Ed has played both of those songs acoustic solo without there being any percussion.

Seems more like his plans are erratic and he's just going by the seat of his pants. An "I Alone" tour in which he's not alone, makes no sense.

And both songs are much better with percussion than without. It gives the sound another dimension.

Videos from this tour will be the first videos of EK I've watched in a long, long time. Ramy just cracks me up.

Why am I expecting him to just have about 6 cymbals on stage with no other percussion?

I see we are on common ground.....he might as well be part of the Fat Albert's Band and be banging on some trash can lids, because that is all I hear when he is playing. I guess that's what you get when you hire a rocking church youth group drummer smile.gif

I picture him sitting in front of a big cement block that he just taps with one hand and occasionally drives his forehead into.

What? Why are those two songs specifically better with percussion and not every other god damn song?

You're a goon.

that's your opinion, which you are entitled to, but I respectfully disagree. when Ed uses his big boy voice, percussion (or any accompaniment) can be rendered unnecessary in certain circumstances. if, however, he's all shit-eating grin, then yes, he needs some kind of percussion to put some testosterone in the show.

Ed's voice and energy (for the most part post-2001, with a few performance exceptions (in my experience) here and there) has been lacking the quality that made it - well, Ed. I still love his voice, but the energy's different, the voice is different. We all (almost) seem to have discussed this ad nauseum.

anyway, I enjoy just Ed with guitar. I'm not a musician and I appreciate Ramy's... enthusiasm. shrug.gif We'll see what comes of this tour.

We Alone. Ha!

(fingers still crossed for kick ass sophomore effort...)

OTD, what is the context of that first video? I couldn't listen to the second two because that girl is so horrible, I could not continue. And I've seen that last one before...

I'll continue to call it - enthusiasm.

(I will say though, that I've met him and he is exceedingly nice)

So criticizing Ramy Antoun is okay, but Chris Shinn is off limits. Makes sense.....

i couldn't tell you what the context is, it's the first thing that come up on You Tube. The last one is hilarious!!! Sorry, I cannot get the monkey drummer image out of my head that Pokey posted in the past. He does seem like a party it up kind of dude.

any criticism I make of Ramy is that
1. he's no chad gracey (and really that's all there is to say about that)
and 2. he's just a crazy looking dude. so its fairly easy to pick on him a little.
and I'm not a musician but he does seem to enjoy the cymbals.

as far as criticizing Chris - while it doesn't belong in this thread - not everyone loves his voice, that's fine. but CCP have partnered w him so either enjoy or move on.

back to Ramy, like I said he is a super nice guy. he has an impressive resume, according to bios I've read. he's got crazy hair and looks very much like a windup monkey toy at times.... but the real reason people bust on him is that he's not even in the same league as CG.

your response will be that Chris is not in the same league as Ed. you're allowed to think that. and just like u should atop trolling the CCP section, there are probably some Ed haters who should avoid this section...

as an apologetic Ed fan, though, I think there's a huge difference between u and them:
many people here WANT to like Eds solo stuff (he just makes it difficult). You don't WANT to like what CCP and Live are doing. *you just wish them ill.*

when a lot of us make fun of Ramy, or Ed's solo stuff, or whatever, it's because we're so sad and disappointed that that voice has transformed into... Alive. (and remember, I like Alive for what it is, but it's not the same guy who created MJ, TC, SS, and TDTH).

and post for post, no one spews vitriol like u Nick.

anyway, I'll respond to you here, because this is where you belong. you're still being ignored elsewhere... so stay put. and please continue to update concert info... I do find that helpful. Thanks.

(originally typed on my phone - full of typos couldn't stand it, had to edit out thumb errors)

That's the thing really, as much as I really don't like Ed's personality these days, I'm a music fan first and foremost, if he put out good music, I'd listen to it, because why deprive yourself of good music if you don't have to? Zion shows that I'm capable of listening to Ed if he produces the goods, I really like it. I pick on Ramy because he's shit, plain and simple, he's probably a nice bloke, but I think he's a poor drummer. I'd like Ed to surround himself with some really good musicians and people that will push him creatively, people who won't make him look even more embarrassing than he is. I'd genuinely like to see him make something that I like. I don't think he deserves success based on what he is putting out now, but if he absolutely knocked it out of the park with some great music then I think that deserves some success. I'd love to see Ed bring out something like TBD or Sparkle into his set list, that would genuinely make me smile if he did something like that.
Nicholas just doesn't want Live to succeed full stop. He doesn't seem remotely interested in allowing himself to possibly like anything that they made, exactly, he doesn't want to like anything that they're doing, I'd like to like what Ed is doing, he's just making that difficult.
