Well then you just don't like the show. I bet Kelly Clarkson is pretty happy with it. Live would kill for half the success that show gave her over the last 5 years.

Who cares how much success they have from a teeny bopper show? People are laughing at them for even being on it. Nsync had success. Doesn't mean they were respectable. And being on this show is really laughable.

They only want to be radio friendly now? I could've swore they were radio friendly back in the mid 90's. Or did you complain then too?

OK, what band doesn't want to be on the radio. What band doesn't want to make money by getting air play and exposure? And this sell out thing you talk about....this is the year 2006 look around you, bands are in Ads and on cheezy shows everywhere you look. What is so bad about a band putting their song in a commercial? Again would you turn down money just because you don't wanna be a "sell out"? I hate that term it is so stupid and holds no meaning in today society. They are in a business to make a living. And thats what they are doing right now. If you don't like it, thats your problem not theirs.

Jesus!! Valleygirl is just giving an opinion. Take it easy man (or woman)!! I don't understand why people get so bent out of shape on this board. That's why I stopped posting for long time. And I beg to differ on your opinion of "selling out". Not all bands do that and I think that term holds a lot of meaning. Not all bands are like Nickelback and Linkin Park. Some bands still consider music an art.(Tool,Radiohead) Very few do though. Obviously the commercial path is gonna bring more money and that's what the top dogs want but some bands limit the amount that they sell out. Any person recognizes that the music industry is a business and that musicians want to live comfortably and make money. I don't see anything wrong with that but when bands sacrifice the quality of their art for the sake of money, Im sorry I have a real problem with that. To me that's what separates good bands from great bands or good bands from bad bands. In a lot of ways this selling out also hurts their careers because I think they'll get so caught up in conflicts with their record companies. The record companies will want the same type of album again and again because it made them money and the musicians will usually sacrifice their artistic vision or water it down to appease their record company so that money keeps coming in. I feel that the band Creed was a victim of this. They started off promising but ended as joke in my opinion. Then the music is just a product, the musicians are just entertainers and not artists. For me, entertainment is cool sometimes. But I like to view music as an art. If I wanted entertainment, then I'll go to the circus and watch the clowns juggle some balls. All this aside, I respect your opinion ( I really do) and don't be mad. I'm not trying to offend you. Let's all remember, were here because we love/like the band Live! thumbsup.gif

I heard that Chris Daughtry will be performing along with Live, but I'm not sure if it will be during "Mystery" or if they plan on doing something else together. They'll definately be on there Wednesday though, I'm not sure why it hasn't been officially announced yet. huh.gif

According to both Ed and Pat, they will be performing "Mystery" with Chris. No "Walk the Line" or anything else will be played. They'll be rehearsing the song with Chris in L.A., in-between their Utah show (on the 20th) and their San Francisco show (on the 23rd).

Review from The (Boston) Patriot Ledger newspaper
Out of obscurity, Live does potent show
By JAY N. MILLER
Review from The (Boston) Patriot Ledger newspaper

It’s been a while since the band Live has been anywhere near the top of the charts, and the York, Pa., quartet will seldom be confused with hip, critical darlings.

Yet they’re back on the scene just as solid as ever in support of their first album in three years, ‘‘Songs From Black Mountain,’’ due for a June 13 release on Epic.

The sold-out crowd of 2,000 at Avalon in Boston Friday night couldn’t have been happier, either. They roared and sang along through a potent 105-minute show that was heavy with cuts from the new CD and their breakthrough second album, 1994’s ‘‘Throwing Copper,’’ which sold 12 million copies and spawned three No. 1 singles.

Live songwriter Ed Kowalczyk has a knack for writing hooks amid anthemic mainstream rockers with just a hint of heavy-metal dynamics. Some of his songs are deceptively simple, while many others carry a mystical feeling. Of course, there’s nothing like a little spiritual content to send the hipness police scurrying in the opposite direction. At his best, Kowalczyk can approach U2-like power, while his lesser efforts are more Bon Jovi without the charisma.

Most of Friday’s show boasted the better side of Live, and when the band launched into ‘‘All Over You’’ as the night’s second number, the crowd responded to the tune’s rocking fervor. ‘‘Selling the Dream’’ continued that ‘‘Throwing Copper’’ streak, again to a huge response from the throng, most of whom seemed, like the band, to be in their early 30s.

Kowalczyk, his shaven head gleaming in the spotlight, introduced a song from the forthcoming album, and the acoustic guitar center of ‘‘The River’’ made it a rare moment of quiet before the chorus pumped it up to rock levels. The new ‘‘Mystery’’ was a full-bore mainstream rocker, with piercing leads from guitarist Chad Taylor enhancing Kowalczyk’s impassioned vocal.

The new power ballad ‘‘Stood Up for Love’’ rode some more of those impressive dynamics, but here the lyrics fell into cliché: ‘‘Home is where the heart is.’’ Really?

One of the night’s most memorable moments came when Live did its version of the Johnny Cash classic ‘‘I Walk the Line,’’ starting it as a dark, spare ballad and kicking it up into a throbbing rocker. (There has been a mini-controversy since an ‘‘American Idol’’ contestant sang the song with a very similar arrangement, but Live has said they hold no animosity.)

The new tune ‘‘Wings’’ also began quietly, as a rootsy acoustic ballad, before cascading power chords pushed it into anthemic rock territory. ‘‘Lightning Crashes,’’ one of the No. 1 hits from their breakthrough, prompted a massive sing-along.

‘‘Dolphins Cry,’’ the band’s last big hit way back in 1999, and ‘‘I Alone’’ pretty much drove the crowd to sing-along, air-guitar ecstasy. The new ‘‘Last Show’’ was a power ballad elevated by pulsating rhythms, showcasing the kind of grit Kowalczyk can bring to a simple song. ‘‘Overcome,’’ however, treaded the tightrope between rock and pop treacle a bit too close for comfort.

But a rousing visit to ‘‘(Spit) Towne’’ highlighted the encore, and the night ended with a sweetly soulful ‘‘Dance With You.’’

Live clearly reveled in the Avalon crowd’s adoration, expanding their original set list with a couple of extra tunes during the encore.

OK, just to summarize the majority of the posts on this thread about Live playing Live in front of more than 30 million people on the message board that is supposed to be for fans of the band...

It's the end of the band.

It's Live's low point to perform on the number one show of the last decade 2 weeks before their album is released.

V sucked and was a joke.

The always mandatory "Live wrote better music 15 years ago" that has to appear in every single fucking thread.

The party is over for Live.

The band sucks.

The band sold out.

Ed will get criticized by the judges because he can't sing.

Other people are idiots, assclowns, fuckwits and flaming homos and should be treated unkindly.

People jumping all over each other, taking the thread off topic, throwing personal insults at each other.

I don't know why I even care, but this is exactly why I am disgusted at what has happened to this message board.

I'm not sure how they will work it, but needless to say I'm very excited/nervous. I'm hoping the performance goes flawlessly. The big question is will Epic release the single simultaneously with the performance? If the song isn't available for download and radio airplay, the whole American Idol cross-promotion will have gone to waste.

Agreed! They need to have the single available or available the next day.

I hope the show really pimps Live and gives them special attention before the performance, like a little clip on the career of Live, so the audience knows who they're watching. They could show a video montage of Live w/ the narrator saying "With countless radio singles hitting the airwaves, #1 albums around the globe, and over 20 million albums sold worldwide", and the video would show clips of concerts and music videos. It would be like a 30 second commercial for Live.

As for how the song will work, I can picture the song starting off with a full strings section in the background, blue lighting, and the spotlight shines on the band with Gracey playing the drums and wearing a "Chris Rocks" shirt. lol.gif That would sell records! Ed will sing the first verse until Chris walks out to a loud ovation and sings "Oh, how it deepens, Oh, how it deepens... You're mysterreeeeey" but instead of singing in falsetto, he'll just sing it as loud as possible w/out the false... After the first chorus, they'll skip the 2nd verse and go into "Mine eyes have seen the worst inside of man", with Ed pointing at Simon. They'll cut the song to about a minute and a half, but will end with a standing ovation from the 3 judges, although the audience and Paula will already be standing for the whole song. kicking.gif
