I listened to the whole record on Spotify. I'll definitely get it. I think there are 12 tracks, and so far I like 6, but the others may grow on me in time, except for Tattoo. I still feel it's a terrible song and by far the weakest song on the record. Can't even believe why someone would release that as the first single.

The older version I have of tattoo, is much heavier. the producer made this version more popier. His forte......I still don't.like it. The rest, love it.

Tattoo is the closest thing to a radio single that there is on this album. It is the only thing that you can say is in the same genre sphere as Jump. The other song that could potentially be a single is Bloood and Fire (which I can't get out of my head). The rest of the album melted my face off and set my hair on fire. It is really heavy. Lots of guitars and drums and bass. It sounds nothing like Tattoo. If anything, they turned away hard core VH fans by choosing Tattoo as the first single. I love this whole thing. It did me a favor. I am not even thinking about new Live anymore. I am just enjoying Van Halen right now. I listen to this album and I am 18 again. I am now bench pressing 475 pounds and the other day, I played this album and Chuck Norris tried to friend me on Facebook and asked if he can carry my lunch tray for me. Then Giselle called and said that she was leaving Tom Brady so that she could have a threesome with me and my wife. Everything is better with A Different Kind of Truth. If you don't like this album, you are objectively and verifiably wrong.

Or you're not obsessed with reliving your past. The picture you paint of these glorious youthful times sounds rather pathetic. Yeah, I remember those days. I lived it too. It was great. I can pop in VH 1984 and I'm instantly transported to the days when I first got my license and installed a jamming cassette player to crank my VH. So on the rare occasion that I hear a VH song on the radio or I spin 1984, it brings a nice smile to my face. That's about it. I have no need to connect so deeply with those times. Life is great right now. I'm still as youthful as ever. Life is my oyster. Plenty of new music to discover and be inspired by the same way I was back then. Only now I don't need to go around displaying my testosterone level to the chicks as I drive by in my Trans Am with the t-tops off in my muscle shirt fresh from my trip to the gym and the tanning spa dripping with the fresh scent of Drakkar Noir. Happy that this VH can take you to that happy place, but your insistence that everyone should like this as you do is entirely based on your need to relive your youth.

Lighten up Francis. I would hope that you could see that my tongue was firmly implanted in cheek. For your sake, I hope you don't take yourself that seriously and you are kidding and don't think that I am literally reliving my youth and literally think everyone should like this. This album is good and fun and I am celebrating it. I love to squeeze every drop of fun out of life. I hate to explain a joke, but my silly comments in my last post were an homage to the Amazon reviews of the Three Wolves shirt. If you haven't seen that, Google it or look it up on Amazon. I was using hyperbole for comedic effect. Just having a little fun.

No, I haven't seen those reviews. Jokes on me I guess. But you've had several other posts exclaiming your love for this an the memories it conjures up, so I tend to think there's a bit of truth to it. Anyway, glad you like it. Not my cup of tea. That's about it.

I don't think Giselle goes for the meatheads. Not if she's with this guy.

Maestro, you're missing Fish's humor. Do listen to the other 12 tracks and skip the first. I'll have to upload the demos for ya

Yeah, I guess I am. Not that my post was 100% serious either. I don't really think he's a Trans Am driving, muscle shirt wearing, tanned meathead wearing Drakkar Noir. As for the demos, that's all they really are right? I mean, if they were that great this stuff would have been recorded and released a long time ago. In fact, that's what these songs sound like. Stuff that wasn't really good enough for an album release. Maybe b-side material. That's what you've got, with a 57 year old trying to sing the stuff like he did 35 years ago.

6 tracks are new, the other 7 were not released due to all the mumbo jumbo with the roth fallings out, now they're rerecorded.....they're good enough for VH back in the day but they chose to leave em for later.

Just like we'll have with the Live vaulted stuff....hopefully. in a package

Would anyone be that excited if Ed and Live re-recorded their old unreleased stuff right now and released it as new music. No. Ed's not the same signer. Neither is Dave, and Michaels gone. It's not the same. They should have just packaged the demos and any other stuff they could as a rarities. Instead everyone is getting all worked up as if it's the 1980's again. I don't think anyone would be fooled into thinking it's 1995 again if Live worked with Ed on new or old stuff. I think most would like to have the old Live stuff as it is. Not sure why it should be any different with VH. Think about it this way, would you say that if Ed recorded right now with Live and they re-recorded some old unreleased stuff and threw in 6 new songs on the level of Believe you'd say it stacked up to what they did in the 90's? I doubt it.

I have to laugh at the absurdity of thinking VH is somehow back like it's 1985. Just like I laugh at the thought of Live moving on with a new singer for 10 -15 years only to have Ed come back in 2025 and suddenly Live recapturing what they had in 1995. Seems pretty nutty to think about right now but that's what everyone is proclaiming about VH.

Van Halen Fighting For #1 Album

February 10, 2012 / 128 Comments

According to Billboard, Van Halen’s new album, A Different Kind Of Truth, is SO CLOSE to debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, but their album sales are neck and neck with Adele’s “21″:

Van Halen might be on its way to a sixth career No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart — unless Adele’s “21″ stands in the veteran band’s way.

Industry sources suggest that Van Halen’s “A Different Kind of Truth” may sell about 180,000 to 200,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Feb. 12. Under normal circumstances, that would be enough for the recently-signed Interscope act to bump Queen Adele from the top slot.

However, this isn’t a normal week. The 54th Grammy Awards take place on Feb. 12, at 8-11:30 PM on CBS — where Adele is scheduled to perform. The artist is nominated for six Grammys this year, and the performance will mark her first since undergoing surgery last year on her vocal chords. Further, Adele will sit down with Anderson Cooper for an interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes” immediately before the Grammys.

It’s certainly possible that whatever buzz is generated by Adele on Grammy night — the final day of the tracking week for next week’s Billboard 200 — could engineer a big gain in sales for “21.” This past week, the set shifted 122,000 (up 5% according to Nielsen SoundScan) in its 19th nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

If Van Halen does reach No. 1, it will be the band’s first chart-topping studio set with reunited frontman David Lee Roth.

It's also available in vinyl:

I thought chart talk was for Nick. lol.gif Of course it's going to sell well, it's the return of Dave. People have been dreaming about this for years. Plus, Eddie's a living legend. Those facts alone are helping quite a bit. Nearly everyone agrees that Tattoo sucks but it obviously didn't hurt anything. Maybe someone is a genius for releasing it first. Compared to Tattoo, the rest of the album is great. That's a pretty lame standard though and there is no way this album would be getting the same reception minus 28 years of anticipation. It serves a purpose for those that have been waiting for so long. That's about it.
