Sounds good. I saw the trio before in Atlantic City, and it was a great show. Have you ever been to the venue Zman?

Absolutely, positively, fucking NOT!!! Thanks for asking though.

Not sure what sort of redeeming value I'd get for going. Can't anyway.

Thank you for the offer, but I wouldn't even take free EK tickets. Can not, will not show any support after what that man has done.

By MELANIE VANDERVEER
For the Pocono Record
February 17, 2012

Ed Kowalczyk, former lead singer of the popular group Live, is now doing his own thing.

He left the band in 2009 to begin a new chapter in his career and loves the direction it's going in. The married father of three girls released his first solo album in 2010, and is touring, giving the fans the songs they love, "Lightning Crashes," "I Alone" and all his new songs.
IF YOU GO

WHAT: Live's Ed Kowalczyk

WHEN: 8 p.m. Saturday

WHERE: Gypsies Lounge and Nightclub in Mount Airy Casino Resort, Paradise Township

COST: $25, $40

INFORMATION: 877-468-7619

WEBSITE: www.mountairycasino.com

He will be making a stop in the Poconos at Gyspies Lounge and Nightclub at Mount Airy Casino Resort on Saturday. He had some time to chat with the Pocono Record about his solo career and what's next for him.

Was it a big adjustment going from working with a band to being on your own?

Ed Kowalczyk: I really eased right into it. Being the singer and the main songwriter of Live for so many years the biggest change for me was changing personnel and new people with new ideas after doing it the same way for so many years. The timing was perfect for me, and it was a natural progression into a new phase. The most important part was the fans responded well.

Tell me about your first solo album, "Alive."

EK: It came out in the summer of 2010. I feel like the whole movement of this period of my career is getting people reconnected. The record itself is really kind of like me being me again to the intensity of what I was doing in the mid-90s, so that was really great to hear. The message is universal and hopefully a message of hope and peace. It's definitely a rock record.

Are you currently working on any new material?

EK: I am; a little bit here and there, but I still feel like this is part of the process of touring. There are still new things happening there. I'm mixing the writing process and touring.

What can people expect from your Mount Airy show? Will you be doing Live songs as well as your newer stuff?

EK: Yes, absolutely. I'll be doing 75 to 90 minutes, and that's covering my history as a songwriter. I touch base with all those songs and also a pretty good job at introducing people to where I am now as a writer. It's a show that is kind of the full spectrum. Come on out to Mount Airy and experience the new depth now. We'll rock you.

You played a waiter in the movie "Fight Club" a while back. Do you think they'll be more acting gigs in your future?

EK: That was one of those things that kind of happened. It was a happy accident. I'm always open to things that push me in different directions, and it was really done for fun. I would consider working in movies again, but it has to be the right one and it has to fall out of the sky.

What's been the best part of your career so far?

EK: What's amazing is how much success I've enjoyed in music, I still feel like the deepest moments are yet to come. I don't sit around and say, 'Oh the good old days.' They are amazing great times but as an artist you have an inherent duty to look forward. The last thing I want to do is dwell on it and celebrate the past too much that you forget the future.

What's next for you?

EK: That's part of the fun of this new chapter. I'm not 100 percent sure. The means by which we are delivering music is changing all the time, so I always keep my antenna up to get new music released.

I still have lots of demand of touring. I'm just really going with the flow and that's a totally different approach than I had in my years in Live. That was more structured record cycle tour cycle, a routine. I'm playing acoustic shows now and I love to do that. I am writing music. It's going with the flow.
