At any rate, your estimations are grossly exaggerated. They really don't have that many fans left to lose, they've got way more to reinvigorate.

SFBM was an indie release and sold twice as much as TGF and Alive did combined. While the album wasn't a commercial success, the band's accompanying tour drew packed houses each night.

I believe that Ed and CCP reached a point where they no longer wanted to work together. Ed wanted to make one style of music, and his bandmates wanted to make another. They also toured basically non-stop the last few years of their existence, and I'm sure grew quite sick of each other.

That's great, but it's a complete shit cd compared to the first 4 albums.

Live management sided with Ed, because that lying weasel got Ed locked into the contract and agreements that screwed the other 3. I am willing to bet that the other 3 guys want nothing to do with the old management that followed Ed.

Ed did change, he stabbed his friends in the back, he didn't out grow them.

Ed's manager is the biggest heel here......he's the one charged with upsetting the applecart and getting Ed to commit treason. I would surmise that he's one that would not be welcomed back in any case.

I have no idea what the new Live will sound like, but I really hope they would never consider bringing Ed back into the fold. As a brother sure, but musically I believe he is beyond repair.

If Ed wanted to make a different style of music why does he continually say that Alive is reminiscent of Throwing Copper, the spirit of Live continues with his band, yada, yada, yada. He says he wanted to do something different yet he claims the result is the same as what he did with Live. We all know better.The only truth is that he couldn't work with CCP anymore. Funny how those 3 managed keep things together yet he couldn't. Face it, he wants to be solo. That's what he wants to do differently. He doesn't want to collaborate in a band setting. It's not about making different music to him, although he is clearly not making the same music. I wonder why it's not the same. Hmm...something missing maybe? If he could bust out another TC you know he would. He can't without CCP. The chances of getting something like that are much greater with a new singer that will surrender to the band concept of creating music and embrace the philosophy of Live that's being discussed in that thread.

Ed coming back to Live and writing WITH them like they used to do, not sticking Jesus, God and Bread into every song and acting like he wants to be a pop star - that would be a pretty great scenario. But my hopes are pretty low on that.
Imagine how fantastic CCP would suddenly be in Nick's eyes if Ed one day played with them again, suddenly to him they could do no wrong again!

But who knows if it will really be the best case for everyone, new Live might come along and smash it out of the park and that might be the new thing that most of us want instead? (please for the love of god don't bring up how CCP+Ed would sell more than CCP+CS, what is "best" for everyone is not judged on fucking sales). Sometimes you have a lover who you may love for years and years, but then things go bad, you might have fond memories, but things still go bad. Then you meet someone new and they become amazing and you love them. The old lover coming back isn't as straight forward.

The funny thing is, could any of us here imagine in the mid 90s sitting here talking this much shit about Ed? Again, it just shows how far he has fallen in so many people's eyes.
