, but this has completely stabbed me in the heart, I am SO upset right now.

I, too, just read Brent's blog and was in shock!!!! I love Jasin and Brad!!!!! Wow....While I feel awful about the changes, I am just relieved the Rev Brent is still there along with Barry.

This band is right up there in my top 5 of all time. Their songs are so spot on with my life now and OMG~they rock so great in concert!!!

Yeah, Brent is still there with Barry. If Barry left, as much as I LOVE Brent, it'd kill it for me I think. I am still totally CRUSHED, but, I've just been in chat with a few fans and Zach Myers!!! He was so cool, answering questions and everything, and I asked if anyone from Shinedown liked Live, and he said that he did (though not so much now). I was like WOOO!

I've seen Zach live with shinedown and he is great~totally part of the band even back then.

Barry is amazing, but my heart is with brent and his lyrics and the way he sings...*sigh* too bad the now ed doesnt have the passion that brent does.

One thing this whole situation has made me realise is how much I love Live just for sticking together. They have a few touring musicians which is cool as nearly all bands do, but they've stuck TOGETHER. Maybe the music isn't as goos anymore, but it's them. I love Live.

But on to Shinedown, I still really can't believe it. The worst part is not having any official word from the label....and we still don't know why Brad left either. Secrets, damn them to hell!

Have you heard why Jasin left??? The unofficial word?

Yes, no matter how I feel about the new "fluff," I commend them for sticking together, supporting each other...kinda like sticking with my chooksters!!!!

There's no official definite word, just a bunch of rumours, some people saying OOHH YEAH THAT'S TRUE, others going NOOOO THERE'S MORE TO IT THAN YOU KNOW, I KNOW IM IN THE INNER CIRCLE...............no official wordsucks. sad.gif

From what I gather though, it's a story of undetermined length (eg foundations maybe layed a while back) that has to do with drugs, and recently the law...I'm totally not sure. Some are saying the label wanted him out as well, some say he had his chances to get sober but didn't.

I really dunno. no.gif

This sucks. I hate it when bands lose the original members unless there is a good reason for them to be leaving. It just changes everything and it never seems the same anymore. Hopefully, the new guys bring it.

Devour, the first single from the new album, The Sound of Madness, can now be heard on the band's homepage. Click here to give it a listen. I've got it on right now, and it's great. Not their very best song, but still very good indeed!

In addition, here they are covering One, by U2. U2 are, of course, one of Live's great influences (that's my lame excuse for linking to this). I personally think it's an awesome cover.

I like some of Shinedown's stuff, but not a fan of this single at all. Too much screaming, its like bad Mettalica.

Admittedly, it isn't the easiest thing to digest, but it's really growing on me. They're filming a video for it at the moment / soon, which I hope will feature the band playing in a hectic battlefield or something!

I think I was expecting something like "I Dare You," which I love. The nature of the song just caught me off guard.

From what I heard of "Devour," I love it!!! I think the band has had a lot of shit happen recently and the angst and emotions come through in Brent's vocals.

While I like, "I Dare You," I think it is one of the weaker tracks on "Us & Them."

But, if you want good in your face screamin,' or what others view as screaming, check out Disturbed's, "Into the Fire." The video is good, but on the dark side, to say the least.

I love I Dare You too, but really, that was quite an experiment from Shinedown....well, not an experiment, but lighter material, kind of. Hard to explain.

Devour is the first political song by Shinedown, and it's about Brent's thoughts on the Bush administration.

Also, watch that U2 cover - I am in love with it right now and am eager to know what others think!
