Ya - I like the song but like I said the 2 Meter version just seems to have a little more to it.

Over time with Live I've seemed to notice there are a lot of songs THEY release that I like but find that I like the concert recorded versions better.

A great thanks for this! I didn't know that and it's just awesome! I really enjoyed! kicking.gif They are brilliant, even in a more acoustic setting. And the songs are also really good. I realize that I still listen to their album in my car almost everyday. It's really an exceptional album and I hope that it won't be the only production of these guys together because they did something magical, like Live did in the 90s!

Copied from thegraciousfans.com by someone named Gracious_Cory. I didn't listen to the song compared to these lyrics, so I don't know if they're right.

Great Houses (studio lyrics updated)

So the previous lyrics I had were from the Cinci recording. Now that there is a studio release of it I updated the lyrics.

If you ain’t careful son this glass, it's gonna bleed ya
It cuts you deep the bits and pieces leave ya dreamin’
Put up a fuss they lock you out, must be mistaken
You’d sell your soul to come home
They ain’t buying noooo

Great houses do fall, yeah
Oooooh oooooh

About the time they saw ya coming
It was way to late, huh?
Your little whistle chased ‘em out
But you ain’t safe no
Your snoring sleep and resting deep
It’s the wickets way in
You sold your soul to rolling stone
It’s all your dealing

Great houses do fall, yeah
Don’t slum alone
Great houses do fall, yeah
Great houses do fall
Ooooohh oooooh

You dance around to fool the clown
You spic 'n span huh?
Again picks up, Again puts down
And keeps on runnin'
You cut the tongue to hush 'em up
They still speakin'
Another cuts to close your tongue
Your throat is [sinnin'?]

Great houses do fall, yeah
Don't slum alone
Great houses do fall
Don't slum alone
Don't slum alone
Don't slum alone
Great houses do fall
Don't slum alone
Don't slum alone
Don't slum alone, no
Great houses do fall, yeah

Don't slum alone
Great houses do fall, yeah
Don't slum alone
Great houses do fall
Don't slum alone
Don't slum alone
Don't slum alone
Great houses do fall
Don't slum alone
Don't slum alone
Don't slum alone, no
Great houses do fall
Don't slum alone
Don't slum alone
Don't slum alone, no

This song is a folk tale about a cat who got his paws caught in the cookie jar.

I thought it was "a gale picks up, a gale puts down" not "again picks up". A gale, as in a gale force wind.

And "to call it home" not "to come home". At least that's what I'm hearing

When I was in Louisiana last year I wet out on a fan boat through swamps, past gators and houses on the edge of the swamp only accessible by boar, confederate flags hanging all around. I really wished I had this song then as it would have been perfect.

Nice live performance of Great Houses but also a quick mention of a b-side album "coming out soon".

This is dated a year ago. LOL.

EDIT: Also another Great Houses performance with a mention of an EP of bluesy stuff to come out.

Since it's the last thing they did, and it's been out for a while now, wondering what everyone thinks of this song now?

Do you like it, still listen to it, have a new opinion?

I feel the same way I did when it came out. Nice song but the 2 Meter Sessions version, IMO, was so much better.
