I like what Van Halen has done with their reboot. Yes, I realize that is on an entirely different level and it is really a reunion and not a new lead singer. But Their website was a simple photo of the band. Then they issued a couple of cool youtube videos linked to their website that could have been shot in 2 hours to tease the new tour and album. Then they played a small show in Cafe Wha in New York. David Lee Roth, after 20 years, reached out to the number one fan site and message board to leak self-made cool and quirky videos. Everything went viral on youtube, facebook, twitter and message boards within a short, concentrated period of time. The Van Halen News Desk site and the Roth Army Site became ground zero for the viral attack. Van Halen has granted access to 90 second clips to the songs on the new album to the fabn sites and on youtube. Van Halen stayed perfectly quiet until this avalanch of information and promotion came out. DLR and Eddie did not let a peep leak. Then everything started happening fast.

It was perfectly orchestrated. It was very effective. The excitement spread fast and wide. (By the way, I am seeing VH in Philly in a month and I can't wait!!!)

The difference between the Van Halen tour and album and what Live is doing is like the difference between standing on the shore and experiencing a Tsunami 200 yards off the coast and someone throwing a rock in the middle of the ocean. By the time the Live "wave" gets to us, we may all be at home in bed.

I don't follow Van Halen but I don't see a difference at all. No one knew what Van Halen was up to for a very long time. It wasn't until right before the album release that any info was given. In fact, it seems like CT communicates regularly. Maybe that is the problem. He's getting everyone's expectations up when things are just not ready for public consumption. I just don't understand the beef with them. So the website isn't up. Maybe they jumped the gun a bit. Who cares.
