You may get a 50/50 split if lucky. Replacing a lead singer is rarely successful, especially when the lead singer is still out touring. Time will tell.

I like Billy Corgan's thoughts about the idea of The Smashing Pumpkins. Sort of like the idea of Live that was birthed so many years ago and staying true to that idea. I think this is what C,C,P want for Live. Anyway, pretty interesting stuff in this interview, particularly from 6:49 on. I've heard other interviews where he goes into more detail about the concept of The Smashing Pumpkins. Good stuff whether you like them/him or not.

lol thats funny that you linked Monte's interview here. He's more infamously hated within the SP forum than Nick is over here.

I loved SP nearly as much as Live, any SP fan will tell you that Billy is completely full of shit, making excuses when it comes to anything new (at least he put out some nice reissues). I have no expectations for Oceania. He hasn't released an awesome song since Machina 2. SP3 is shit compared to SP1, and SP2 was even way better than SP3 cause Jimmy dominates Byrne and all the teargarden songs blow complete ass. Even though Shitgeist sucked, at least billy put on a show with jimmy. Now he can't even do that cause his bandmates are crap and the new songs sound horrible live. I pray that this doesn't happen to CCP. CCP's and SP3's situation are very different because Billy wrote all SP's songs and he's still there. SP3 = Ed solo.

Still I love talking about SP and Live in the same breath. For some reason, I have witnessed almost no material where either band recognizes the other, or where they were compared critically, despite being two legendary alt rock bands with bald lead singers selling millions of albums within the same year (integral.org was the exception, though they still didn't seem to cross paths there). However, I actually found this video from cerf.net the other day. Ed metions SP near the one minute mark - 97 interview:

You guys remember the video of Ed, Fred and Paris Hilton together outside some club from the early 2000's. EK was wearing his cowboy hat.

Black Gives Way to Blue is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains, released in September 2009. The first Alice in Chains album in nearly fourteen years, Black Gives Way to Blue is their first release with new vocalist/guitarist William DuVall, who took over from the late Layne Staley. This is the first Alice in Chains album released on Virgin Records and their first venture away from Columbia, who handled all of their previous releases. The album has been certified gold by the RIAA on May 26, 2010, with shipments exceeding 500,000 copies and has sold 1 million copies worldwide.

And most of the people who are in the half of not liking the new directions will probably do what any sane and normal person would do, and just move on and find music that they do like, or follow Ed, rather than hanging around like a little bitch moaning and complaining and holding a grudge.

Wasn't something like this all that was posted pitchfork as the review for one of Jet's albums? (and a fair review at that!) Also sums up Alive pretty well too, a powerful and moving image!

There's a difference between being discontent but hopeful that they'll turn things around and find the magic again compared to saying "well no Ed, no Live, count me out!" ... and then not leaving.
Some people might be hopeful that new Live will win them over and maybe they will, maybe they won't. I can understand people not being totally sold on the idea but willing to give it a shot, why not!
But when it comes to dear Nicholas, he's even admitted he already doesn't like it no matter what it will sound like, he asked to be counted out and yet he remains and follows every step of the way to shit on it.
Big difference between that and the people who were growing discontent after 2001.

If Ed truly is "pissin' in the mainstream" and we all know just how mainstream Ed has become... then he's basically pissing in his own mouth.

Or in other words, he's a damn monkey.
