Know what solves the lyric problem with Ed and his new songs? Don't listen to them. That is what I have done and life instantly got better.

The music sucks too, but indeed, not listening at all solved the issue for me. Besides knowing that it did nothing for me, I can barely remember what Alive sounds like.
But I will always check out his new stuff, though I am not holding my breath for anything that I will enjoy.

I gave it one spin and that was enough for me.

I always thought that "like a child" related to the line BEFORE it, not the falling asleep at the wheel part, i.e.:

"Standing inside your love, like a child" and then "Falling asleep at the wheel of my life..." etc.

I guess its all a matter of interpretation. I still have no idea what it means but I'm ok with that.

like a child does complete the line before it.
pretty much the song is about letting God take over since he's doing a terrible job behind the wheel. we've discussed it somewhere.
anyway, it pales in comparison to Ed's early work. it's sad that this is the best he can do.

never thought about god when i heard this song. first thing that came to mind was that Ed was passing the torch to a new artist, probably like the co-writer Daughtry.

I think most of the album is pretty transparent and was clearly accepted into the Christian music world (I believe it peaked at #6 on the Christian charts).

Daughtry only co-wrote Drink, as far as the album liner notes are concerned.

It is, but that's not how he sung it. And if you read the reviews of the album right when it came out there were quiet a few comments that stated the same thing I did.

I never disliked the song, but the way he sings the rest of the refrain is inconsistent with that particular part. Listen to the pairings - all the rest are pairs of 2 lines and that was a 3rd line which naturally should be paired with the 4th, making it sound the way it does.

Regardless, you guys always pick out and harp on the negative. My main thought was

I accept that Ed is going to stay on his lyrical path so I'm not going to harp on the dead pan lyrics anymore

A friend of mine bought a copy of Alive for $9.99 on Amazon because of how much he used to like Live. He got through 3.75 tracks before he sold it on eBay to a high bid of $0.09.

According to Lancaster Online, a tour with Jars of Clay is in the works. Should be awesome!
