Agreed. I really don't get all the bitterness thrown their way. They're doing the best they know how with a screwed up situation. All these armchair quarterbacks throwing their two cents in about how it's not Live unless this or that. If it was my band I'd just say fuck off, go focus on your own life. Because that's what were talking about here, not just a band but peoples lives. I mean, what the fuck are they supposed to do? They catered to Ed's every wish to keep the band together until it wasn't enough. He has clearly stated that the break up of Live is solely due to his wanting to go solo. Plainly stated in interviews, right there for anyone to hear. So I don't get the problem with them trying to move forward in their lives.

When MOST people talk about how Live "should do this or that" they are really talking about what they actually want to listen to. It's kind of like when someone says "that sucks!" just because they don't particularly like something. I'm not sure why people tend to react that way, but that is just how it is especially on message boards.

You are absolutely correct that Live, Ed, etc. can do whatever they want and it's their decision, but the rest of us get to decide whether we want to listen. That's really the beauty of the whole thing. If the new singer is a dead ringer for Ed, I will choose to stream the new album on Spotify before I decide if it's worth a purchase. If it's Chris Shinn, get me a pre-order right this minute please! That's really all there is to it.

No one is any less a Live fan if they don't like this "decision" (or Ed playing Live songs for that matter!). They just want something different than what the band wants, it happens!

thought it was ed from the git go, but now all this speculation has made me question myself. Best case scenario: it is the new lead singer for live, coz that shit sounds fantastic!!! I may actually be proud to throw my friends the new cd and tell them look what my favourite band just put out!

Then he would be a magician... and I'd much prefer that he makes the songs his own than doing an Ed impression.

Have you listened to much of Chris' music? That really doesn't sound like him at all.

The discussion about someone else singing lyrics written by Ed is interesting.

Seems like most feel that it wouldn't be sincere and I have struggled with the idea of it.

But then I thought what if the new lead singer is like many of us are? If I am screaming my head off in my car it is because I feel, at some level, what Ed felt when he wrote some songs. I don't typically listen to music and sing along if I don't understand it and feel it.

Is there a chance that the new lead singer believes/feels/agrees with some of the older Live work and would that make it more "real" to see him sing?

If the guy is just bleeding passion on the stage would it matter in regards to them being lyrics from Ed?

That is what I meant in my previous post about Live having a new lead singer that can make some great new music and sound great, and also sing the old material in a way that sounds enough like Ed to please a crowd at a concert. That is what I meant with my analogy about how great it would have been in 1986 if Sammy Hagar could have sung Best of Both Worlds in Concert and then could have sung Jamie's Cry'in in a way that sounded a lot like the recording with David Lee Roth.

Patronize me for a moment. I have no information and I'm just taking a shot in the dark here. But what if that clip is Chris Shinn and he sounds spot on like Ed when he sings the old material, and he also works with the band to make some tremendous new music with his amazing voice in the spirit of Live. And what if new Live tours and plays this great new music and also pulls out some of the deeper tracks from the older albums. Stuff we haven't heard on a set list for more than 15 years. And they perform them in a way that sounds like you were seeing live perform in 1994? What if that happens? How would not be happy with that? Identify yourselves right now if you would sit that one out. I would be in.

You're saying 75% all concert tickets are bought by "the younger generation." What ages are that, and where do you get 75% from?

I saw all three bands this year (3EB, SP and Bush). There were two groups of people at each show: younger (under-30) and older (over-30). In my estimation, the younger group was 75% of the audience.

I made the comparison of the these groups to LIVE because they're all from the same era. If it was a Justin Bieber concert, the younger group would be even larger. If it was a Pink Floyd show, the older group would be larger.

The point I was making about my younger co-workers was that they all knew 3EB, SP and Bush. But, only one of them knew who LIVE was. So, based on my small poll, LIVE will have an even harder road to climb because they don't have the same name recognition as the other bands mentioned.

And, you keep mentioning that these bands are selling out only small venues, so it's not a big deal. SP opening night for new tour was in LA. 2300 seats x $75 average ticket price = $172,500. All 12 shows in North America sold out. Then at least 20 more shows in Europe and maybe 10 more in S America. That's more than $7 million.

Now, include all merchandising. My show had a usb available of that night's show for $40, and tons of people were buying those. And $30 t-shirts. Add it all up and you're probably looking at over $10 million dollars for less than six months of work.

I've listened to him enough to think that I hear similarities in his voice to how "scarred like that" is sung at the end of the clip. Could be wrong but sounds a little like CS to me. Who knows. Sure would be interesting if it turns out to be him, because you are right, this sounds nothing like all his other stuff.

You think they're pining away for ed to come back and cash in??? Get real. They don't need him to survive.

How do you know they don't need him? They haven't put out an album or toured without him yet. They might be a huge success or a massive failure, but we won't know until the music comes out.

Arizona, you've become one of the negative nellies here now. It's okay...you have good posts but all this wishy washy flip flopping...

I haven't flip flopped about anything. I believe that:

1. Live would be better with Ed, instead of some other dude singing Ed's lyrics.
2. Live's new music (without Ed) might be good or might blow. Won't know until I hear it.
3. Live is going to have a difficult time finding anyone to fill Ed's shoes

Just because I'm not drinking the CCP kool-aid, doesn't mean I'm "negative."

That is not Ed.

I think they posted it that way, with no information but the date, to generate discussion by counting on the fact that some fans would pick up on the difference.

I'm guessing they titled the video "November 14, 2011 3:39pm" because that is when they recorded it and then posted it.

If you can't tell just listen to this first and then go back to the facebook page:

I wasn't calling you specifically a flipper.

I was calling out that they don't need Live to survive....its a project near & dear to them. No constraints, no restrictions......just pure back to roots.

that's what sticks out to me. It's weird. It's also very weird to do things like this to confuse the shit out of your fans...

I am starting to think that Live chose the lead singer of Nickelback but right before they were going to tell us they saw the Detroit Lions talk and how we all hate Nickelback.

Now they are trying to get us to buy in to the new guy by posting a clip without a face. Once we say "I LOVE IT" they will say "Good! Because it is the lead singer of Nickelback."

And that is when I will walk into oncoming traffic.
