QUOTE(Bremang @ Dec 31 2011, 2:29 am) *

lol thats funny that you linked Monte's interview here. He's more infamously hated within the SP forum than Nick is over here.

I loved SP nearly as much as Live, any SP fan will tell you that Billy is completely full of shit, making excuses when it comes to anything new (at least he put out some nice reissues). I have no expectations for Oceania. He hasn't released an awesome song since Machina 2. SP3 is shit compared to SP1, and SP2 was even way better than SP3 cause Jimmy dominates Byrne and all the teargarden songs blow complete ass. Even though Shitgeist sucked, at least billy put on a show with jimmy. Now he can't even do that cause his bandmates are crap and the new songs sound horrible live. I pray that this doesn't happen to CCP. CCP's and SP3's situation are very different because Billy wrote all SP's songs and he's still there. SP3 = Ed solo.
Still I love talking about SP and Live in the same breath. For some reason, I have witnessed almost no material where either band recognizes the other, or where they were compared critically, despite being two legendary alt rock bands with bald lead singers selling millions of albums within the same year (integral.org was the exception, though they still didn't seem to cross paths there). However, I actually found this video from cerf.net the other day. Ed metions SP near the one minute mark - 97 interview:

Hey, where the hell is my response to this I posted early this morning? I sure hope that's a glitch in the site. It was there though, right after Wam's a few posts ago. Anyway, not about to retrace and retype two paragraphs of stuff. I expected some strong comments about SP and BC. Say what you will, I believe him when he talks about staying true to what SP was all about. You can debate how well they pull it off just like we'll se how well CCP pull off new Live. I think they will try to stay true to the original vision. We'll see.

Strange. It was there for a while. I even went back and edited a few times. No big deal.

QUOTE(Pokey @ Dec 31 2011, 7:42 am) *

There's a difference between being discontent but hopeful that they'll turn things around and find the magic again compared to saying "well no Ed, no Live, count me out!" ... and then not leaving.
Some people might be hopeful that new Live will win them over and maybe they will, maybe they won't. I can understand people not being totally sold on the idea but willing to give it a shot, why not!
But when it comes to dear Nicholas, he's even admitted he already doesn't like it no matter what it will sound like, he asked to be counted out and yet he remains and follows every step of the way to shit on it.
Big difference between that and the people who were growing discontent after 2001.

Well, that's a pretty particular set of standards you have to qualify griping about a band that isn't doing what you like. He's hoping for a reunion with Ed, and thinks their current downfall could possibly lead to it. Also, Live is Ed related, and this aftermath of the band doesn't make it easy for fans to move on. If he bothers you so much just block him.

I can't take BC seriously about anything given how much of a smug narcissist he is... but I have to take the guy's musical talents seriously. Both Siamese Dream and MCIS would be towering works for any band to produce. If a band is lucky they put out one album as big as either of those two albums and the Pumpkins put out two, back to back. If I could compare it to football it's like winning the Super Bowl in back to back seasons, the first one coming by a close score of 24-21 and the second is an ass whoppin' of 52-0 proportions.

And of course the next year they miss the playoffs entirely with Adore. They only make it back to the wildcard round after that with Machina. Machina II was them getting back to the conference championship but Corgan sustaining injury. Zwan was a failed comeback attempt with another team.

This new incarnation of the Pumpkins is Billy trying to continue on in the CFL (Canadian Football League)...

...ok, enough with the football analogy bullshit.

No. I was just comparing the Pumpkins earlier work to the later work using a stupid football analogy.

Don't know who Monte is and don't care. Also don't care to respond to someone that regularly makes excuses for why EK doesn't perform the way he used to but when it comes to BC he's just full of shit.

You oughtta know monte. You obviously care to respond to me since you keep responding. Your comparison of my analysis of Ed and BC makes no sense.

But in general, there are excuses for why Ed's not good anymore, and I always point out when Ed is full of shit. I don't say Billy is just full of shit for no reason. Billy is full of shit because he's saying his band is going to be good like it used to be, but his new songs are considered crappy by most of his fans.

Just imagine Ed sitting on Nick's couch for an interview, telling us that his next solo record and tour will get back to following the original vision for Live. Same scenario, except Monte is way more ridiculous than Nick, and Billy is more nutty than Ed. (btw Monte's cell phone goes off in the interview lol). Unless the original vision for SP was to suck ass, I think any fan would say Billy's full of it. Just look at the long history of borderline insane comments from billy. He's either a tremendous troll or really out of touch.

But anyway, I get it. You love Billy. You won't stand here and listen to any criticism of Billy. Sure, the good things he said in the interview, though bullshit for his own band, could be applied more accurately for CCP in terms of restarting Live. But we'll have to see. Its hard to imagine the original vision of Live getting off the ground without Ed in proper form. I wonder if they'd be better off with a unique new direction, with a new singer/songwriter making his mark.

You are completely, 100% nuts. I merely pointed out that I like BC's idea of the Pumpkins. I didn't say whether or not I think he's fulfilling that idea or not.

Bre, you did interpret this all wrong. No need to diatribe for 5 pages about how crazy Billy Corgan is.
