For me, hearing the re-recorded tracks is definitely cool as a curiosity. I still prefer the originals but Shinn does a more than adequate job.

However, if the plan is to re-release TC with different vocals, I don't really see the point. I'm hoping this was more along the lines of they were rehearsing the songs and they thought it would be cool to lay them down with Shinn at the mic.

I'm really hoping for new material, not a re-hashing of the old.

The new will come and they will still play the old since they are Live. Hopefully the older songs they choose to play are the more obscure songs like the handful they did on the 12th (DAOC, TBD, etc). It seems like they are fine with releasing the re-recorded stuff for free and use it as sort of a promotional tool. Not a bad idea.

Same can't be said for E-Kizzle. He won't play his new music and he can't stop playing Live songs and using the name of a Live hit for his tour name.

Ed always plays his new music along with classic LIVE.

Creating lesser studio versions of LIVE songs is a truly embarrassing move by CCP. They don't even try to make the distinction that these are new version of classic songs in the play box.

I hope Live will add random songs occasionally to their website. Just to see if we are paying attention.

Just ordered myself the CCCP shirt. Once I get them all to sign it I am going to frame it.

EDIT: I wish they had some old posters to buy.

I remember first hearing these songs in 1994, it feel like I'm hearing them again for the first time. These versions are much better compared to any performance or bootleg from 2000 through 2009, and it isn't even close. It starts with the emotion in the vocals.

Hm... first listen and I'll be honest - whilst he's done a cracking job and it's much better than listening to Ed sing these songs right now, I still can't get the awesomeness of the originals out of my head. Looking forward to see them create some new music and forging a new path with songs that don't have so much history.

My view might change, too, it's worth noting. I remember initially not being sold on KM's vocals or the TGF album. What an absolute knuckle dragging fool I was to think that. Absolute moron! So yeah, future opinions could differ.

When I saw lightning crashes available (the live song that moved me the most) I couldn't wait to listen. But I have to say i'm a bit disappointed....is this studio recording or really good quality bootleg? He sounded a quite squeaky with the first big note (the angel closes her eyes 2nd verse), nailed the big note in the 4th verse (the angel opens her eyes) but then sounded constipated with i can feel it in the 5th.

If this was a simple bootleg recording then its probably not a big deal but I don't think that is good enough for a professional recording. Not yet anyways - I know its a new song for Chris so i know he will get better but for now it needs a bit more work. Plus i'm comparing it to ed at his best so its always going to be a tough challenge.

Though my initial instinct is to hear gold on everything new live does I agree with you here. LC did have some flaws but the thing is that Ed has never been able to replicate his own performance on that album which leads me to believe it was enhanced some way. LC has always sounded terrible when performed live so I don't care as much.

I am still REELING as to how anyone could replace how Ed does the intro to AOY... but Chris did it.

As a fan, what I want now is to meet this new person. What's he like? Is he down to earth or is he arrogant? I guess I haven't looked for an interview but if anyone has a good one so I can learn more about shinn (in 2012) please forward it to me.

My observations, having listened through a few times:

1) I think Shinn does a nice job. Sounds close enough to the original but he puts hs own stamp on it a bit also. I mean honestly, if I go to a Live show, I want I Alone to sound like I Alone. I think he accomplishes that.

2) Although its interesting to hear what Shinn sounds like, I still prefer the originals and would put on the Throwing Copper CD before I would turn to these. TC Ed still blows Shinn away on these songs.

3) To the contrary, CCP have not sounded this good in years. The music truly sounds like they have reawakened and the intensity that has been lacking is back.

4) Whoever marked that version of I Alone as "final" must have been smoking something. The mix is horrible...the drums (especially prevalent with the cymbals) are way too loud, and the transitions between the verse and pre-chorus are not smooth. the other ones I found better, but the mix on I Alone was horrible IMO.
