Great news! Only next month too. A 'few unreleased songs from that era' sounds promising. I don't think you could classify Negation and Heaven Wore a Shirt as unreleased in any way. Born Branded certainly could be. Which going by what Ed said leaves at least two new unreleased songs as part of the release. Sweeet.

I think I heard that Four Songs was released with some of the Throwing Copper editions in 1994, so in fact they gave those songs away already. On the other hand, I always try to not expect too much, as we've been dissapointed before in the past. Radiant Sea: those two new songs were cool, but at first it was announced as the ultimate rarities we all wished for, and turned out to be live tracks that most already head. Looking forward to the new release tough, especially as it will be next month already!

"Born Branded" was on a sampler.

Out of curiosity, does anyone recall this sampler or remember how Born Branded was revealed online?

Pretty sure "Mental Jewelry" Is Mirror Song
Yeah, on the mediaFive website it confirms this

*From the Media Five Website:

FOUR SONGS/MENTAL JEWELRY, 1991 (Milwaukee, WI) age, 20yrs.
MEDIA FORMAT: VINYL, CD, AUDIO CASSETTE, DAT, 2"& 1/2" MASTER
Our producer, Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads/Modern Lovers) had a budget to record 12 songs but he loved all 15 of the tunes we had played him. He called Gary Kurfirst for help on deciding which tracks to cut and the plan was hatched to release an EP before the album. Negation and Heaven wore a shirt would find their place on Four Songs. The only outtake from that session was a track titled Born Branded. The other tracks make up Live's debut album. Additionally, we have hundreds of hours of rehearsals, video footage (some truly hilarious stuff) and writing sessions recorded from this era. I can also recall one of the band name suggestions; Jumna
. Mirror Song was originally called Mental Jewelry and we borrowed the song title for the name of the album.

I would imagine that they will do the same for Throwing Copper in 2019, and we will finally get Hold Me Up.

Then why not just do a box set with all rarities/demos included?

There are so many possibilities they can do. Has it been confirmed that they are going to release a new album in 2018/19? Or are they still kicking around the EP or digital/single ideas? My point is, if they are going to rerelease album(s), why not include a new song or two on those? I've proposed the idea here of them doing that with MJ.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what they do and what we get. Maybe some songs on sitting shelves we've never even heard.

Good find. This is Chad's response to FansofLive from his blog allthingschadtayalor. An answer to a question.

I'm sure I read this at some point, too. I must have forgotten entirely. I'm not sure which title I like better.

Maybe Live liked the title "mental jewelry" more than "mirror song" and thus elevated it to the title of the album.

It works.

I really hope they polish up some unreleased PA songs for this or something. If Chad's old blog up there is any indication, there aren't any other outtakes, and we'll be getting Negation, Heaven Wore A Shirt, and Born Branded.

Mental Jewelry will be released on vinyl (see interview here). Not sure about the deluxe treatment though. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Was searching for any pre order info on the Mental Jewelry re release and came across this:

Looks like new representation. Is this new? Apologies if it's been posted elsewhere.

Chris Hardin has been managing Ed since he went solo (2009)

According to his LinkedIn profile he worked for Kurfist-Blackwell Entertainment which represented Live since 2000. https://www.linkedin.com/in/chrishardin1

I'm not getting my hopes up for the unreleased material. Regardless, this is something I am looking forward to and a step in the right direction. I'd still like them to do a show where they play MJ front to back.

I'd be really surprised if the vinyl comes out in July. That production process is pretty lengthy, and this is something they would have had to have had near completion last year. My guess is that we could see digital and CD copies this summer, with a pre-order for vinyl that will ship later on.

I wouldn't even be surprised if the band releases the CD/digital version that includes the extras, but MOV releases a standard copy on vinyl, like they have done with Throwing Copper, Secret Samadhi, and TDTH. MOV may actually already have it in the works, but they usually announce titles a few months in advance.
