I bet you anything they play more songs off their next album than Ed did off Alive. Hell, they only would have to play like two new songs.

Who gives a shit, really. Ed's balls were busted for playing "only" 5 new songs. I think it's funny watching everybody shit talk and then see live do the same things as Ed. My problem is not with cccp or Ed it's with the 2 sets of rules by some people on this site.

So you don't see any difference in the fact that every song Live plays has an air of freshness to it with a new singer and the more rocky musical style? That Live don't as of yet actively have new material to promote in the setlist? It sounds like you're just grasping at straws with a weak argument. If Live released a new album and only played 5 songs from it I'd be disappointed too. But they don't have a new album yet, they're keeping it under wraps for now as songs may not even be finished for all we know. Ed and Live are in 2 totally different situations currently and you can't really compare the 2. Live also only played a half set, what I'd call 4 "rare" songs into half a set is pretty good.

Live is Live and should play Live songs in concert. They are their songs.

Ed left Live to pursue a new direction. Of course he should play Live songs at his show, but if he left the band for a new direction they should be a minority of the setlist and not the vast majority.

If you want a new direction and leave your band and fans behind to go after it, then don't rip everyone off going to see your solo show by playing predominately old hits with a back up band. Play your new stuff and add 3 or 4 hits to the show.

No one has ever done that. See David lee Roth, Peter Gabriel, Sammy Hagar, any 80's hair band guy, McCartney plays alot of beatles shit. Btw, I bet live won't play more than 5 or 6 new songs either.

QUOTE(briburge @ Apr 1 2012, 2:54 pm) *

...When Ed said moving on it wasn't about the songs it was the people.

I thought for sure i heard Ed at least once say he was moving on because the music got stale and he wanted a change of direction... meaning the music. The only time i remember hearing him say anything about new people was when he called CCP "those individuals." Other than comments he made about his new bandmates being his brothers.

But whatever. they both have the right to play Live songs.
I'd much rather Ed stick to his new stuff - at least with the band. Solo acoustic his version of Live's music is still pretty awesome.

Live playing Live songs is also pretty awesome. And if the shows I saw in 98 are any indicator (and remember, in 98 all 4 band members were running the show... it wasn't Ed in charge of setlists and such until later) they played almost all new songs. I wouldn't be surprised if they come out and play a huge majority of new stuff.

If I try to think like Nick for a minute and think only about money (and recognizing that I don't know anything about their personal wealth's except for what I can imagine and I'm totally ignoring whatever I'm sure they've got saved up), CCP don't *NEED* Live to be a commercial success in the same way Ed does - solely based on the fact that CCP all have other business ventures... Ed is a singer/musician. That's it, unless someone knows something I don't (besides the coffee and pendants).
So if CCP hung up their music hats right now they'd still be able to feed their kids.
Ed would actually have to get a job selling coffee (like, at Starbucks) if he doesn't tour... unless he has other talents/skills we don't know about.

I feel like that's very possibly (again, this is me speculating) a huge part of why Ed became such a sell-out.

The guys can afford to just play for fun, kinda... or in my mind that's how it works. Maybe I'm freaking clueless (very possible), but this is the theory I've had for quite a while, and it's what helps me understand how CCP can have stayed so true to the idea of music first.

anyway, that said, maybe I'm stupid. just my thoughts.
I'm sure they all could live forever without ever making another dollar from anything... but I also know Ed was recently sued for over $1 million...

anyway, pretty sure Ed said more than once the moving on was about the music. that's why he gets shit for playing 3/4 LIVE songs and 1/4 his own at his shows.

They play for the feeling of real music, the excitement, the fans of Live, themselves....they do not play for the suits. They have plenty to keep they busy if they didn't record and play music.

On the note of what Ed would do...... Not sure. You seem to hit on something DQ. We've talked about this at length in the other warring threads on the litigation, control & direction.

This sums up his history into being the world class frontman of Live and into the frontman of his own solo career!!!

in fairness, I have NO CLUE what ed is capable of outside of music, so obviously he might do lots of things we don't know about, business type things like CCP... I'm just saying, I've never heard of any.

also, OTD, that diagram is pretty perfect. makes me sad.

Yeah, it should make us all upset due to the fact it shouldn't have had to go there. Just gonna keep it real. I will listen to see what Ed's music goes to next. I'll listen with an open mind.

When Morrissey went solo he didn't play any Smiths songs for about 10 years in his setlists. That's an extreme case but one where someone was able to continue to make it without falling back on old material.

But really no one is disputing that Ed can play Live songs, of course he can, just the ration of Live:Solo seems off for a solo artist.

Ed is also a songwriter for other artists. What outside business venture for CCP can you point to being successful? I am pretty sure Ed could retire right now and still be able to feed his kids. I also would think he has more money from his days with LIVE than CCP do.

Well yeah, when you give yourself a bigger cut you are bound to have more money hehe.gif

CG owns a successful car-auto business I believe, CT produces for bands and his wife does quite well with a yoga business, not to mention the fact they're doing their part to give York a helping hand, surely as the son of a politician you should be able to see the value in helping your community out. Anyways WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT THEIR SALARIES?? Who honestly cares who has more money than who, they all have more money than me so fuck them all tongue.gif
