Say what you want about Idol, but the fact is that this is HUGE for Live. A lot of people watch Idol you can't deny that fact. This is GREAT promotion for the album, and anyone who doesn't agree is a complete idiot.

Funny how they took one quote and generalize it to be the all the "fans" of Live's opinion.
The clueless rolleyes.gif don't know that a lot of people like Mystery or if its not their fav, understand why its the next single for radio.

I agree 100%. And as i shamefully admitted on another thread i'm an idol junkie. Hey, I love watching and judging people sing.

And banana.gif now I get to see my fav band on the show and get to introduce Live to my dumb ass friends who only listen to R&B/ Hip hop. Such narrow minded asses, but I love them though, despite their dreadful taste in music.

Also, the Chairman of Sony/BMG is the guy that has been a guest on AI the last few episodes, I forget his name.

I have mixed feelings with this. On one side, it's great exposure for a band that's forgotten about. That show gets an amazing 30 million viewers. The unfortunate part is, its American-bubblegum-Idol.

QUOTE(Lively Chick @ May 20 2006, 9:30 pm) *

Well I think you are wrong.

1. See we do know what was said. He did not give them credit, as I posted in another thread. It was NOT EDITED OUT. That's why the following week Seacrest sat down with Chris before he sang and asked if the version he song was not his and really Live's arrangement which he admitted and acknowledge that Live was his fav band.

2. You still did not give a sufficient reason why they would book Live other than because of the controversy.

Well I think you are wrong.

1. You haven't the slightest idea what was edited out and what wasn't. You haven't the slightest idea if Live was offended. You haven't the slightest idea whether Live complained to the producers of AI. You haven't given any indication why the producers of AI would even care about whether Live was offended by someone OTHER than themselves. You haven't shown anything that would indicate that there was some sort of "deal" cut, other than the fact that Live is doing the show.

2. I'm not pretending that I know why Live is being booked. Maybe Sony is just smart and realizes that with an album coming out in a couple of weeks (in theory), they might as well get their artist booked on the most watched show on television. As I stated, its clear that Fox or AI aren't relying on outside musical acts for their ratings, otherwise they'd be promoting it. You are assuming that Fox/Idol chose to book Live, rather than Live choosing to book themselves on AI to promote their forthcoming album. Do you think that TV shows chase down musical artists, coincidentally at the same time they are promoting records? Or rather does a good publicist make sure his/her artist is booked on the late night circuit, etc.?

3. Sony (or whomever) getting Live booked is tantamount to purchasing advertising on the highest rated show on television. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if getting that slot did require an actual purchase of time. Hmm, wonder why they'd be interested in that??

Well said. Regardless of whether you like Idol or not, having tens of millions of people check out Live before the album comes out cannot be a bad thing.

At the Chicago show the other night during a song (forget which one) Ed says Chad show me what you'd do if you were on American fucking Idol.

and Chad proceeds to go into a guitar riff.

maybe some other concertgoers could back me up on this.
was it just the Chicago show? or others also?

certainly the guys knew they'd be playing on the show by then.

Not to mention, the "controversy" was also a stroke of marketing genius. They got Access Hollywood and the like talking about Live. Its the most publicity they have had in the US in like 10 years. If anyone actually did complain or make a stink about it, it was probably done on purpose. A manufactured controversy to publicize the band using the single greatest access to the music-buying public on television. I love it.

Ed himself said in a radio interview during the week that there was NO controversy after the "Walk the Line" incident. He said it didn't bother them because it was a cover song to begin with. And that it would've been diffrent had it been a song like Lightning Crashes. He also says he's been talking a lot to Chris giving him pointers and what not. So I do believe they are doing it because of he is a huge Live fan and this is a great way to promote the new album.
