QUOTE(themaestro @ Mar 4 2012, 10:43 am) *

When the Live train gets rolling again the venues that are booking him based on his association with Live will no longer do so. There will no longer be a market for the former lead singer of Live when they can see the real Live kicking ass again. Sorry Nick, this is true. I said this in another thread before his acoustic shows were even announced. He'll be relegated to doing acoustic and ultimately end up playing coffee shops unless he has something spectacular up his sleeve with Album 2. He's going to have to establish himself beyond Live if he wants any career. He's withering away as I type.

They are booking him because he is the voice of LIVE and he is doing LIVE songs. Ed solo acoustic is more of an authentic LIVE experience than the rest of the band and a cover singer.

you're just trying to be Ed's schill. Wipe off your chin.

The a good majority of fans will welcome the next chapter, and that's ok. Those who never question their idols or authority....can continue on the same ole.

Yes, they are booking him right now because of his association with Live. Thank you captain obvious. That will end as soon as Live establishes itself without Ed. Mark my words, his days of pimping Live will be over. No booking agent is going to book him to draw Live fans when Live is doing that. Sorry to inform you, but your dinghy is anchored to a sinking ship.

An "authentic Live experience", with one person, yeah that's what we all thought, Live = Ed.

Restarting a band with a new lead singer is a very risky proposition, and most bands don't even try to do it. LIVE toured with the same lineup for nearly 20 years, replacing its most recognizable member with a total unknown is going to very difficult. I'm sure some fans will be supportive of new LIVE, but they will face a pretty harsh backlash from others.

Ed Kowalczyk will always be the frontman most associate with LIVE and will be able to tour for as long as he chooses to continue to do so. Remember it is much cheaper and easier to do a solo acoustic show than a full band rock show. CCP always have to rely on the latter and Ed has the flexibility to do both.

Man, you really can't see the forest for the trees. I'm not even saying this as some pro CCP or anti EK thing. Remove your attachment to Ed for one moment and maybe you'll get it. Booking agents don't have an emotional attachment, at least they shouldn't if their primary goal is to make money for their club. That's why they are booking EK based on his association with Live. Live is currently not doing anything. They have a good fan base. It makes sense to book based on that. Nobody knows who the hell Ed Kowalczyk is with out associating Live. Take that away and book solely on Ed's post Live stuff and he's dead in the water. Now, when Live is active again, why in the hell would someone book Ed to play Live songs? Live will instantly outdraw Ed. Period. Live trumps all. The band, not Ed, established itself for 20 years. Booking agents aren't even going to give him a chance if Live comes anywhere near their market. It doesn't make sense to try to compete with Live for Live fans. Maybe some small clubs that figure to draw some serious EK fans like yourself, but they will no longer consider Ed's Live draw when booking him when Live is currently active. Period, end of story.

Recognizable member, risky proposition .. Jesus Christ dude its music, not a brand, not a business. Who gives a shit if some people don't recognise anyone but Ed? Who gives a shit if some people dont like it? So long as it sounds good! And believe it or not, music can sound good without Ed Kowalczyk. The guys are past the stage of wanting to rule the music world, I'm sure they'd be happy still playing to smaller but enthusiastic fans. God when will you stop taking something that is art and trying to fit it into a business model? There is an element of that but you act like its the be all and end all. Surely you're in the wrong business of gym teacher, you should have been a blood sucking record exec for Sony or something where you could spend your day whoring out talent.

Jesus, he'd be a terrible record exec. You've got to have some business sense and remove your emotional attachment. Doesn't matter how much you worship someone. If every record label, club, whatever, got behind only the stuff they personally liked they'd all fail. Well, many are failing anyway. The point is, he pretends to know all this stuff about music but he's really just a crazed fan.

Very few bands have ever successfully replaced their lead singer without death being the factor:

http://rock.about.com/od/top10lists/tp/Roc...LeadSingers.htm

LIVE should outdraw Ed in some markets on name alone. That doesn't mean Ed solo won't draw enough for Ed to play and be successful. Many fans would rather here the actual voice and chief songwriter of the band LIVE over CCP and an unknown cover singer.

Fuel with chief songwriter and lead guitarist, Carl Bell, did so poorly with a new singer that he eventually sold rights back to original singer Bret Scallions, who is doing fairly well with the new version of Fuel.

My money is on Ed.

Live will out draw Ed in every market on name alone, by a long shot. You can bet all you want, doesn't change the fact that Ed has done nothing to establish himself beyond Live. That's the real problem. He's hanging his hat on Live. I'm sure he was banking on (just like you) Live folding up without him. Guess what. They aren't. That puts a serious dent in his fan base. Most fans are not aware of things the way we are here and they don't have as much of an attachment either way. Ed's continual reliance on Live to sell his shows will ultimately be his death. Like I said, this has nothing to do with what I think about him or his music. He'd be very wise to differentiate his new material from Live, start drawing fans for that, as well as being the former Live guy. Just playing up the Live factor alone will not work once they are back.

He can tour market his new tour as Ed Kowalczyk, former lead singer of LIVE, and do just fine. The acoustic tour will give fans a different type of show than the rock show that new LIVE will offer. Ed also has been touring hard in international markets and is constantly gaining new fans worldwide.

CCP and their fans should focus on making new LIVE more successful and lasting than The Gracious Few. That is a realistic goal. Putting Ed out of business is not.
