I'm wondering if it was tough for them to end with TBD? I'm guessing they were wishing they had a mulligan. I love the song choice, but that was probably one they would want back. At one point Chris could not get untangled from the mic stand - then I think it stopped working. Got frustrated and went to Chad's mic but it was down to low. Finally went over to the bull horn and was about to sing and then threw it down and basically said enough. Mistakes are expected and I love the fact that he was searching for anyway to finish the song off proper. Pat's bass intro is classic.

This is how we did not want to go out tonight. Sorry I could not resist...

Yeah it's a great f'n song but won't ever be an amazing closer. If they had ended the set after I Alone, then came out and played TBD into White, Discussion, THAT would have been killer.

I did think they brought it at the end of TBD though, so I didn't leave with a bad taste in my mouth. The best moments for me came towards the beginning of the set (DAOC, LJ, Sparkle, and Freaks) so I admit that I was cruising a little after that. Enjoying myself like crazy but still cruising a bit.

I liked the set list but would have gladly traded Lightning Crashes and Selling the Drama for a Mental Jewelry classic or Iris/Stage. To me those two songs don't really fit with this new version of Live. I imagine the set lists will get a lot crazier when they move to a full set of music.

After CG being put behind the glass for 10 years it is probably a good thing they didn't play Iris. He would have unleashed 10 years of awesome and the first two rows would have been vaporized.

Mate, you must agree with me, that those two mentioned songs are pretty hard to perform.

If by "pretty hard to perform" you mean "two of the best songs they've ever made" then I totally agree with you. hehe.gif

That's exactly why it would be awesome to see them pull those out now.

With a cover singer.......I thought some people called Ed a legacy act. By the looks at the setlist, what is LIVE 2.0?

WTF - you knew they were not playing new songs yesterday night - you were told in other threads, you claimed you were curious - and then you spewed out this shit about the setlist.

You are an ass face fuck wad!

Some fans will be happy, other fans will reject them replacing Ed and keeping the name LIVE. The setlist isn't much different than a show with Ed.

It will further split the fanbase.

If by split you mean that you split - then awesome.

I'm excited to hear some audio so I can give the updated crew my own listen!

Anyone disappointed at the lack of new music?

No - since it was expected before they even took the stage.

Plus - I see no problem with Live performing anything from THEIR library, unlike a former lead singer who left to "pursue a new direction" but loves to play predominately what he left behind.

And Chad Taylor said he doesn't want LIVE to become a legacy band......

Oh boy. Where to begin.

I arrived at the Strand Theater at 6:00 in time for the reception in the lobby. The band and the sponsors and whomever else was responsible for the hospitality at this special event spared no expense in providing ample delicious food for the attendees. Little hand carved flank steak sandwiches. Vegatables. Meatballs. Mac and Cheese. And extavagant desert table. The room was packed full of local dignitaries, politicians, friends and family of the band and fans. Everybody was in a peak state of mind. It was pretty high energy. Maybe that was because there was 50 people in line at the bar at all times and everyone wanted a drink. But I think it was because the city, the friends, the family and especially the fans were all there to honor this band and celebrate Live.

I immediately saw the FOL crew, hanging around close to the theater doors, with Zman at the center of it all. Everyone was hoping that The Thrill would remember to come usher the fans into the theater early to get front row seats. Never to be doubted as a man of his word, The Thrill (who was very busy rushing around taking care of things as a sponsor) broke from his duties 15minutes before the doors opened to the general public to greet all of the fans and usher us into the theater so we could get our prime position. I met some cool people and found a seat in the second row center. To this point, I had no camera with me.

The media credentials were on tight lock down and I didn't think that I would get to shoot the show.

First up was Adam Taylor. An awesome show! That was my first time seeing him and he is really terrific. After Adam's set, I decided to talk to the nice people at the front of the venue and see if I could get my camera from my car. Fortunately, I was able to get it in, and I got myself all set up for what was about to happen.

Kevin Martin and Sean Hennessy played an acoustic set of some Candlebox songs. That was simply awesome. Memphis is a joy to watch perform and Kevin's vocals are just insane. I saw him perform with TGF, which was loud and high energy. To see this guy sing with two acoustic guitars gives you a new appreciation for his vocal talent. They opened with Cover me. Just wow. Kevin is huge when he lets into this song. He was soulful, with huge range and emotion. Their rendition of Far Behind was incredible. What may have possibly been one of the best aspects of the night was Kevin Martin as story teller. He sat on that seat and told stories about the 1990's, when he first met the members of Live and their families. How Chad Taylor's dad went into his dressing room at Woodstock and took his beers and said "It's OK, I'm Chad's dad" and Kevin was like "Chad who? Who is this guy?" He talked about what great people CCP are and how much he approves of their soon-to-be announced lead singer. He complimented Sean Hennesy. He spoke of the meaning of Far Behind. He talked about York and the community. He was really gracious, personable, funny and charning. I have never met Kevin, but I am a bigger fan after this performance.

By the way, Kevin said "It is my dream for Candlebox, The Gracious few and live to tour together".

I was very disappointed that Fish didn't have a mohawk and that he didn't flip everyone off the whole time.

My review continued.

So the band said that they wanted the hard core fans from this message board up front so that they can feed off of our energy. At least that is what I heard. Now I was at the last show at the Strand in 2004 and that show had very little energy. I remember sitting in my seat in the theater watching the show. Well this time, the band knew what it was doing cause all of us in the first couple of rows were not going to sit down all night. Fists in the air, screaming our head off, standing up... the people behind us had no choice. They had to stand up. And THE WHOLE THEATER WAS STANDING FOR THE ENTIRE SHOW. The energy level made the show. And I will get there in this review, but it is true that Chris forgot the lyrics to several songs. He also seemed a little nervous and tentative at times - this being his first time fronting this band before an audience. in front of their families, their friends, their biggest fans, the press, the community. Now I may have been dreaming this, but I think that Chris was looking to Zman and others in the front row to sing along and feed him the energy and the support that pushed him farther and farther into the performance.

The lights went down and the synthesizer started. It became apparent that it was The Dam At Otter Creek. The band took the stage in the dark. At this point the place was going nuts. I had so much excitement coursing through me that I swear I was shaking. I was literally shaking uncontrollably and I couldn't hold my camera still. I had goosebumps. I was proud of CCP. I was excited. And I felt like I was witnessing something special and unique. The nice lady next me told me that she was tearing up.

When the new unannounced lead singer took the stage, and they began to perform Dam At Otter Creek, he stayed in a silhouette. You just saw this through the beginning of the song...

IPB Image

IPB Image

IPB Image

Gee. Who could that guy be? I know his name starts with a "C" from the T shirt I saw in the lobby.

Then the "big reveal". The spotlights went up and the band was RIPPING a rendition of Dam aAt Otter Creek that would tear your socks off. I mean these guys were like wild animals let out of a cage. Honestly, the first song of the night was the best song and the best moment of the whole night. The band was roaring. They were tight. They was pumped to be there. They were clearly trying to make a statement right out of the gate that Live was back, that they were proud and excited to perform with their new lead singer, and it was all for the music, the fans, the families and the community. Holy sh*t I have never seen a performance like The Damn At Otter Creek. Chris was running around with the megaphone and posing and screaming, and there was stomping and drumming and guitars ripping. The crowd was insane. What a way to start a concert!

Next up was All over you and then Lakini's Juice. I could see it coming, because the green glow of Ruby Lou being handed to Chad Taylor made it obvious. They played Lakini's Juice a little slower than usual, and if I could make a recommendation - if anything they should play it faster! Especially after the energy of the first two songs.

Chris Shinn brings tremendous energy and passion. He was screaming and singing and stalking around the stage like a tiger in a cage. This is how Live was supposed to perform for the last 10 years.

There are a lot of great cover singers out there. Last night he sang 11 songs that he had no part in creating. How is he not a cover singer?

as much as I try to stay on the fence with you...

it's impossible

you deserve all the abuse you get!

and then some!

now you have to start on Chris Shinn,

you have zero respect

that dude has incredible talent rockin.gif

and more importantly

his ego won't get in the way of the band..

and when Candlebox, The Gracious Few and +LIVE+ tour,

and make lots of $$$$$$

you will be here bitching and whining like the skirt you are

Did I mention that Chris forgot the lyrics to White Discussion and he asked Zman on stage to help him out? So Zman jumps up there, sings a line or two, and then Chris (jokingly) tells him to get the F out of here. It went down like this:
